Okonomiaki with three eggs probably the most filling. Ax not keeping it too traditional by not accepting cash. Complete opposite from small shops in Japan lol.
Realistically any event that's big. Years ago I went to a Dodger's game and a 40oz beer was $18. The same beer is $6 at 7-11. It's been decades but I can't remember what pizza cost at E3 but I bought a giant slice up the street and took it in (I was working as a vendor) for a friend because it was more than half the price of what the convention center was charging.
I think by volume the yakisoba with 3 eggs is the most food. but yeah, i learned along time ago to never buy food directly at AX or the convention food court. Thats extra money that could be spent at AA for me!
To me, this only tells me that prices are ridiculous at AX for food compared to even my time 8 years back. Wow, and barely anyone at all accepts cash? That's insane! Genuinely, I don't feel any of that was worth the price. That is no offense to the places trying to earn a living, but wow.. I'm floored.
The hotdogs outside the convention center cooked on the carts by all of the nice hispanic people were better than anything I ate inside and 1/3rd the price. Bacon wrapped, grilled veggies, FIRE
The fact that cash isn’t accepted at most stalls is crazy to me. It’s already crazy expensive as is and I have money, I’m willing to buy your overpriced food but you don’t take cash? Ridiculous Been years since I was last at AX, if I ever go back I’ll just skip out on getting food on site and bring my own or go else where for lunch
Maybe I'm just too european for this but I don't like the US-tipping-culture. People should earn enough to not be dependant on other peoples gift. And nothing more is a tip if you break it down. Nice video though. It's sad to see that you can't get much out of 20$ these days. Did you plan something special for this as well? Like those devil-fruits or the fingers?
and I thought we have expensive prices in the heart of europe... even on expos the food is round 10 € and mostly you get enough to feel satisfied - and you don't have to tip them additionally and the taxes are included.
None of the meals were worth that amount of money. Maybe the Okonomiyaki because I would consider it to be an actual meal (A+ for protein), but that's something I'd pay 7-10 bucks for, not 20.
@@UltimateGamerCC then I won't be buying food there, simple as. To be fair I don't really eat out. Buying groceries is expensive enough and if bringing my own bento is required, then that is what I will do.
Same with tipping for me. i wouldn't of tipped. the food costs are way overboard. they just hand you food and demand a little extra. so it's weird for me, as i'm canadian.
Yeah, it was really annoying how they didn't accept cash. Though, I think it was better this way due to most money for con-goers (cash-wise) will be spent at artist alley. How was AX for you Paul? I've been getting feedback from others for volunteers to improve next AX. A volunteer lead of mine is getting promoted next year, so we could use any feedback to improve next year. Also, keep in mind we were UNDERSTAFFED this year severely and we were doing overtime to make the con as smooth as we could for everyone
Everyone one in the comments shocked at the prices have never been to a con or even a carnival or fair. Lol. Part of the cost of the food is the travel expenses.
These food trucks just jack up the prices to the most ridiculous levels and serve extremely subpar quality food. But as with most festival vendors, they don't care to improve on their food or try to provide actually competitive prices because the visitors have no other choice
A lot of the time, the event organizers set the minimum that a food vendor can charge, along with charging a portion of profits plus space rental, forcing them to inflate prices to turn even a small profit on the event. As an example, my friend that has a food cart vended at our county fair. He paid $3500 for the space for 4 days, was required to charge a minimum of $15 for any entree served, and owed 5% of all sales at the end of the fair.
Why would you tip when it's already overpriced, especially when you're doing a challenge? 🤔 You said to always tip your servers, but they weren't actually serving you like at a restaurant either. Also, the challenge was to get the most food for up to 20$, not to be the closest to 20$, no? The discussion in the video was a bit confusing. Also, Anime Expo should require their sellers to include tax in their prices to make it easier on everyone, even though that should be on the government to do, like in all other countries...
The thing to be said there is 19.71 before tip should be considered the average 'price' for food (no drink). Part of me hates to say it because it was definitely gaming the system (ensuring multiple tips to ensure perfect numbers) but Crim won.
Man it's stuff like this that had me packing food from home when I was working artist alley back in the early 2010s, there's no way I'd survive with these prices, no decent food for anything less than $20? No thanks, I never made enough to cover it!
If you tip someone who is already getting full-market pay for their time, then you have circumvented the idea of tipping. You tip waiters and waitresses because they receive pennies on the dollar in pay from their employers with the concept being that the tips they receive will make them come out equal with a minimum wage or slightly better. If you tip someone who just makes a flat 15-20 bucks an hour, you are just throwing extra money at them. Tipping your barista is not the same thing as tipping an actual service person doing their job.
Given how expensive these food carts are i do want to also ask how much do u think the expo is charging as like the normal merchandise vendors they'll be charged to rent a space
CHEFPK, JDOGX211 here. I just put up a video JUST FOR YOU! I'm a big fan of your channel and I would love to get a reaction from you on and about this video I did on the food in the video game, Horizon Forbidden West, I put out last week. Hope to hear back from you, PEACE!
10$ for onigiri?? You can make like 30 onigiri for 10$ lmfao wtf Chef won for most food per dollar and Crim came second for perfect price (even if he cheated lmao). This is par for the course with any public event though. The Ren Faire prices were just as bad lol
Crim definitely got more food than anyoe else or more varieties?. PK got the most filling food and Lydia had a good amount as well compared to the other two. Top 3 for me in that order
Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4. Grease and line two 20cm/8in sandwich tins. For the cake, place all of the cake ingredients, except the boiling water, into a large mixing bowl. Using a wooden spoon, or electric whisk, beat the mixture until smooth and well combined. Add the boiling water to the mixture, a little at a time, until smooth. (The cake mixture will now be very liquid.) Divide the cake batter between the sandwich tins and bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is firm to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to cool completely, still in their tins, before icing. For the chocolate icing, heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until smooth, glossy and thickened. Set aside to cool for 1-2 hours, or until thick enough to spread over the cake. To assemble the cake, run a round-bladed knife around the inside of the cake tins to loosen the cakes. Carefully remove the cakes from the tins. Spread a little chocolate icing over the top of one of the chocolate cakes, then carefully top with the other cake. Transfer the cake to a serving plate and ice the cake all over with the chocolate icing, using a palette knife.

