You’re so right about how judgmental and snooty we can be. We’re exactly like those who whispered “Why is that Jesus fellow eating with publicans and sinners?”
We’ve forgotten that Christ declared His Divinity first to a woman living with a man she wasn’t married to, and she was a Non-Jew.
Doesn’t the example set by Christ trump all our opinions and prejudices?

Bible Illustrated Hands My Parish isn’t in a huge City, we are the only Orthodox Church in town. However, there are two Universities, many other Churches (Protestant primarily) and a Mormon Temple. My Priest has two talk shows on Ancient Faith Radio. One is a Bible Study (Transforming Our Lives in Christ) and the other is a weekly ‘Live’ talk show (Orthodoxy Live). Our services are on UA-cam Live.
When you don’t hide Orthodoxy under a bush, people are interested! Our Priest is invited to speak at Protestant organizations, and inter religious student groups who usually have no idea what we Orthodox believe.
Last night on ‘Orthodoxy Live’, day Fr. Evan reminded us that the Apostles were faced with the choice of allowing non-Jews into the assembly of Christians.A choice some people are not willing to make today.
Because they welcomed non-Jews, the Gospel spread until we now have Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox and so on.
Don’t we like the Apostles still have the same challenge to make the right choice and let our light shine?
The question is who do we love?
Who will we let in?
Who does Christ keep out?
Ppl does not join orthodox if you show them on tv or so on. Its a spiritual matter its a desire of a peron and Gods will for us to recognise the true faith if we pray and fast seriously we orthodox ppl. We will pull other souls into our church. Also bojan the guy of this video says about nuns that cared for the disabled and how we should ask for their prayers. What they do is good deed
This is exactly why we shouldn't take gifts or miracles as indicative of truth.
The woman living with a man who wasn't her husband was indeed doing wrong, but where sin stood God's grace overflowed.
To take your example of the woman by the well, the current ecumenistic trend would say that "since the revelation was given to her, it can only mean that sleeping with someone who's not your husband is ok as well, and a matter of personal preference, not a sin".
Some people are so annoying. I was told by another Orthodox Christian that I couldn't be black/mixed race and Russian Orthodox (even though my mom is Russian.) He continued to question if I was really baptized and that whoever baptized me, as a baby, was a heretic... You really can't pay attention to those people

How is it possible that this Russian Orthodox person missed the teaching on African Saints? There are Chinese and Native American Saints! What’s going on?!
When my 8 year old grandson met Bishop Athanasius Akunda of Kenya (of Blessed Memory, Reposed this January 4 ☦️) he saw a Prince of the Church who looked like him. Bishop Athanasius instantly became his hero.
Well meaning cradle born Orthodox have asked, “Why don’t you stay in YOUR own religion in your own culture instead of OUR Orthodox religion?” How do I explain that My own Ancient ancestral religion in Scotland was Orthodox but was wiped out!?!Because of cradle Orthodox, what was lost, is for me restored.
It’s the same for my daughter. She has discovered her African Christian heritage in Orthodoxy, and the same for my grandchildren.
By the way, my daughter is THE only African American woman podcaster (video) on Ancient Faith Radio (Annalisa Boyd). Author of the Ascetic Lives of Mother’s and Hear Me. (She and her husband have 10 kids!)

This is mostly an idea related more to white nationalism than Christianity. The white nationalist see christianity as an uniting force of the European. So they dont want non-white conversion to Christianity. But this is another topic, the salvation should be for everyone. Dont use christianity as a weapon to save the white race.

I’m a Protestant, the constant smug condescension towards Catholics and other traditional Christian faiths is one of the reasons I began to actually study what they’re about, and seriously consider them.

I'm a protestant that's really interested in orthodoxy and feel the same way when they just assume I'm hostile to them or worse and treat me rudely
As a former protestant who is now an Orthodox catechumen, I appreciate your compassion. I never knew Orthodoxy existed prior to 1 year ago. My priest told me to not feel guilty about what I didn't know. I'm still working through a lot, but I'm convinced there are "resounding gongs" on all sides of the Christian spectrum. The harsh attitudes of some Orthodox have been a huge stumbling block for my wife and I on our journey, especially with some of the more ethnic churches. We have to ask God to give us the ability to persevere through this daily. It is an overwhelming burden at times. I am so thankful I have found an Antiochian priest who does not act like that, or my journey would be much more difficult and possibly non-existent. Again, thank you for your content.

I think we need different terms.
I agree fully that we should have open dialogue with heterodox Christians. I wouldn’t be a catechumen if it were not for open dialogue and me asking “heretical” questions, I was totally ignorant of Orthodoxy.
But, after asking my priests many questions, he tells me that it’s fine to pray in private with heterodox Christians, but we should politely abstain from corporate worship or prayer at their churches, and there should be no joint services of Orthodox and Heterodox churches.
So, yes to ecumenism, as in open dialogue and friendship
No, to ecumenism, as in compromising The Faith.
These should be different terms, IMO, because I can simultaneously say I am an ecumenist and an anti-ecumenist.

