    Since many people are asking how you should install dots, here are a few tips I can give:
    - If you are using hard pads, I'd recommend going for one skate per corner (and if possible, maybe an additional one at the bottom centre)
    - If you are using cloth pads, I'd recommend starting at one skate per outside corner. If you dig in too much (or even scrape), install an additional dot per corner
    The way you install dot skates is very much a subjective topic and completely depends on much pressure you put into the pad when tracking.
    More pressure + less skate surface area = more scraping

    10/10 video, exactly what i was looking for!
    I recently picked up a skypad and was wondering what replacement feet to buy. I'm probably gonna go with the red ultraglides/x-raypad dots. I saw the red dots before but was sceptical. I kinda thought all colored skates sucked becuase stock skates that suck are always colored. But its nice to hear that this is not the case.
    The Gulong dots sound good too though, they are just 0.44€ with free shipping because of the welcome deal.

      Thank you so much! I'm glad the video was of help to you. I, too, was sceptical about the Obsidian dots, but they truly are some of the very best for glass pads out there.

    Hey buddy! I thought i had sensor issues with my RVM, when i wanted to do 180 or flick a bit it does not register movement, kinda lags, but after whole day i found problem, mouse feets, i added some cardboard from a cigarette box and taped it on existing feet and now it does not 'lag'. Would 0.7mm feet be enough since rvm has high lod? Should i put them on already existing mouse skates maybe? I am gonna get 'gulong' ones just to try it out

    Great video again!
    I've recently been trying some dot skates myself, I picked up ghostglides and xray obsidian and jade after seeing you post about them. Any idea why on xrays website they say not to use Jade on glass? Do they just wear down quickly or something?
    Also is attaching them just personal preference? I just put one in each corner of my starlight but I've seen some people put them on really wide so the dots are basically right at the edge of the mouse.

    • @Miketacticz
      @Miketacticz 11 місяців тому +1

      Glass ranks around 5.5 to 7 Mohs, jadeite and nephrite come in at 6.5-7 and 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Maybe it’s not recommended because it could scratch the glass pad depending on the hardness it is

    • @Inconsistense
      @Inconsistense 11 місяців тому +2

      @@Miketacticz The jade dots are just PTFE skates, it is just a marketing name I imagine. Still, kind of interesting information all the same!

    • @jakeufps
      @jakeufps  11 місяців тому +3

      I think it's mostly marketing, since their Obsidian skates are optimized for use on glass pads.
      Attaching is mostly personal preference, but for glass pads, I'd always recommend simply going for one skate per corner.
      On Cloth pads, I'd recommend starting with one dot per outer corner, and if you find it digging into the pad too much (or even scraping), you can add one more dot per corner.
      I personally always install 2 dots per corner for cloth pads, since I still find myself pressing into the pad too much sometimes.
      I will make a pinned commend for this topic since many are asking, should have included that in the video as well.

I have an artisan raiden that's slowed down over the years so I need the speed back and didn't want to buy another pair of tiger ice, I hope the jade speeds in non dot form are the same. edit: I don't see or feel the need to buy dot's if your mouse has skates that are perfectly made to fit. (Mousepad)Vaxee PA is nice, more on the control side its around 40 euros (depends where you live) you also have the lgg saturn (control) or lgg venus (faster) they both have a "regular" version and a "pro" version that is a bit more premium, those are all around 40~45 bucks and they're really good, for mice on the budget side you have the VGN dragonfly f1 (comes with a "pro" and "moba" version with moba being the best) at around 40~45 bucks I believe, then the darmoshark m3 and m3s at around 40 to 50 euros, for a bit more premium experience you have the pulsar x2 and x2 mini (around 100 to 120 depending if you get the v2 or not) you have endgame gear too they have the xm2we and op1we for 80 and 85 euros (europe at least) and you obviously have lamzu with the atlantis, atlantis mini, maya, thorn
      All pretty good and they're around 100 to 120 bucks usually, then for mouse skates you can try the corepads pro for some slightly thicker and more control experience, you have the tiger ice v2 for a stupid fast glide (in my opinion too fast) then all the ones mentioned in the video.

    X-Raypad, Ultraglide, Ghost skates and so on just all rebranded oem products. The only good thing about theese, when you buy theese you always gets the same products. When you buy an unbranded dots skates from Ali with some pictures (sometimes mixed pictures from 2-3 different products) you not always gets the same skates, sometimes the thickness is different, sometimes the material, it is a bit of gambling. But if you think about that you can get 6-8x of the quantity for the same price. So if you order similar looking or the same (by pictures) skatest from 6 different seller it is a nice gambling as you have a chance to get something new or better but you will probably get the same good quality skatest at least 2 or 3x of the 6 :D . So I wouldn't spend a penny for these rebranded expensive items, because you actually just pay the lot extra for the nice packing... (Unfortunately I did it 1-2x already so I learnt my lesson, so I just try to help the others who hasn't already made this mistake.)

    Anybody try corepad dot skates

  • @MageLordZephyr
    @MageLordZephyr 11 місяців тому +3

    Just my experience: the aliexpress dots I purchased back in Feb 2023 were thicker than the alidots I received now in July and were perfect for my use. Not sure if it's QC inconsistency or I received the wrong batch originally.
    The new aliexpress dots are too thin and don't feel as good with mice that have indentations for mouse feet (GPX, VGN, Lamzu, etc.). They sit almost too flush with the mouse bottom. Because the new dots are too low, at 1mm LOD I can move the mouse without touching the surface. I prefer lifting the mouse without causing movement.

      @MageLordZephyr 11 місяців тому +1

      Note that the quality of the dot skates are still fine, it's really the thickness that I'm having issues with. Stacking the alidots works but may vary from mouse to mouse. Also less ideal since you'll need to use twice the amount of dots to achieve the same level of depth.

      From slowest to fastest:
      1. Tiger Ice V2 (personally can't recommend them, since they scratch more than all others here)
      2. Ghostglides
      3. Obsidian
      4. Jade

      The more you add the harder it gets to strafe. I asked chat gpt basically comparing skates that cover a large area vs dots. Although some mechanical engineer would provide an accurate result, it seems that with dots is easier to strafe using wrist but is harder to move left right based on what it said:
      Mouse A with 2 small skates on the front sides vs full surface:
      With smaller skates located on the front sides of the mouse, the contact area with the surface is limited.
      The smaller contact area means higher pressure exerted on the surface for the same force applied. According to the laws of friction, this could result in higher frictional forces.
      However, the limited contact area may also mean that it's easier to initiate and maintain lateral movement (strafing) because there's less resistance against the lateral motion.
      Mouse B with a skate that covers all front area:
      With a larger skate covering the entire front area, the contact area with the surface is greater.
      The larger contact area distributes the pressure more evenly, resulting in lower pressure exerted on the surface for the same force applied.
      This may reduce frictional forces compared to Mouse A.
      However, the larger contact area might make it slightly more difficult to initiate and maintain lateral movement (strafing) because there's more surface area in contact with the surface, which could increase resistance against lateral motion.
      Considering these factors, Mouse A with 2 small skates on the front sides might result in more effective strafing with the same energy spent. The limited contact area could make it easier to initiate and maintain lateral movement, despite potentially higher frictional forces due to the smaller contact area. However, the actual effectiveness would also depend on other factors such as the specific design and materials used for the mouse skates, the surface properties, and individual user preferences and techniques.
