If you want to succeed as an undergraduate student in geology, you'll want to check out these tips. They will set you up to have great success down the road.
I’m 2 years into my geology degree and I just looked up geology salaries😂 I was just doing it cuz I love rocks and minerals lmao. But anyway stumbled across this video
Any tips for someone transferring to a university from a community college? I want to get involved in research and stand out but I'm afraid that everyone will be close knit and and be better qualified than me
I wouldn't worry about that at all. Having taught at both a University and Community College setting I can tell you that the level of education you get is more dependent on the student than the institution. You may not have ad as many opportunities to work one on one with professors, but as soon as you get into that university setting, just start making yourself known, sit in the front, do your classwork, visit office hours of professors consistently, and always be asking for research opportunities that align with your goals. You'll do great! Easy to have imposter syndrome, but trust me, it really depends on you more than the school you come from.
Speak to all the professors in the geology department and let them know you want to take part in some research. You can also talk to the graduate students and let them know, a lot of times they need help in the field and that can lead you to some good things.
Sigh. Why does college just feel like one big corporate ass kissing session? I hate that I have to kiss ass to all my professors and college classmates. I just want to learn what I came here to learn and get a good opportunity out of pure merit than fake-smiling to everyone and making "friends" with people I most likely will not truly care about at the end of the day. I hate the way our society works.
So much good knowledge
Thank you!!