I much prefer using the term "heterodox", since most aren't aware what they believe is heresy, they simply have never heard the orthodox teaching, heresy comes from the words "wrong choice", its not a choice if you are unaware of one of the choices presented

Some believe truth works on multiple levels, with multiple denominations pointing out different applications of that singular truth. Good Catholics (which I am) will find their relationship with Christ all the more enhanced with Orthodox thought and sentiments - it's all really complimentary really.

It really depends what you mean by ecumenism. If you mean engaging with people of other religions and communions in good faith, that's fine. More than fine, it's laudable. If it means Orthodox taking "communion" in Roman Catholic Masses, or betraying the Truth of the Faith to be "nice" or to smooth over political disagreements, that's not good.

@@joshuaboyd6253 No, I'm sorry. They need to agree with the seven ecumenical council, along with the The Fourth Council of Constantinople for them to be considered truly Christian. I'm not trying to be a Pharisee, but to be Orthodox, and thus, to be Christian, you need to recognize the Church (the Ecumenical Councils), along with the Scriptures, to be infallible.

Truth is a binary thing. Either something is true or it isn't. If Orthodoxy isn't the truth why be Orthodox? If it is, why engage in ecumenism? Schismatics and heretics are free to convert to the church of Christ at their convenience, but there is absolutely no reason as to why the clergy should be engaging in inter-religious dialogue.
Totally agree. Small remark though: allah in arabic simply means "the god" equivalent to the hebrew Eli/Elohim.... Arabic-speaking christians, like the Greek Orthodox and Catholics of the Levant, also use the word "allah" for God.

The difference being - if a Muslim says 'Allah' in English, that's more of a dogmatic statement than a plain 'Allah' in native tongue :-)
@@BanterWithBojan Yes usually when a non-arabic muslim uses Allah when speaking it means he wants to signal how observant he is. That's because as weird as it sounds Allah (The God) is not only the title but also God's name in Islam (not to christian arabs though).
Anti-ecumenism (also a few other things) nearly frightened me away from the church. As an American, at least where I’m at, Orthodoxy is literally invisible. I had never heard of it before. I had RC friends (one who is extremely knowledgable and spent time in seminary) insist it’s part of Catholicism. I’ve had Protestants know of the “Greek church” but know nothing about it and think it’s a denominational church or Catholic Church for Greek people or Russians. So...when I started inquiring into it I had these Orthodox saying ohhhh your families devout dedication to Christ isn’t going to cut it because they’re not in a church they’ve literally never heard of. They’re all going to hell despite their Trinitarian baptism and dedication to Christ because it’s not in a church in communion with...Constantinople? Or is it Moscow now? You get the point. It felt really weak and stupid, especially considering there are Orthodox churches near me...they just don’t hold their services in a language I understand. The one near my house has their website and Facebook entirely in Romanian. How exactly is my lack of speaking Romanian and the English-serving church's (over an hour away) total lack of effort to make anyone know they exist a mortal sin on my part? Maybe it’s different if you know orthodoxy and it’s all around you but it’s here it makes God (and the Orthodox) look extremely legalistic and crazy. I ask them how they sleep and night knowing millions of people living in their state alone who are trusting in Christ are going to hell because the THEY are bad at evangelical outreach. As soon as I understood Orthodoxy (thankfully I pushed through the early days of thinking it was crazy - you have to be very careful with strange "Christian" religions in the US) I really began to love it and I agree totally on not compromising in the spirit of “being nice”, but I’m also 100% confident if I hadn’t accidentally found Orthodoxy God wouldn’t have sent me to hell despite my faith. I think maybe a better approach is condemn the belief system (and it's bishops/leaders) but have mercy on the person who has been fed nothing else but loves and trusts Christ.
Amen, I'm evangelical but I vist Orthodox churches because I love my siblings in Christ and want to be with them. Some of them don't like me but oh well. I'll say a prayer for you friend and hope you have a good day.
Same issue 1:1 here in Germany as a German. There is no such thing as German orthodox. Where should I feel home between mono ethnic greek, Russians, Serbs etc.
@@nicodemuseam You know I can't speak for the future but I almost did a while back. I even went as far as to get icons and incense. I have a prayer book and rope, and i use them occasionally as best as I know how to, but I'm not a catechumen. As far as being your sibling in Christ, don't worry I understand; unfortunately it's common for all the Christian groups to see me as an outsider, and its your conviction about the body of Christ, and I respect that. As long as it doesn't offend you I would like to pray for you, and ask you to please pray for me.
Wow, I know this is old but I'm in the process of converting. I have never been treated poorly or called a heretic or anything of the sort. I have only ever been welcomed. We also speak English, Arabic, and Greek at my Church during service. Nothing is missed by me not speaking the other languages, and it's just restated in the other languages. Our website is completely in English.
Honestly, I'm wondering if what you are saying has been that truthful and not overly exaggerated, but I guess some Churches are good and some are bad no matter what denomination.
I have had the opposite experience of losing almost all of my friends because I am becoming Orthodox. They called me a Mary worshiper and idolator and told me I was going to hell. These were my friends for years as a protestant, and now I'm no longer welcome. Or not allowed to talk about Orthodoxy.
Anyway, the ethnic thing has not been an issue in any Orthodox Church I've been to so far. At first, I'll admit I was worried, but outside of my head, It was no problem when I actually went.

