God I’m so fucking lost in life :( I just have no idea what I’m doing and I feel like every choice is the wrong one and I can’t help but think that even if I make the “right” choice, it’ll go wrong

Some advice I like, “Major in something practical, minor in something you love.” - no clue. If you can find something you love, and you can make a living of it, then that is awesome, but whatever pays your bills is more important (to most people). You can always make time for what you are truly passionate when you make enough money working manageable hours.

My mother did not like the rough language on the rig. Her second day, she asked the driller to come to her geologists stand on the rig. She had a dozen fresh, warm, cookies in her shack. She offered to bring enough cookies for the rig crew, and some to take home, if they would stop taking the Lord's name in vain and speak like respectable men. The driller talked to the crew, and from that day on, her well had no profanity, except for one day when a new crew member cursed in her hearing. The next day, no cookies. He got harassed by the crew for messing up their cookies. Never again was the crew denied cookies.

Laurentian University in Sudbury is a huge geology university, the Geology Professor there is actually Italian too I think so if you care about that, that’s good. But for Petroleum Geology you’d wanna be in Alberta in either University of Alberta or University of Calgary. U of A would take priority but both are good with excellent reputation.
I was starting to go for a General BSc with the hope of having a specialization in geology at the University of Alberta. I've since put that on an indefinite hold, but I'm very much interested in NAIT's two year geology technician program (specifically for environmental geology and hydrogeology)

Hello, I am a Geoscience Engineer, I worked for many years in oil service industries such as Baker hughes etc. (Mudlogging companies), "very badly paid in Venezuela", always by contracts. It's very difficult to qualify for a major oil company that is worth working as a Schumberger. Now because of the crisis in Venezuela, I find myself unemployed in Colombia. It has been extremely difficult for me to have a job stability in the area of Geology.
Love the video. I’m graduating next year and was wondering: did you start your degree with the idea that you specifically wanted to become a petroleum geologist? Or did you kind of go into it with an open mind and that was the one that stood out to you?
I prospect for gold, so hard-rock has been my main stream, prospecting for gold is not sitting in front of your computer, you are out in the field and walking many miles collecting samples and metal detecting. No college studies, my degree was in architecture, but have taken severe classes on mineral identification, best wishes on your travels and specially in company growth and yes pay your taxes......
I love geology and have much respect for those who study and share it. It might be a better pursuit at your age and capacity to leave the petrol field in favor of more sustainable and less damaging technologies. Petrol is necessary at this point but think ahead to 30 years from now, will you be more satisfied if you used your talents as part of the solution, and leave your grandchildren in awe of your potential and contribution? You do mention a side project, good luck with that :D
The only decent paying geo jobs are in oil and gas (extremely long hours and horrible conditions) outside of that in the U.S. opportunities are gov't jobs (highly competitive) or environmental (extremely low pay). My advice for those in college would be to change majors to some sort of engineering or computer science and thank me later.
Hi! I have been considering about taking geology courses and a geology career. I am currently still in high schools and i am an outdoor person and would love to have a job that required me going to mountainous terrain, plains, plateau and any other geological sites. I am currently wandering which stream is best for me and i am hoping to be able to learn more about said streams. As still being in high school my school doesn’t really have geology as part of the academics and so i am unsure on what most geology jobs actually do. So my question is when will i start to learn about the different path to geology? Will this be introduced to me in University or grad school perhaps? Or is this my part in finding out myself? And if it is possible do you have any suggestions on which stream of geology i should consider checking? As i mentioned i love field work or any type of work that involves me going outdoors and traveling to a multitude of places, i also enjoy space and those types of study so i definitely have my eyes on planetary geology. I am also interested on terrain formation such as mountains and how they came to be as well as studying mineral samples and that kind of stuff. Thanks in advance!
Hey, when I first started college It was implied I would do some type of engineering and come to find out my first day of school I hated it. The week before school I visited a salt mine and loved it. I decided I would do mining engineering but my school didn’t offer it and the nearest school required a bachelors of applied science to even apply. I figured geology would compliment it well but I really never was interested in geology from a studying standpoint. I’m on my last year and I will be getting my double major in geology and geophysics. I’ve grown to love geology! Like you said if you truly love the outdoors and love adventure and processes involving the earth, geology is for you. Every class I’ve taken has had a field trip not to mention a summer field class! Geology is a great science to learn and so is geophysics. If your not very strong in math geophysics is by far much harder as you need calculus 1,2,3 and differential equations where as geology only needs 1 and 2 as well as lower level physics compared to geophysics. I’m not the strongest in math but I’ve managed to make it through the math. If you love geology then I’d go for it!
I’m just looking for options in my future I love geography and so I started considering geology it still interests me so much but I feel like I’m not good enough my science knowledge in chemistry and physics are terrible biology is decent and my geography knowledge is great
I’ve chosen Geology as my degree in my community college, I’ve been interested in working in the field and this seems to be it, but I have a question where can I find an internship or somewhere I can start getting some experience so my resume looks presentable? Any advice would help, thanks in advanced :) Loved the video 👍 I’m from Southern California LA

