Really liked the look of the mechanic. Seemed cool like Raiders. Glad to see it came out looking okay.
I love the little bits that are there from his other games, like kinda needing particular craftsman from Shipwrights, etc, brilliant, can't wait to get it.
With the mass of worker meeples that can be placed where others are to collect resources, it sounds like it has a touch of classic RTS feel to it.
The Thief doesn't make you lose virtue instantly. The Thief makes you lose less virtue when robbing the Tax Stand.

I believe the Kickstarter came with 5 free Promos, don't quote me on that though.
Kickstarter comes with promos of 3 extra building cards, 3 extra apprentices, 3 new crew cards for Raiders, 5 additional player boards (with extra variable player powers), and walls for the tax stand. All of these you can also buy afterwards anyway. Also kickstarter got discounted metal coins. So nothing exclusive, but several optional extras that others would have to pay for.
Yeah but, it's not like there are exclusives components, like whole expansions. Promos can usually be aquired.

Tom, you're really good at explaining board games! Maybe you should do the rules for all the games!
How does it play with two players?
During the kickstarter campaign Shem and Sam did a live stream. They played 2 games of 2 player in 40 minutes. Two player is really tense as you are more able to keep track of what the other person is doing. You can also add the bot to make it a 3 player game. In my opinion this game plays well at all player counts, although I prefer more because it is more social and interactive the more people there are. Even at 4 or 5 it is quick (as long as there are no analysis paralysis players). Be aware the first play can be long... but once people know how to play it will rarely go more than an hour.
Looks a lot like Pillars of the Earth. Is it?

Hard not to be sold by this review! Especially if you’ve played Raiders.
I generally also love variable player powers. I'd put forth Stockpile as a rare game where I don't think player powers improve the game. Stockpile is otherwise a great game, but I think the optional player powers detract from the experience.
So much enthusiasm... lol

Certainly looks like a cool game, but I was wondering if it really is considered a worker placement game. Some of the more conservative people would say that blocking each other off of certain spots is a defining criteria for worker placement, making this more of an action selection type thing. Granted you do actually place workers on the board, but I don't think anyone bought into Sam saying Scythe was a worker placement game either even though there are workers that you place on a board ^^
Sam and Shem the game designers have been using the term "Worker Investment" as a more precise explanation of the game mechanism.
I was disappointed with base raiders so I'm glad to hear see say this is superior.

There is 1 game where I do NOT like player powers, and that is Ca$h n Guns 2nd ed.
Out of curiosity Tom mentioned in the overview that the game has a solo mode with a special deck. I was wondering how that worked and what they thought of it (if anybody tried it)

Am I the only one that can't stand this style of character artwork? When Gabe from penny arcade started drawing his characters like this years ago I had to quit going to that site I disliked it so much. All the characters look like alcoholics or they have a severe cold.

You aren't the only one. I'm happy for those who like it, but for me it's a huge deterrent in buying a game.
Mikos artwork is being extremely overused since the Valeria games. All games look like the same game.