All I can say is ecumenism was and has been taken too far in the Roman Catholic Church. 🤷🏽♂️ St Jean Paul II kissed a Koran and there was a 1986 Assisi conference where a Buddha statue was placed on top of a tabernacle. Maybe Jean Paul was only kissing the Koran as a formality as is the tradition when the Holy Father receives a gift and maybe he dealt privately with those responsible for the abomination placed on the tabernacle. I don't know I hope he regretted and repented of many of his mistakes. I didn't know him and I'm not a hagriopher. I'm subscribed to this channel because while I am biased towards the RCC and you are biased towards the OCC I believe you are still my family in Christ as a fellow Apostolic Christian. I personally believe that Orthodox Saints are valid. I think it's a big family feud and it will sorted out eventually.

Ecumenism is heresy. Period.
Pachamama was in the Vatican and Francis and co prayed directly to it. Catholics definitely take ecumenism into heresy territory, but not all ecumenism is heresy, not all Catholics go that far (but several popes have) and the kind which is not heresy is a treasure.
In the end ; how will we lead people to Christ ? By arguments? or by a honest loving testimony in our normal every day life....
I can honestly say; no arguments lured me to orthodoxy, but the example humble loving coworker made me inquire then; before you know it , it starts.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t defend the faith, but we should never do it at the risk for loosing a brother due to our lack of humility, love and compassion.
Besides we are all in the same journey - albeit in different stages - it may be that someone is not ready for a reason- however we are all , always ready to be loved.

Arguments are a good thing, but they also need to be tempered with Christian charity.
I was led to the Faith initially by arguments. Apologetics debates online. But the beauty and humility if parish life sealed the deal.
Oh, one other thing. The danger is not ecumenicism per se but "dialogue". It is a loaded word. For trendy theologians this involves Hegelian dialectic to somehow reach the Truth. This is where the flasehood lies. Hegel is dangerous, his "geist" is not the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. Sitting around and "dialoguing" Hegel-stylie in our different confessions of faith will never be a good thing. Ecumenicism doesn't have to be like that. I will forever support the stand of Fr Seraphim Rose, St Justin Popovic and Pope Pius XI who all were antiecumenicists, and still support the ecumenicism of the laity, we have to, provided we know our faith. Unity without Truth is heresy!

I don't usually leave comments however I do think you have some misconceptions with anti ecumenism. Antiecuminism/traditionalism and extreme zealotry are two different things. One Anti-ecumenism essentially is the idea that we should not be concelebrating with the heterodox and in all honesty, this is completely Orthodox and the idea of concelebration should not even cross the mind of Orthodox or Heterodox all it does is blur the lines for the people. On top of this, you'd be very hard-pressed to find a genuine "Anti-ecumenist who sees all heterodox as "heretics" again the word heretic is misused and it should be understood that heresy is a choice. Catholicism and Protestantism are heresies but that doesn't equate to their followers as being heretics. On the topic of ecumenism and anti ecumenism The Saints are extremely clear about the fact that we are different and how we shouldn't be concelebrating with them. People who were loved by all the people Like Saint Nektarios were very clear that we are different. The Saints whether modern or historic are not in any way shape or form part of the "ecumenist camp". The idea that traditionalism is bad is extremely wrong because our Saints fall under the traditionalist camp. The people who fall under the ecumenist camp aren't Saints. Many of these ecumenists call our Saints and Fathers evil people. When these ecumenists die sewage comes out of them however when the Saints die who these "scholars accuse as being evil" myrrh gushes from them. Now here's what I want to bring up there are crazy people who go around calling everyone a heretic anathematizing everyone, however, these aren't traditionalists. These are extreme zealots, these extreme zealots are of the same spirit as the ecumenists just the opposite spectrum and these people are even worse than ecumenists. I'd like to also add that Allah isn't exclusively Muslim and the fact of the matter is that Allah is a word used by Arabic speaking Christians as well.

I don't agree with everything said, but it's clear you love God and His word, so I remember Jesus when He says "do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you". People often forget that Our Lord forbid sectarianism.
I will admit, I have read a lot of the Ante-Nicene and Apostolic Fathers and have become more sympathetic to Eastern Orthodoxy (though I would still have the same classic objections regarding your practices and theology and have no wish to convert).
So keep doing what you are doing my Brother in Christ, and don't be disheartened. I'll be praying for you and your platform.

I can respect your opinion and still love you and people who are actually ecumenists but I believe flirting with Rome and other western churches can only result in the degradation of the true faith. I don't believe anything can be found in the other churches that can't be found in Orthodoxy, at least nothing beneficial. It is tragic that they are in schism, but they are. I don't believe they are beyond salvation but I do believe that Orthodoxy is the Best path for salvation.

I do think protestants and Catholics have things we lack. Protestants have a zeal for spreading the gospel, for example, whereas we Orthodox are notoriously insular. I do, however, agree that their understanding of Christ is nonsalvific, and very specifically I have seen constant evidence that neither has the capability to actually heal people or produce saints. Which is what this is all about.