Hi Lexi, thank you for commenting. I will put it on my list of videos to make. Depending on where you are geographically that might affect the choice as well. Hi! Thank you for this video... it's good to hear all these answers! But I wonder: Aren't you as a petroleum geologist in a huge ethical conflict with yourself because burning fossil fuels is such a huge driver for climate change and we, as humans, should actually have stopped extracting it and burning it yesterday already - and invest in renewable energy instead? From an environmentalist perspective, isn't petroleum exploration so very "outdated"? I am interested in geology and I am considering doing a degree, but I am wondering... that would be a deal breaker for me... I want to protect the planet instead of making things worse... the drilling has to stop for urgent environmental reasons and I don't want to be one of the guys doing it just because my employer tells me to...
I'm currently a junior working toward a degree in Comp. Sci. but fell in love with geology. I'm seriously considering changing my degree but suffice to say, I'm scared.
@Samuel Robertson Working on my MS/PhD for CSSE. I'm doing some interesting research concerning indirect additive manufacturing cybersecurity. Looking back at my old comment I realize I was in a state of depression. At the time, I held myself to absurd standards of absolute mastery. Not meeting those standards caused me to feel inadequate and undeserving. Falling in love with geology was just a lie I tried convincing myself to justify quitting.

hi Shy Lama! i am really interested in your videos and i'd literally like you to make a video including how petroleum geologists find oil or even how the life can be as a geologist in general .. i am an undergraduate student in geology and i ll have a degree soon! so i try to find what geology job would suit me . thank you :)
Hey Purple SnowOwl, I have answered your question in my Q&A video, when you have a minute check it out. Also, thank you for your comment!
I think i am apt for this course......now i have completed my school now looking for degree.....i think geology will suit me. Thankyou for the informative video✨
I was on the fence i live in Ontario planetary geology is what I'm passionate about, this helped alot thank you!
Gonna shift to geol next year due to personal choices and interests; this video motivated me even more to pursue the career!
hello , this year im going to university and chosed geology i really love it i like your video keep doing this 😍
Hello! 👋🏻 I really want to thank you so much for this amazing explanation and sharing your personal experience in this video. I’m a fellow geologist from Mauritania, Africa🇲🇷. Although I cannot say that I’m there yet but, I’m going to graduate this year so it won’t be too late till I’m one of this great community.
I’m clouded about masters programs if you have some idea that can help!!?
Thinking of a career in geology. Spoke to a guy who was on a bus, who is a geologist for BHP. I love hiking and being outdoors. Anything better than bus driving lol
Thank you Shy. This was very insightful.
💕This Video helped me to choose what career I've been taking.... Im going to be a geologists 💗💗
I love your videos and addicted your informative channel .
Keep go in most pretty geologist for ever
Assalam o Alikum. hello I’m Student Of Geologist 😍.
Wa alaikumussalam bro i need some details about geology please help me
Va alikumussalam
Iam also a geology student (degree).
Its a very interesting subject.
Walamikumassalamandra I love big hard rocks!
Great vid!
Cheers from the Dead Sea,
a fellow Geologist
Thank you! Love the Dead Sea, hope to come back and visit the area again sometime in the near future!
Hi! I'm an italian geology student and I wanted to ask you a question...for someone that want to do a Master in Canada, which Unibersity do you suggest?
In any case, I love your content ;)
University of Regina...
Geologist liked trilobite rock and mineralogical ,oil&gas hydrology ,geophisics ,geochimistry ,engenering geology.
Fantastic ...
Thank you so much
This fascinated me a lot
Me too studying geology...
I am from India and I love watching your videos because I want to become a geologist myself
Hii shy Lama just waiting of your videos..... And it came always nice shy Lama and congratulations for 6.5k subscribers 🎊🎊
People are loving your channels...
Keep it up plz make more videos because they're really motivational....
Thank you so much Yusuf!!! Comments like yours motivate me to do more videos :)
Hi lama.....
We are waiting for ur next video....
Just say some new about geology or ur experience.....
Or if possible do a vlog at fieldwork....☺️☺️☺️
You inspired me a lot
Amazing videos
Thanks for all
Whooaaa I just stumbled upon your video while looking up different career options and oh my gosh I feel like you're describing something that is MADE for me. I never knew Geology might be an option for me. Random question, do you meet many other girls in the field (lol)?? Seriously going to look more into this field!!
I love this video. i am a graduating geology student nw. very helpful but i hope u can make a videos wat u were using applications and etc. as being a geologist. love yaaahh..
To put it simply, or over simply, if it has to do with the earth, it is geology.
this was great, thanks :)
It has been extremely difficult for me to have a job stability in the area of Geology.
please do more videos and educate people concerning geology
I used to hate math too, but crazy with geology. And now as an engineering student I almost die :(
I really find myself studying rocks and its environment..
thanks
you help me a lot
and clear my major doubt
really thankful
I can fully relate to this. I am going to sudy geology at Birmingham Uni!
