People also believe Rockstar are terrible, but I'm gonna just say Rockstar and Valve still remain the good guys, with Epic Games also skadoodling about if you haven't tried the new Unreal Tournament you should give it a go its free and nostalgic.
+minigunexo And SEGA, with their ham-handed handling of Sonic. And Capcom, for forgetting Mega Man existed. And Konami for...fuck, being Konami. The only real publisher holding ANY sort of positive ground is Nintendo, and they're all a bit behind the times and slow to catch up. To say the least.
The real reason I prefer Sega over Nintendo is that they gave the PC platform some love with some really great game ports (anyone remember virtua tennis and crazy taxi? aside from sa1 and heroes), the dreamcast might have been a flop in sales but sega still lives on and that's what I love about them. And now were getting Lost World on the PC while it was supposed to be exclusive for wii u pee? hah While Nintendo is all about exclusivity, too bad m8 we have emulators for everything now. and super mario galaxy in 1080p looks much better than it was on that weak wii! funny you should mention gta4 the lost and damned. there's a mission where you race on motorcycles while holding bats and Jonny whill say "let's give them road rash!".
Awesome. There's one, extremely major, update in RR 2 that was left out, kind sir: the player is allowed to attack the motorcycle police. This was a pivot point in gaming history.
It's weird that Road Rash 3d was missed out on this list, as it was VERY similar to RoadRash 64, (I think it even had the same soundtrack), but it's much more grounded. In 64 you could get weapons like inflatable bananas and ridiculous stuff, but 3d was more... grounded I guess, and didn't have quite so many weapons. Jailbreak was like, the direct sequel, with its own soundtrack. The 3dO version though had ports on PS1, PC and Saturn apparently. It was good stuff even despite the GODAWFUL midi music on the PC/Windows version for the races, and the earbleeding motorbike noises lmao.
No mention of Road Redemption? If anyone's looking for a modern Road Rash game, Redemption is in early access on steam right now and has a lost of positive reviews.
+V for Vegeta I got it a while back, and to be honest it just doesn't feel like the original Road Rash. But I do hope that changes over time, as they develop it more.
+V for Vegeta This video was originally recorded long before that project appeared on Steam. The Playstation 1 had three Road Rash releases. The one that was ported from the 3DO and Jailbreak as you mentioned, but between those releases, Road Rash 3D was released.
3D was better then the ones before it in the next generation arguably. Terrible it wasn't mentioned and also no mention of the actual soundtrack that was given on the North American release on Sega with Soundgarden, etc.
+Paz It isn't there because no doubt he thought Road Rash on the 3DO and Road Rash 3D were the same game, without looking it up it seems as they are different games entirely. That along with misleading information on the web that lists them as the same game too.
Ahoy's beautiful yet simple style should be studied by content creators everywhere. This video is over 6yrs old at this point but still feels fresh as a warm loaf of bread. The animations we get from current AHOY vids are missing but their absence doesn't *feel* like it's hurting the video in any way. Obviously the older videos are different in that way but they don't feel like they are worse or lower quality. As an AHOY fanboy I can watch these back catalog entries without feeling like I'm watching an older lower quality product. Take heed creators, this is one of the best examples of how to succeed here on UA-cam.
That licensed soundtrack from the psone port first introduced me to soundgarden... And today they are still my favourite band! Has games influenced your musical or otherwise tastes?
I spent so many hours playing this on the 3DO while my toddler slept and baby didn't. Often my baby would only sleep if nestled in the crook of my arm, so pillows went under, the volume was turned low enough to let her sleep, and she conked out while I raced. Kept me sane during some lengthy nights of colic.
The bikes in Burnout Paradise are the closest we're going to get to the ideal Road Rash game. Such good fun. Also looking forward to Dizzy, I just hope you're reviewing the games that are on the ZX Spectrum and talk about the differences on each hardware platform.

I never grew up with the game, but found a couple of copies of Road Rash 2 at my local pawn shop and never thought much about them, and finally bought them in 2018 after getting a Genesis for the first time and I couldn't believe how fun it was for a game as old as I am. Proof they still are fun even today.
aah, I remember back then when I played road rash in Nappa valley. I almost reach the finish line, only to get thrown away to kingdom come from my bike by a passing car. After finally reach my bike, a police were waiting for me there. Such is life in road rash. 10/10 would play again.
Skitchin was a spiritual sequel of sorts, featuring people on rollerblades rather than on bikes. one of the mechanics was about holding on to cars to be faster than your opponents and eventually flinging yourself ahead
People on this comment section really don't seem to know the PSone Road Rash 3D (Not the 3DO port), which is a shame, I've grew up playing all of them and RR3D is probably my favorite in the whole series
Great game! but along Road Rash, there was a least successful but still fun game with the same mechanics, Skitchin'. Not only is fun, is hard and the soundtrack was amazing. Love to see a video for that game in particular.
I'll admit Road Rash was a bit before my era, but its influences live on. A rather good game inspired by Road Rash is called Road Redemption. Even though I wasn't around for the progenitor to motorcycle combat, I can say for certain the homage its spawned is every bit of good chaotic fun.