I think there is a similar effect going on with Catholic and Orthodox traditionalists. It's the snootiness and smirking. It's the sin of pride. As someone bounden 15 years to a sin of the flesh, the only thing I find ridiculous is the man who thinks he's got something to boast about. Take care, lest ye fall. Old calendars will not save you if you are found in adultery or theft or gluttony on the last day.

I have been Orthodox for 20 years (OCA - "Ecumenist"), and for the last year have been studying the Theology, mindset, and even attitudes within the GOC ("Church of Genuine Orthodox Christians "), and do not find them at all to be as you have depicted them here! They are actually a very gracious and loving people, who have a very STRONG message, and very UNWAVERING convictions, that the Orthodox Church has always been, and should remain, within the Traditional bounds of Patristic Orthodoxy. Perhaps it's the more "modernist" minded folks that are casting false accusations against the Traditionalists. Perhaps it's time for us to come out of our mindset that has been shaped by society, and listen to what the Church (Traditionalist) is saying, and HAS been saying all along!

When I was in university there was no Orthodox Church on my town. I’d have to drive and hour to another city. Some sundays I did not make the drive so I would go to the evening Catholic mass in town. I would not take communion and did not say the filoque. But I found it a pleasant “substitute”for the orthodox liturgy when u could t attend.
I mean an Orthodox man later who rebuked my actions. Saying I was praying with heretics. Why not just pray in my room alone and I was shocked and hurt. I was just trying to do my best. I meant another man, a convert, who would leave the dinner table whenever his family said grace(Pentecostal) because he did not want to pray with heretics. Madness
We must always espouse the truth of holy orthodoxy, and never be of the mind set “we’re all basically just the same”. But every Sunday we pray for the unity of the church. If we do nothing to try and reach out to others , to enter a discussion, being unmoved in the truth with love, Then we are liars.
Loved this video! May us Catholics and Orthodox pray for the Holy Spirit to bring us back to unity as the Father and the Son are united, in his terms and not in ours. It hurts my heart to think that we shall live the millenium after the schism, 1000 years of rupture of Christianity.

Great points! You've enlightened me very much with your perspective. One point I want to mention is that for Muslims, Allah is just the Arabic word for God. Maronites, Copts or even Orthodox Christians in Arabic-speaking countries know God by that name. Theological issues aside, the use of that word is purely linguistic.

I don't agree with all your theology - especially about the "salvation of animals" - but I am a huge fan and patreon supporter of your efforts because I believe your released and approachable attitude to orthodoxy is better than the snooty autistic screeching many of the faithful (especially Ephraimites) engage in that make Evangelical Puritans say "calm down bruh"

I agree 100% these types online almost kept me from joining the church. I found an amazing church who has been the biggest blessing I have ever had in my life. We should treat people the way Christ did, and walk in love.
Hi. I do not mean to be annoying, and I very likely am. Some Antiochian Christians use "Allah" to mean God, but not Islam. I just think more knowledge can sometimes help prevent conclusions being jumped to.

Well, again, I'm against toxicity, and also not against traditionalism - it is just that this particular kind of toxicity is usually bred in traditional circles.

Fascinating to know that you were tempted towards the Old Calendarists at one point. I know a few people who see you as an ecumenist or overly modernist (mostly who are in Jay Dyer's close circle--I do agree with Jay probably 80% or so of the time, but there are definitely cases where I feel like he misconstrues certain things, but I dont know if it's deliberate or not), so it's definitely interesting to know that you were at the hardline end before. Not going to lie, I've been tempted there before, but I'm glad other voices prevailed (and honestly, if it werent for a few sins i repeatedly struggle with and the almost Donatist mindset some of them have, I might have jumped in with the schismatics--while my sins are still bad and something to conquer, they *did* keep me from falling to something worse, and I thank God that it worked out the way it did)
Totally bummed that you dislike traditionalists - never realized this but it does explain why I always felt my beliefs were vaguely under attack listening to your perspectives. I'm sorry that you had some sort of emotional experience that leads you to believe that traditionalism sucks the life out of Church, when in fact it is the foundation of what makes Orthodoxy, well, Orthodoxy.
St. Vincent's standard of Orthodoxy is that which is believed in all places, in all times, by all Orthodox Christians. That's all traditionalism is. It ends up angering both left and right because Christ's Truth supersedes political classifications. It also sadly appears it angers those who are irritated that acknowledging something is erroneous, and that pretending otherwise would be wrong too, is somehow uncharitable. That attempting to live out a life faithful to how Christians who were eaten by lions would have lived is somehow Pharisaical.
I pray that you have peace because the implication I had from this video is that you don't really know many, if any, traditionalists, but your view of what traditionalism is, is taking up major headspace and leading you to see as 2nd class Orthodox those who are keeping Orthodoxy from sliding into quasi-Protestantism.

Thanks for the video! Unsure what you mean by "old calendarists broken off from the canonical church" as for example ROCOR and the Greek church were still in communion after the calendar split. Seems more of a mild disagreement at this time.