Love the video. I’m graduating next year and was wondering: did you start your degree with the idea that you specifically wanted to become a petroleum geologist? Or did you kind of go into it with an open mind and that was the one that stood out to you?
Yes talk about it !!! software and other diferents tools
Thank you for your feedback, I am making lots of videos related to geology. I am so excited that so many people are interested in the topic :)
Hi MannyScoots, Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Yes! Gold yes! (In reality, "black gold" : )
Great information well explained. Thanx
your video really inspire me a lot .
what is the difference with geography and geology ? I am lost
I’m just looking for options in my future I love geography and so I started considering geology it still interests me so much but I feel like I’m not good enough my science knowledge in chemistry and physics are terrible biology is decent and my geography knowledge is great
Its good to motivate us as a geologist...
Hey, If you can make a video on future scope, present core and particular field for Geology that would be very helpful to clear out some doubts.
I’ve chosen Geology as my degree in my community college, I’ve been interested in working in the field and this seems to be it, but I have a question where can I find an internship or somewhere I can start getting some experience so my resume looks presentable?
Any advice would help, thanks in advanced :) Loved the video 👍
I’m from Southern California LA
That was informative ❤️💥🌻🌻
Thank you for your ideas iam geologist from somalia special mining.
Awesome video! :)
Hi, i m 37 year lady, m. Sc in geology but still i have no job,can u help?
I'm a Wellsite Geo in Midland, Funny you mentioned it. Were you working in the area at one point as well? Just started in April and working 90-100+ hours a week is getting old
I love this one 💓💓💓
could you do a video on the different fields within geology? I'm not too interested in petroleum but if that's the best area to go into then I'll consider it. But what about things like hydrology or others?
ooo u just mentioned environmental geology and that sounds interesting... I'm interested in working with decreasing pollution, would environmental geology be better with that? or is working with pollution not really a geology thing
Hi Lexi, thank you for commenting. I will put it on my list of videos to make. Depending on where you are geographically that might affect the choice as well. In my area for example there is a great demand for environmental geologists. In my opinion environmental geology is a great stream to go into, more and more companies hire environmental scientists.
I am a history major right now. I’m in my junior year & I’m thinking about moving into the sciences, such a geology. One of my concerns is my income after graduation. Are there opportunities to make a solid amount of money?
hey shy lama i'm also a geologist but the problem is that i think geology jobs are limited and it is not enterpreneurable you cant start it with minimum wage i really need help in this career choice cause its freaking me out and i think i'm gonna back out soon
I want to work as a petroleum or mining geologist but my school doesn't have it so I'm doing the geophysical route instead
And I loved your video, I thought if you just speak it might be boring but it wasn't boring at all. I love Geography. I have Maths, Geography, Economics among other subjects, can I do a geology course?
I really want to do it, really
Hey Shy Lama, I'm currently in my 2nd year geology degree. Can you suggest me some interesting topics for me to do for my FYP? My stream is focusing in Oil & Gas but I'm actually quite interested in geophysics.
does it have work even though you did not passed the board exam?
Hello Shy it is my first time to be on your channel it seems like you are the very person who can guide me to my favorite Geology in mining. I'm also in AB I've been passionate about Geology since my high school years but never had an opportunity to go for it due to life circumstances. Its been years now thinking about change of career but again I'm not sure if a 2yrs offered at Nait worth it or just have to go for a 4yrs Bachelors UAB? Im currently a HET in one of the coal mines in AB.
Oh dear. Sounds as if you have been brainwashed.
I’m very interested in like rock and plant and volcanic geology if that’s a thing
Great video! thx
definitely intersted in finding oil & gas via geology
Great video mam..#GeoEntire
I'm currently a junior working toward a degree in Comp. Sci. but fell in love with geology. I'm seriously considering changing my degree but suffice to say, I'm scared.
I’m LITERALLY in your same position right now bro
@Samuel Robertson Working on my MS/PhD for CSSE. I'm doing some interesting research concerning indirect additive manufacturing cybersecurity. Looking back at my old comment I realize I was in a state of depression. At the time, I held myself to absurd standards of absolute mastery. Not meeting those standards caused me to feel inadequate and undeserving. Falling in love with geology was just a lie I tried convincing myself to justify quitting.
I want to be a geologist, but I don’t want to be digging up the Earth to extract oil/petroleum. I’d like to travel, explore, and research. Is this feasible with a geology degree?
Petroleum geology is a big option for me. And also 250k+ salary opportunity’s
Hi Sly, I love your lipstick colour, your video was really good and helpful.
What advise would you to students trying to gain experience or join the working force. I am a fourth year student studying geology in Manitoba and would like to gain experience.
I have heard in order getting into workforce you are required to meet or know people.
If you can share how a geology interview process would be like or what I can work on to improve myself.
Also what is it like as a female in a male dominated field. Thank you.