not accepting cash has got to be one of the worst carryover things from covid... It says on the bills "legal tender"
Convention Center Event + Los Angeles = Overpriced street food
everything is overpriced, especially in Cali.
Realistically any event that's big. Years ago I went to a Dodger's game and a 40oz beer was $18. The same beer is $6 at 7-11. It's been decades but I can't remember what pizza cost at E3 but I bought a giant slice up the street and took it in (I was working as a vendor) for a friend because it was more than half the price of what the convention center was charging.
even at the largest anime event in Indonesia, the foodcourts would only charge like $5 for a paper bowl of ramen
I think by volume the yakisoba with 3 eggs is the most food.
but yeah, i learned along time ago to never buy food directly at AX or the convention food court. Thats extra money that could be spent at AA for me!
Most food, yes. Worth the price...? Hahaha, no.
To me, this only tells me that prices are ridiculous at AX for food compared to even my time 8 years back. Wow, and barely anyone at all accepts cash? That's insane! Genuinely, I don't feel any of that was worth the price. That is no offense to the places trying to earn a living, but wow.. I'm floored.
....if Crim is in this video, does that mean ChefPK will be a guest on a Commander Clash episode? I would be hyped for that.
Do a "training like: guts", but for 2 weeks (14 days) and in the end, you try swinging a 50 pound sword like he does or something
5:36 $10 for onigiri?! The onigiri vendor at my local farmer's market sells them for half that.
Wow that is so expensive. I'd probably say your meal the okonomiyaki was probably the most well spent for value.
The hotdogs outside the convention center cooked on the carts by all of the nice hispanic people were better than anything I ate inside and 1/3rd the price. Bacon wrapped, grilled veggies, FIRE
I agree, they are delicious. Just sometimes a gamble.
Clearly Crim won this contest :P
But ChefPK won my heart
Crim and Chefpk is the crossover I didn’t know I needed!
The fact that cash isn’t accepted at most stalls is crazy to me. It’s already crazy expensive as is and I have money, I’m willing to buy your overpriced food but you don’t take cash? Ridiculous
Been years since I was last at AX, if I ever go back I’ll just skip out on getting food on site and bring my own or go else where for lunch
watch them ban it, to create some weird-non compete thing?
The answer for "Which of these is worth $20" is none of them, CA+Con prices, all of it together might be worth $30?
As a socially anxious introvert, the expos/cons are near sleep paralysis fever dreams. TOO many people.
100% wasnt expecting the 0:01 Crim jumpscare. Lol
Lmfao
That’s a lot of cashless vendors o: Vendors usually prefer cash where I live.
damm the food price...shocking