There's a difference between canonical groups that use the old calendar and 'Old Caldenarists' which refers to schismatic groups who broke away from the Church.

There's nothing wrong with an Orthodox Christian saying Allah because thats just how you say God in Arabic. Arab Christians say Allah. The difference when it comes to terms in Arabic or Islamic exclusive terms is the name of Jesus. Muslims say Isa and while this name just comes from the greek version of Jesus's name this name is now associated with the Islamic version of Jesus, the proper Arab Christian term for Jesus is Yeshua (Arabic pronunciation of the Hebrew name) or Masih (Messiah).
There's nothing wrong in the word "Allah" in itself, true, but we should remember that Islamic Allah and Christian Allah are not the same God - that's the point... It's very same thing with Mormon God and Christian God.
Absolutely agree with you! "Heretics" in the historical context were those who would consciously adopt heretical teachings and willingly break away from the church. Sending your catholic wife out of the room while you are saying grace might fill american neo-orthodox hardliners with delight but in in traditionally orthodox countries this has never been an issue as far as I can remember.

Well, I asked him, does that mean that I need to unlearn all of the prayers I have learned by heart from their publications, such as the fiftieth Psalm, morning prayers, Small Compline, and Thanksgiving After Communion--which I have known since my teens and I am now in my thirties--and relearn them from publications from canonical Orthodox Christians. I then asked if I needed to burn my prayer book and Horologion, which I obtained at a time when no canonical group was producing such loaded content that wasn't abridged.
I have yet to receive an answer.

I like to say that there will not be a theology exam at the final judgment. Jesus isn’t going to say, “Yes you believed I was your savior but you also didn’t understand the Eucharist exactly right, so I will not let you enter my rest.” It isn’t that theology isn’t important but I think all traditions have errors, some more than others, and we will all find out what mistakes we have each held to AFTER we are allowed into heaven.
Theology is most important for practicing the Christian Faith well in the here and now; those with poor theology will not live the Christian life to its fullest potential but will still be saved by our gracious Lord. (I don’t mean extreme errors that some very small sects hold to but the moderate errors held by the major traditions)
Just remember, knowledge does not save us. There are those who know very little of what the Bible says, and are incredibly Christian. Then, there are those who know every passage in the Bible, but live un-holy lives.

I’m a Ruthenian Catholic so I don’t know if this word will be worth anything to you TradOx’s but the way I see it is that ecumenism is a good thing insofar as it allows for greater understanding of the one truth faith amongst those who have gone astray; but it is a horrendous tragedy insofar as it becomes relativistic.
Yes, that is a problem, there are a lot of things 'ecumenism' can mean, and naturally, there is a lot of problems when fighting breaks out regarding ecumenism without defining it first.

Songs, movies, books and computer games all have an effect on your mental state, and this is true whether you are aware of this or not (whereas a lot of other "mental influences" become largely ineffective once the target is aware, especially traditional "subliminal messaging"). Therefore, be careful with the media you consume, as it can have a strong effect on your worldview and your moral compass, even if no logical argument is presented by said media and you are aware of the effect. Even such things as the artists'/writer's personal beliefs can and will subconsciously bleed into their work, implicitly rather than explicitly.
If you are still into emo, I would recommend the band Mineral. While I don't know if they are explicitly Christian, many of their songs have Christian themes and they are all incredible.
We are in the process of becoming Orthodox Christians and we would have found it hard if someone had called us heretics (my wife and myself). I find most of these debates or "dialogues" quite pointless. Who cares what any of us think? Buzzing of mosquitoes and flies. It only matters what God thinks and He made it clear when He created a single Church with a single doctrine and the Holy Spirit sealed it on the hearts and the minds of the first Christians - and that Church with those very same teachings still exists, in the form of the Eastern Orthodox Church, as we are called by the others. How do we know that? Not from words, not from high-theology but from the actions of the Holy Spirit.
Being respectful is the key of human relationships. Saint Paul gave the best pointers on how to approach those of different opinions.
Yet, being TRUE to God is the key of survival. I'd rather have someone shouting at me that I'm a fool than simply patting me on the back and leaving me to my doom.
I don't know if good non-Orthodox will be saved during the Final Judgement (but I believe not), however - I takes a lot of guts to bet the eternity on one's feelings.
I'd like to make a little parallel to illustrate my feelings on this.
So I love this one girl and I'd like to marry her, have kids and all that, and spend every day of my life with her. However, more than her I love God and I'd like to spend every fraction of a second with Him. So if I'm prepared to be "faithful in the lesser" with the girl I love and promise her my undying devotion to her - then how much more I have to do to attain the true love for God? Finding which confession is the right one is like entering marriage. Else is debauchery. Sorry if I offend anyone, but look into your hearts and you'll know I speak the truth.

Love this video. With exceptions of extra-cannnonicalndenoms like Mormons, I find different denominations' understandings complimentary to my (Catholic) understandings. Truth works on multiple levels in application in life and the denominations show us multiple sodes of the same dice.