I don't think the 3DO version was a full 3d one. It keeps the pseudo 3d road but with a most beautiful road texture. the road of the Need for speed 3DO version was also in pseudo 3d.
Wonder why you didn't mention the Sega Saturn when you mentioned the other platforms that got a Road Rash, the Sega Saturn was a port of the 3DO version and runs super smoothly. A gem I'll never sell. Just wondering... No biggie.
+TomLehockySVK Itis good, but I wish they would make the cars raining out of the sky and rooftop levels optional or gave the player a way to disable them.
I love the first Road Rash so much. Road Rash 2 and the "next gen" Road Rash are also great, but there's something about the first that makes it a classic.
+XxDEDEYExX guess what! ahoy showed off mach rider, a game that was on the nes, but here is the twist, sega was competing with nintendo , advertizing there blast prosessing, but the nes showed that it could be faster then the genisis , an example being mach rider. thus sega was lying about blast prossesing
I remember playing Road Rash, Road Rash 2 and the global one, even had the 3d on PS1, i honestly think its what got me into bikes, think i may just have to find a copy of road rash 3d for the ps1 and get a mega drive and games just to get some nostalgia feels going on
I liked very much your retro games videos. (Specialy the video for my loved Quake). I think the next retro game that you should to dedicate a video is the Command and Conquer Saga.
I remember playing these when I was a kid. I really sucked at it, but it was fun. It was also back when EA was actually a good game company, not the scumbags they are today.
P.E NO.1 was a real pain in my ass throughout my childhood years. The satisfaction of stealing a chain off her and then using said chain to dismount her from her cycle was satisfying beyond words.
There was an underrated, later spin-off of Road Rash by Acclaim, called Speed Kings. It has a lot more arcade-y elements to it but the behavior of your opponents, the "knock your rivals off" kind of gameplay and the occasional (although often brief) police pursuit are all callbacks to the RR series. If you played it today, without knowing the name of the game, you'd probably think it was simply Road Rash for the PS2.
Man I used to play the hell out of this on my Genesis. And then RR2 came out and I play it even more. Then 3 came out which was the RR game ever. Then I got the RR64 which was a fun game to play with friends but it ultimately sucked so bad
Barely a mention of Road Rash 64 and no footage. IMO, RR64 was the best RR game, it would have been nice to see it again with updated graphic, better/larger soundtrack and online support.
Not all of the NPC racers were hostile. Unless you attacked first. You could actually befriend some of them, they would chat with you between races and would be very unlikely to take a swing at you unless you rammed them or something. But they would remember, and hold a grudge if you start a fight.
Road Rash II is my jam! I loved that game. I also liked Road Rash 3D a lot. It was more about just racing than brawling it seemed but the soundtrack was incredible!
Am I the only one who didn't like Road Rush series as a kid?! :\ Because it literally runs at 10 fps and as a result controls are sluggish and feels terrible.
I had the PC version as a kid. You know, the one with corny fmvs. I always thought it was really long and strenuous as a kid, and hard to understand, menu wise. I should look at it again.
i had the mega drive version as a kid, i tried downloading a pc version of it a few years ago, but the menus were all weird, and i werent eve sure if it was the same game
@@gaymingtings i did! needed to mess about with cable adapters, properly dismantle and clean the poor old console, and screw about with analogue TV settings on our current TV, but it works now! :)
Awh, no love for Skitchin'? Was basically Road Rash but on roller blades, developed by EA Vancouver. It physics, gameplay and style is practically Road Rash, but but with a few additional features, including (no shock) skitching. :P Personally one of my favourite games, I had both Road Rash 1 and 2, but always preferred Skitchin'
I do realize that these are re-uploads, but the timing seems perfect seeing as the Oliver Twins (aka the guys who coded the Dizzy games) have just recently released Wonderland Dizzy, an old game made in 1993 that never saw the light of day until just a few days ago. They found plans for a game they half-remembered coding a long time ago laying around in their storage, and some time later they discovered a floppy disk with a nearly finished version of the game. Some fan-driven compiling ensued, and voila, Wonderland Dizzy is online and completely free to play from inside your web browser right now. Bloody great coincidence on the timings!
Great retrospective. Something you're missing is Road Rash 3D, which was a much hyped though very disappointing game released on PSX. Was probably the first legitimately *bad* Road Rash game, and they made Jailbreak as a return to the original formula of combat-focused racing. ua-cam.com/video/blHViomC8g8/v-deo.html
Oh man, by the same guys who made MotoRacer for PC. I LOVED that game as a kid. I played it since I was like 2 or 3 with my granddad. It had beautiful graphics full of color and it was great. Of course it lacked the combat mechanics of Road Rash.
Idk about you guys but I played this game called Motorcross Mania 3 and its plays like Road Rash. You get two modes which are Arena and Race, with your choices of wide varieties of weapons available to buy. The game was overall fun in my experiences.
Road Rash is the single game I ever played in 3 different platforms... Genesis, 3DO and PC. GTA five is about the be the next, if I ever get a friend with a PS4, xbox360, or xboxone.
