Masons and landscapers can still benefit from truck bed, but yea most other contractors not so much. But trucks are a part of our culture as well so there’s that.
Vans are great. Growing up in the US everyone made fun of vans and now everyone owns giant luxury trucks. But mini vans were far always more comfortable and economical. For a work vehicle it makes far more sense, can even get a work bench in there.
Others have said it, and i 100% agree. Once you get a van set up for the type of work you do you'll wonder how you ever worked out of a pickup. The fun part starts when you organize all the tools. I've had my work van for 10 years, and still get excited to tweak the organization.
I had a 2020 Sprinter extended height and extended length with the little 3L diesel engine. It was a great work van, but it was such a boat to drive around town when I just needed to get materials, it couldn't tow my trash trailer very well and ultimately van life wasn't for me. I currently run a single axle, 12ft V-nose trailer with double doors in the back towed with my F-150. It's more space and allows me to leave my tools on site and drive my truck home or to meet the family somewhere. The ability to make material runs without taking the tools away from my guys and have the same vehicle for work and personal life was just too appealing to me. Especially in Texas with the wide roads and big driveways, I would've loved to see you get a trailer and build it out. I'm curious to see how you get all you kit in the mid size van. Keep up the good work man and I hope you come back to light of driving a pickup truck!
Hi Richard congrats on the van, I'm from the UK and have a similar van. I found carpet on the floor is the single most helpful noise solution plus it helps with things not slipping around. Good luck
Very nice. I know that you like the side windows and all but it also makes it a lot easier for the crooks to see all the expensive tools that you have. Maybe get them darkly tinted. Great job and Congratulations!
Welcome to the club. You'll want a partition for safety. Look into Sortimo van shelving systems. None of the good systems are cheap, but they are much better than plywood. The issue with plywood is time in the build, not being modular for growth and the weight which will hurt your MPG. But there is some light weight ply available online, and I'm sure you would custom build something great. After purchasing my Transit, I wish I would have bought from a van outfitter and just financed the van, roof rack and shelving system all at once. Enjoy the new whip
Worked out of a van for 11 years as a courier. No windows on side but you get use to using the sideview mirrors with spot mittors options. Look into insulation to help with noise.
Up here in Canada we are switching from dog sleds to ski-dos to haul our tools. Pulling up to igloos with a new machine always impresses the customers. But know they think I’m charging too much!
I work as a Handyman and have a lot of tools to carry in my vehicle. I tried using a 4x4 pick up because it was good for rough roads and hauling trailers but I switched to a mini-van because it's easier access to the tools and more security. It works great.
@@jordan6254 I personally fit all my carpenter needs in a 6'4" truck bed. I'm just saying, you can increase the carry capacity very easily with a trailer. Meanwhile, the van always looks dorky. You'll also have issues in heavy snow/rain.
Who cares how it looks if it's way more efficient. You have way more potential and can't fit in tight areas. can still pull a trailer if necessary. A pickup is for ranchers or farmers not carpenters.
@@Kgsoloman-ou6wm you use the van to get better gas mileage and storage and mobility, i.e. get your work done more efficiently and less expensively, and then you have another more efficient than a truck car for the family-wife nights out

Nice van Add some sound deadening matts and a rubber floor pad to the interior and that'll help with noise. Also PVC Pipes work great for making holders for levels and brooms. Have fun with your van.
The biggest regret you are going to have is giving up all of that tool storage for Windows. The secondary mirrors are more than enough to cover your blind spots if adjusted right. Also, the pass-through dividers you will never use and you are better off with a flat wall there. That does not have the flange for the door insert. It took me some adjustment as well because I never relied on mirrors in personal cars. But the bottom mirror can be set up to see the lane next to you and the third lane without an issue.
I just bought bought a 2021 Ford Transit 2500 ( finish carpenter) . I put an 1” 1/8 th ply on the floor ! Quite as a church mouse now! Just make ply bays for your big saws and your pack out drawers ! Hey Richard Wish I had known you were looking at Sprinters. I have had them for over 20years and only had cargo vans without windows. Yours with windows is a theft waiting to happen I’m sorry to say. You can also look online for the cargo van alum strips they use for tie downs. Need only the rings and ratchets - we use them to secure stacks of packout cases. I know you like the windows, but well adjusted mirrors and spots do well for side of vehicle monitoring. The cargo partition and metal sides would give you the rolling workshop you’re looking for. All the best to you. Tony
You'll like your new ride. You can simply organize it as you need and also could use the side door or doors as a quick-to-get-to two-sided shelving system from the outside. Oh, it's never happened, but it can. Sprinter vans are very enticing.

Up here it's still both van and truck. The ones with vans, you don't see them on site after a blizzard. It usually takes them a couple days to trickle back to site. Hey Richard if you don't want to wear a belt anymore on site, look at akribis leather for their pocket protector. One piece holds your tape, and 2 pencils or a knife and pencil. I know I'm going to get 2 of them for when I'm a cutter and not an installer on site so I can have my tape, knife and 2 pencils on hand with the other tape slot to hold my impact or hold a kunys hook for my nailers.

Congratulations! Separate observation- your neighborhood is so nice. All the best! Many productive miles/jobs ahead!
Fancy Richard hope it brings that efficiency to the job site and to the video posting, Thanks for sharing keep up the great work.
Don't know if you carry step ladders but if you do make false floor and you can slide latter under them. If you put plywood on walls so you can attach things to the walls, paint them first and sand edges.