Funnily enough, rude as it may be, heretic is the correct term for protestants, not because they have religious differences with other Churches. We have that in both the Orthodox and Catholic churches, the Maronites just for instance or the St. Thomas Christians in India. It is precisely because they broke with teaching that makes them heretics, (again speaking as a Catholic I have my obvious biases), and the breaking with teachingis inarguable in their instance if for nothing else than their rejection fo the Real Presence in the Eucharist which literally none of us old fogey branches do, but we do not consider the Orthodox Heretics despite the Fililoque disagreement, but schismatic. I'm mostly annoyed people dont know or dont care about the distinctions because the distinctions DO matter. Its why the Copts in Egypt, or the Syriacs and other schismatics from the earlier councils aren't heretics and still possess apostolic succession.
But I suppose the distinction changes depending on which side of the schism you're on, pretty sure the Copts considered us all Heretics because of our Christology when we split whereas we just think they're in error, because they did not change something but stuck with an error. They thought we had changed and broken when we had not.
Interestingly enough, not all protestants hold that teaching. Lutherans in particular reject transubstantiation, but don't deny the real presence, just explain it in a different way.
There are ongoing discussions with the Coptics. Pray that they will succeed and bring one less schism!

I’m a (Eastern) Catholic following your videos - I really appreciate your message here. I feel the message transcends denominations. You’re right- Calling people heretics are not going to get them on your side any faster. Regarding the filioque clause, many Catholics have different views on that. Many Catholics believe the translation from Greek implies a procession of the HS from the Father and son but it could all ultimately come from the father. Catholicism has no problem with Eastern Catholics saying the creed without filioque. We believe that’s true as well - if you believe that sense of filioque of procession, then automatically the orthodox view is true. Anyway this was not a message to convince anyone but just to build a dialogue and the observation that what many orthodox believe the Catholics believe in is a bit misguided. And I suppose it’s our fault also that most Catholics’ beliefs are a bit muddied and not following exactly the Vatican all the time.
I became Eastern Catholic through much research and chose it on my own accord, having dabbled in many different religions and spirituality. Orthodox is still on my radar and for the most part, I think it’s the most true. The reason why I stayed eastern Catholic is because 1) many orthodox misinterpret some catholic doctrine like papal infallibility (we are also moving away from pope being so powerful but more toward just having more authority, as it should be), and 2) the fact that most orthodox seem very non inclusive towards other Christians (you not included). For the most part, an orthodox is accepted into Catholic sacraments but the reverse is not always true.

