- The New Orleans Pelicans still don't have a starting center but there are plenty of other names to be had in a Brandon Ingram trade. Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr from the Houston Rockets are good, young trade targets. Or the Pels could get Nikola Vucevic from the Chicago Bulls. I would hate to trade Brandon Ingram for huerter, Vuc, and 1-1st.
Vuc = Val and green wouldn’t play him. We let a guy walk, then we talk about trading for guys that are equal or worse. I don’t get that.
If BI’s trade value is that diminished I would just keep him and let him walk after next year.

Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr are not going anywhere. Both are two young players featured in the starting lineup of the Rockets, and are part of the group of young exciting players the Rockets are building their team around.

Am I the only one that wishes Ingram would stay and sign a shorter deal. Something like with Donovan Mitchell did. All the trades you are mentioning will not make PELS better!! I know he had a bad playoff series but less not forget he was coming off injury!! Also remember what he did in playoffs 2 seasons ago against Phoenix!!
Yhe problem is the salary situation. If he would come back at 3 year 95mil think we would and trade CJ for a center. It's the 208 over 4 that we are worried about.

I know this is a hot take. And believe me, I come from a place of being nerdy about salary cap stuff. But honestly, the Pelicans should not be prioritizing Trey Murphy over Brandon Ingram for the longterm. The Pelicans will make the playoffs with more regularity if they have 2 of 3 healthy at all times between Dejounte B.I. and Zion. You need 2 of those 3 year round. That’s a core, with Herb Jones, that will allow ownership to see what this fan base can grow into. We need to be a consistent playoff team. The 3 and D skill set Murphy brings is far more replaceable from the draft (Knect went 17, Murphy went 17), than what Ingram brings. And Murphy will be extremely expensive to retain next offseason. Murphy has never handled starters minutes for a full season, and has already torn his meniscus once. They are treating him like he’s a young Klay Thompson. It’s obscene. 13:47

But Trey Murphy, if he blossoms this year, next offseason, is going to get offered a massive amount of money. Upwards of 34 mil a year. (See what happened to Allen Crabbe and Otto Porter years ago, teams will make the Pels pay a massive amount for Trey) The Pels think it makes sense to keep the pieces that give them one lineup with a great net rating. But the truth is, you need enough guys you can play through to even make the playoffs in a vaunted western conference. And you can get another 3 and D guy to play instead of Trey, and that lineup will do great.

My issue with Vooch is that if you really let go of JV because of rim protection and spacing issues being a priority for the next 5 man, he doesn't help either of those.
He's not a plus defender by any means, and although he's averaged over 4 3pt attempts per game while in Chicago, he also only last hit over 34% of those shots in a season 4 seasons ago.
He just gives you another JV, with a little more playmaking chops and the illusion of outside shooting volume, which is not what it's needed.
Guy is a clickbait clown. Vucevic is one of the worst assets in the league, and sengun would cost as much as Lauri.

The Pelicans defensive ranking will drop significantly even with Murray. A successful defensive possession doesn't end when the opponent misses a shot, but when your team secured the ball. Who do you visualize grabbing defensive rebounds now?
We need to stop trying to target small centers. If the center isn't 6'11 and weighs a minimum of 250, we dont need him. Th Western conference have too many 7ft 270lb centers. We have contending team. Options, Ayton, Lopez,

Im a Rockets fan, and a lot of us wanted Ingram. He moves the needle for us as an experienced Scorer but the Rockets love Sengun whom the Pels asked for.
Sengun is a solid post-player and doesnt fit the personnel we have. We need mobile, defensive big that can shoot. Sengun cant shoot.
But hes a wizard on passing w/ a strong post-presence. He will demand the offense to be built around him. Thats why he dorsnt fit with the Rockets.
But amyway...we heard the Rockets turned down Ingram because he's injury-prone and the most he played since his rookie season is 62 games.
Thats whats scaring teams away from trading for him. And he's due a max contract now and can only give you 62 games or less a season.
Thats why the Pels want to get rid of him UNLESS he take a smaller max pay which I dont think he'd do.

No to Vucevic.. Sengun is probably is an unrealistic scenario. Missi is a raw talent that has potential but we'll see. The Kings doesn't make sense to trade with. Just get another defensive cheap big and let's see how we look by the trade deadline.
It could be if only Alperen Sengun, or even Jabari Smith Jr., Jalen Green was available. Houston has given no indication that they want to rid themselves of any of those guys. Bulls have handcuffed Vucevic for awhile now I doubt he goes anywhere either.

So the Pels went into the draft knowing they don't have a starting Center on the books, yet they draft an inexperienced Center that needs development. And that's with DaRon Holmes and Filipowski both on the board as more ready players, both with stretch capability. Baffling.