Heh. I had a 3DO and their version of Road Rash. Lots of alt rock music and live action FMV movies of bikers beating each other up with various weapons. Shitty system, fun game.
I have a computer game that must have been a direct ripoff of this, but I can't remember the name. It was a bike club racing through a city, so I remember there was dodging, and police would also chance you, so you could get arrested. You could smack other bikes with a chain, and run over pedestrians. I remember knocking over grannies trying to cross the road.
Man, I remember playing Road Rash: Jailbreak to death. It was my GTA 3 before GTA 3 was cool. I love running to and past the finish line after being thrown off my motorcycle.
Watching this reminded me of Road Redemption, which is still in Early Access. Can't help but hope it's a worthy successor to Road Rash. And, Dizzy? Now you have me hyped! Can't wait for the next video! :D
I already know what Road Rash is, so this video ended up being entirely useless... not that anything I could have learned would've been useful, but heck, with seven minutes it'd be nice for there to be more content than I could get from playing the game for one race.
The split screen on 2 responsible for many onscreen battles with my brothers that usually turned to an off screen battle. The good old days of Sega making consoles. Had to go through at least 5 or 6 changes and I even had the Sega channel. Technology way ahead of it's time!
I miss Road Rash, I had the PS1 version of Road Rash 3D. The cutscenes were hilarious, with the live action bits. Road Redemption seems really cool though, is it worth to pick up though?
The best thing about Road Rash were the crashes. It was fun to see how far you could fly after hitting an obstacle at top speed. The N64 version was great for that because it had huge trucks that would fling you for what seemed like miles after a head-on collision.
Road rash on the original play station was one of my favorite games, behind Spider-Man. The thing I remember most was the awesome soundgarden soundtrack. Rip Chris Cornell
I can´t believe i still think the name "skate or die" is funny, after all those years. i would say something about Road Redemption, but i forgot this was made on 2012.
I still play skitchin', i still have a rented blockbuster original of the game ^^ One could quickly tell their carts apart due to the size and yellow clip on the top left side. Never got why they had that clip.

& road redemption on steam is pretty much the new gen road rash
Not all of the NPC racers were hostile. Unless you attacked first. You could actually befriend some of them, they would chat with you between races and would be very unlikely to take a swing at you unless you rammed them or something. But they would remember, and hold a grudge if you start a fight.
Road Rash II is my jam! I loved that game. I also liked Road Rash 3D a lot. It was more about just racing than brawling it seemed but the soundtrack was incredible!
Road Rash for N64 was terrible. It had fully 3D models and the fighting/crashes were good but was so bland and lifeless especially single player.
You forgot roadrash 3d.....
God damn, Skate or Die flashbacks galore, man that game was difficult
It's been too long... road rash. Mark my words I will get my mega drive to work again, and I will see you once more, and relive those memories.
Did you get your mega drive to work?
@@gaymingtings i did! needed to mess about with cable adapters, properly dismantle and clean the poor old console, and screw about with analogue TV settings on our current TV, but it works now! :)
@@atinofspam3433 that's sick!! Enjoy my tinned friend 😊
Awh, no love for Skitchin'? Was basically Road Rash but on roller blades, developed by EA Vancouver. It physics, gameplay and style is practically Road Rash, but but with a few additional features, including (no shock) skitching. :P
Personally one of my favourite games, I had both Road Rash 1 and 2, but always preferred Skitchin'
ive been waiting for this game
made childhood
I do realize that these are re-uploads, but the timing seems perfect seeing as the Oliver Twins (aka the guys who coded the Dizzy games) have just recently released Wonderland Dizzy, an old game made in 1993 that never saw the light of day until just a few days ago.
They found plans for a game they half-remembered coding a long time ago laying around in their storage, and some time later they discovered a floppy disk with a nearly finished version of the game.
Some fan-driven compiling ensued, and voila, Wonderland Dizzy is online and completely free to play from inside your web browser right now. Bloody great coincidence on the timings!
omg childwood
Great retrospective. Something you're missing is Road Rash 3D, which was a much hyped though very disappointing game released on PSX. Was probably the first legitimately *bad* Road Rash game, and they made Jailbreak as a return to the original formula of combat-focused racing. ua-cam.com/video/blHViomC8g8/v-deo.html
Now Asphalt 8 has bikes, which were previously missing from 7 and other spin-offs.

Really surprised that Road Redemption wasn't mentioned.
I gotta do malicious joy, if some players lose the game, when they go bankrupt in-game. Jk. It's simply too funny. Like: GAME OVER YEAH!!!
I already know what Road Rash is, so this video ended up being entirely useless... not that anything I could have learned would've been useful, but heck, with seven minutes it'd be nice for there to be more content than I could get from playing the game for one race.
Played the 3DO Version...Man I had fun!
Road Rash was fucking amazing......
My childhood. *Sniffle Sniffle*
I still play skitchin', i still have a rented blockbuster original of the game ^^
One could quickly tell their carts apart due to the size and yellow clip on the top left side. Never got why they had that clip.
I'm surprised there was barely any mention of the many, many funny bowling-alley-style cutscenes the game had in it's prime with RR2 and RR3D0