Hi, I just wanted to reply real quick to your comment, and maybe, as an Orthodox Christian, clarify some misconceptions:
First of all, in regards to The Papacy: the big problem with the papacy/vatican is related to Truth not changing.
Truth is from God, God is never changing, He's timeless, and so is Truth, and as Church Dogma is Truth it can never be false/contradict itself.
If A=B and B=C, A=/=C cannot be true, if it were true then we'd have a logical contradiction, wich rather:
A) means God is a liar (wich is not the case).
B) The institution claiming to have Truth on it's side is indeed wrong/false/in error.
Roman "Catholicism", since the Schism, or better say, it's fall into heresy, has had many rewritings of it's dogma, justified under the umbrella term of "dogmatic evolution", wich is nothing more (no offense) than a way of the Vatican to cope with all the legalistic and contradictory circular loopholes inside it's Theology/Dogma.
The vatican has sadly become a humanistic secular corporation, wich only cares about it's economical assets and power, and for wich Truth/dogma/tradition is just an obstacle at this point, standing in it's way, not something that's de facto it's cornerstone.
Take a look at what you said about the filoloque: The vatican's actual position was historically that The Orthodox version is Heretical and condemned, but now bcs they wanna integrate many Orthodox Churches as uniates (Greek "Catholic") they say it's not so anymore, it's actually good.
Same thing they did with Saint Palamas, first he was condemned as a disgusting heretic, now he's a Great Saint of Rome too... But Palamas condemns the filoloque, ADS (absolute divine simplicity, also known as Thomism) and overall the error's of the west, so how can a man that calls the vatican heretical be a Saint of the vatican.
If you can't spot the incongruence and hypocrisy from miles away, I really don't know what else to tell you.
Orthodoxy my dear, is The Truth, although it might have some practical issues, related to stuff like Churches abroad Orthodox majority countries, and overall other small unresolved issues, is grounded in Truth, cuz first and foremost it's grounded in Christ, in His sacrifice on The Cross, and it's Dogma is preserved and untouched, what The Early Fathers deemed True was the same we deem True today, and even the OT Prophets would agree with us, we might look "exclusivist" in our approach, but Truth is exclusive, cuz it divides, most people spit on Christ, reject Him, blaspheme and curse his name, His Truth unites only those that listen to It, only those whose hearts are longing for His love.
This is also another proof of Orthodoxy's Truthfulness, Hell and Heaven: in Orthodoxy Hell and Heaven are not 2 places, it's 1 spiritual dimension, unlike the legalistic western hell and heaven, where there's this legal judgement of our sins, in Orthodoxy, the way we relate to Christ's love is what makes us be in Heaven or Hell.
In the next life we'll be with Christ for Eternity, however, those that accepted His Light and Love will see it as a salvific energy, a liberation, a purifying energy, however those that have not accepted Christ in life but actually have hated him, will see this very Light and Love as imprisonment, damnation, a burning flame, etc.
Who will Judge us will be our conscience, sin is nothing more but us going further and further from God, our hearts rotting and being filled with hate, and so on, what will judge us will be the way we will relate when we'll see the face of Christ on Judgement day, some will love it, others will hate it, and all comes from them, not from the western/islamic legalistic God.
In Orthodoxy we take things very seriously, we might look backwarded and close minded, but that's bcs we do not evolve, change, trade Truth for the lies of satan, that's why we are hated by many, and that's why we will never accept the western sacraments, that's sacriledge.
The west has fallen, it has corrupted, there is no western Church, there are no 2 lungs of The Church, there is Orthodoxy, and the lies of satan... the west has no Church, only the few Orthodox Churches that are there to serve migrant comunities.
We are not good at proselytizing? But don't you remember how just 30 years ago we were still under some of the worst communist dictatorships, where The Church would be attacked on all fronts? Then in the early 2000s we could finally breathe again, and slowly, as migrant communities, in the last 10 years, from Orthodox countries, have moved west wards, we have gone abroad, what do you expect in roughly 10 years since we could finally be back on our feet and do Christ's will?
We are growing more and more, and doing our best to make Truth widely known, however the problem is that we still have limited resources, we have 200 million members, roughly, we have our finances, and we are using them as much as we can, as we grow our presence will also grow, it's a natural process, it takes time.
Many times some of your fellow Roman "Catholic" brothers, wave in our face the success at "evangelizing" pagans from the vatican, however how did that come, at what cost and what did it ultimately achieve? Conquistadores exterminating natives in what would go on to become Latin America? The way they spread the Faith is not Christian, but what did they ultimately achieve? Did paganism fade away in South/Central America? Clearly not, paganism there never died, the pagan soul survived to this day, their pagan indole is still visible, from the rampant degeneracy and divorce rates all across latin America, to the cartel's inhuman execution methods, to the social unrest and untameable violence that the region has suffered from for the last 500 years at least...
Now Papism is dying there, paganism is returning, degeneracy rampant, clearly the vatican, through anti-Christian murderous instruments, did not achieve the conversion of the natives' souls, so how in the world can this be used as an example of the vatican's success and even truthfulness?
Do we wanna talk about the immorality and nothingness achieved by the crusades? Especially, do we wanna talk about the crusade against The Orthodox of The East, and the countless murders, rapes, massacres, pillaging done by the crusader on Christians all throughout the Balkans?
The vatican has long shown it's head and it's true nature, we in The East have nothing to unite with a satanic fallen secular institution, however what we do have at heart is the conversion of the souls of the westerners to Orthodoxy, to Christ, to Truth, to Salvation.
If you'll choose to realize The Truth and come to Orthodoxy, you'll have a long way ahead of you, there'll surely be difficulties ahead, but that's all from the devil, he wants to discourage you from coming to Christ, and God allows them to fortify you, if you'll persevere, trust me, it will all be worth it.

Maybe I should clarify. I am not against traditionalism. I am against radical traditionalism. Sedes and the like.
I've never bothered myself with things that separate us from the Catholicism much. Sure, I've read them and that's about it. I focus more on things that unite us. Protestants are my pet peeve in general, but I don't think they're going to hell or that they are heretics sensu stricto.
The thing is, neither am I G'd, nor is any of our "siblings in Christ". We don't know whom G'd will save, we don't know why. All we can do is try our very best to live according to the commandments we all know he'd like us to live by, and love Him , pray to Him and praise Him.
I for one am a firm disbeliever in the "only x/y/z denomination is the right path" dogma... rather I firmly believe that faith is what inspires G'd to save us, along with love and being a good human being.
I really doubt Almighty will deprive one of His presence and light because they'd have unleavened or leavened "bread" for communion, or even because of their understanding of Holy Spirit proceedings. It's not like we can fully understand G'd's nature, power, will and actions completely anyway.
Like he well noted, these kind of things deter people from faith, and I've been told many times by random people: "Wow, if only Christians were like you I'd join"... (mostly Americans for clarification), and that's not because I'm some lovely, everything-goes type of person. I just try my best not to tell people what kind of relation they need to have with G'd. Honestly, I find such behaviour third-wheeling, rude and unnecessary, perhaps even lack of faith.

I’ve been looking into Orthodoxy for a while and have attended an Orthodox church in my town. It’s one of the only ones in town. The problem is just that they’re ecumenical, and I keep hearing from my Orthodox sources that ecumenism is really bad. There’s only one non-ecumenical church in my town and its a small chapel and they don’t even have services on Sundays. It’s something I’ve been a bit conflicted about.