I definitively don't pay much attention to stuff like this, but Chef PK is Paul??
Yep, P is for Paul haha
@@CHEFPKR And the K is for King
these prices are genuinely insane, you could probably make a lot of these for 2x/3x less the price dawg
gonna have to say "Proof or it's BS" on that. not in this inflation and DEFINITELY not in California.
and I thought we have expensive prices in the heart of europe...
even on expos the food is round 10 € and mostly you get enough to feel satisfied - and you don't have to tip them additionally and the taxes are included.
The fact that you even got 5 dishes is impressive. Winners are Chef and Crim.
None of the meals were worth that amount of money. Maybe the Okonomiyaki because I would consider it to be an actual meal (A+ for protein), but that's something I'd pay 7-10 bucks for, not 20.
wont even FIND any at $7-10 in California, let alone at a Con.
@@UltimateGamerCC then I won't be buying food there, simple as. To be fair I don't really eat out. Buying groceries is expensive enough and if bringing my own bento is required, then that is what I will do.
You walked by me a few times at AX! 😂 Was cosplaying per day. I hope you guys had a wonderful time! 🙏 ❤️
We gotta hang out next year!
This was one hell of gathering of people! Less gooo!
I actually bought an Okonomiyaki at AX and it's pretty filling without 2 extra eggs lol so I'd say Paul wins this one 👏
Why is it in America they don't post the prices that already includes taxes?
Honestly, id hate to not have a drink with my meal, the macha mochi donut, ice tea, strawberry mochi and the single egg combo is my winner ;P
Los Angeles plus AX = paying 3 times the normal price of con food
All of those prices are outrageously high. And to not accept cash is enough to make me never give any of them my business.
You know we want to see you and Crim at TCC? We want chaos :D
Tipping is such a weird thing for me because I live in Asia.
Same with tipping for me. i wouldn't of tipped. the food costs are way overboard. they just hand you food and demand a little extra. so it's weird for me, as i'm canadian.

other conventions should follow this example. an entire street dedicated to food. hallelujah
90% of the summary part of this video being people screaming "ALWAYS TIP!" is the most california thing ever

got book in, its great
They hike the prices up like crazy at events like this! A 12 oz bottle of water will cost you 6$ minimum!
2 bucks for an egg is kwazzyy 🤯🤯🤯
none of them were worth it. prices at cons are obscene!
Wow, all the con food was expensive. I would probably say the okonomiyaki was extra egg would be the most filliing.
Is there any way for someone outside North America to get the books?

24 dollars for yakisoba is criminal
Crazy
fire vid
I recall 10.25% sales tax in the golden state, a 0.5% increase a year and a half ago.
Its ironic that at an anime convention lots of business wont accept cash when Japan is a very heavily cash based society.
noIce

probably three figures, easy. but as we saw the stalls inside werent much better. $4 for a soda...
Not from LA, but I imagine everyone is cashless because of tax implications. It would be rather easy to dodge taxes taking cash.