Man, I agree on the traditionalist part. I get their arguments, but I wanna remind catholics: Second Vatican Council is a valid council and it's teachings are a part of our Church's Magisterium. Novus Ordo is just as valid as the Tridentine Mass. Traditionis Custodie was written because of sedevacantist/schismatic tendencies inside the traditional community
Whenever I find myself growing in pride and accusing and judging others for their beliefs, or get hateful or angry at for instance muslims for their numerous genocides on my people and feel tempted to support movements that infringe on them, I go back to your videos. Thank you, Bojan. I am a horrible person and a grave sinner, but at least I am lucky enough to have your perspectives to remind me of the love that Christ showed us all. St Ignatius of Antioch said we should let ourselves burn for Christ so others can get light and heat from us and be willing to burn for Christ as well, and I feel you do this through your UA-cam mission. While you are not Christ, you reflect his light unto others, be it in truth or hypocrisy, I don't know, so that others can be motivated to burn for him too. God bless you, dear brother in Christ!

To me, if you accept the tenets of the Apostle's Creed and/or the Nicene Creed and live accordingly you are a Christian. Plain and simple. I am a conservative Protestant, but I find much to admire and emulate in the Catholic and Orthodox traditions too. Likewise, I find much to not admire in all 3 traditions.

I am so tired of the online super orthodox, those who think that they hold the absolute key within them and are their preservers of the Holy Orthodox faith and any comment that differs from their little online recently converted super Orthodox mind makes my skin crawl because that attitude turns the holy Orthodox Church into a pitted match of toxic opinions that anybody's opinion if it disagrees with yours will be summarily slapped down. I have been an Orthodox Christian for 47 years. I am ordained to the sub deacinate I am a catechist wirh full sypportI and in obedience to my protos. So I am not a loose cannon. I teach the faith and I have for over 35 years, ( hey I waited ten years to learn the faith before I dared even open my mouth) this does not IN ANYWAY make me superior or a super orthodox what it means is that it would do an amazing amount of good for people to immerse into the scripture and faith and learn and participate in the ecclesial event of the cup whereby we are brought into union with Christ even as the Father and and Christ are one (see Jesus' high priestly prayer for all of us. I guess he was just being an ecuminist) WE are called to convert in love even those who we think don't have it right not denounce them. To do so REQUIRES that we (or better yet I )constantly have to humble myself Before the Throne of God immerse myself into the love and the guidance of the Holy Spirit In His holy church and love everyone who comes towards Christ. if they need teaching teach them if they need prayer pray if they need healing remove our plank so that we may better see to remove their speck and if you call that ecumenism then Christ was an ecumanist and Paul was one of the worst and St Peter should be denounced for having and obeying the vision a clean and unclean animals were Christ taught him to call nothing unclean which God has cleansed we want to bring people to the faith not denounce efforts to do so this does not mean we accept gross error and heresy but we teach gently and we bring people to the faith. To start off not everybody is fully immersed in Orthodoxy at the beginning sometimes it takes time to bring people out of error but if you'd denounce everyone as an ecumenist heretic for making an effort to bring people to the holy Orthodox Church who have not yet gained the full understanding of what we are trying to teach then all I can say is I will pray for you brothers and sisters but your attitude is painful to God. There, that's my Rant ! Pray for me.

I know this is an old video but I have to comment. I believe that we can unify with other churches when they renounce their heresies and accept all of the dogmas of the Orthodox church publicly. This is because Christ established one church authority. We are bound by the authority of the church, however, God is not bound by the same rules we are. God certainly has ways of recognizing and rewarding the piety of people outside the formal boundaries of the church. That being said, as an Orthodox christian I would never tell anyone outside (or inside) the church that they are going to heaven or hell, because only God knows a persons heart and ultimate destiny. But I believe that I must tactfully disagree with people of other confessions and inform them of their error from my perspective, but never outright condemn anyone. Saint Paisios said we have to give people a gentle discomfort, so that it will stick with them an urge them to seek the truth and fullness of the church, rather than be satisfied in their error which may lead to their damnation. I oppose ecumenism not because I hate others, but because I love them and want them to turn away from their errors. I never want a catholic or protestant to think that they are in an equally valid form of christianity as I am, but I also make it clear that I do not hate or judge them. Just that I encourage them to keep investigating Orthodoxy.

God healed Namaan who was a pagan. God heard the prayers of Nebuchadnezzar who was a pagan. There is no indication that Marduk was ever displaced by Yahweh as patron of the Babylonian empire.
God does not deny himself to whoever seeks him. I know former atheists, muslims and protestants who through prayers found orthodoxy. Jesus died for the whole world, and his blood is upon us as well as well as the Muslims. They might not know Christ, but they can still be led by God to the truth.

The guy who recognizes the virtuous deeds of a holy woman (who is possibly further on the path to Theosis), yet is not hesitant to identify heresy and stand firm in his convictions, or the guy who just told his brother to go to Hell.

He’s a simple Reader, if I’m not mistaken, and this channel seems rather to be the personal reflections of an Orthodox sharing his opinions and experiences, not passing himself off as an authority in the Church. I don’t like the language, but I think the outrage he feels regarding the kind of behavior he describes is just-it parallels Christ’s harsh censure of the Pharisees & Scribes who Christ accused in Matthew 23:5 of making their followers “twice as much a son of hell” as they were themselves!
