  • How to completely overhaul the handling on your OBS (88-98) Chevy or GMC truck on the cheap via parts from 1A auto. In this video I install upper control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar, pitman arm, idler arm, and idler arm bracket all for around $250. This worn out steering was so bad the alignment shop wouldn't even touch it. Now after a weekend's worth of work it is as good as new!! PLUS some huge tips on how to get the most out of your alignment regarding the modification of the upper control arm mounts

    Nice video. There are different sway bar sizes so it's understandable that they didn't include all the potential sizes. A tip for other on the pitman arm, loosen the nut and spray it before getting started then start the engine and go lock to lock a few times. often it will pop off without a puller.

    This is cool as I am working on my OBS 2 door Yukon. Mine is original but pretty babied 217k miles and tracks perfect down the road but this upgrade looks needed considering almost 30 year old parts, though I am a "if it aint broke" kind of guy, I don't quite have your skills

    • @truckandroll989

      Im sure you could do it if you took your time. Most of this is just unbolting and re bolting. Id say it depends on how long you’d like to keep it or when its due for tires. This was mostly forced due to my truck not being able to be aligned with the original parts. My only word of advice (if i could do it again) would be to slot the upper control arm bolt holes so the alignment shop can add in more camber.

    • @whenmountainsmove
      @whenmountainsmove 10 місяців тому +2

      You can absolutely do this. Skill is easily acquired these days thanks to UA-cam. I knew absolutely nothing about vehicles, but for the last 5 years I have been rebuilding my 97 k2500 part by part thanks to UA-cam and have learned enough to where if anything at all needs fixed on my truck, I can and likely already have fixed it, which is why I keep it even with 665k miles on it. I don't know anything about the engine repairs though. I feel like that is something I'd need someone to show me in person. But anyway yeah man you can do this with this very video, and then have the pride that you can repair your own vehicle whenever something goes wrong. Shop rates by me here in Washington are 175 an hour and up! THATS CRAZY!

    I have the same fuvking problem with my 2001 1500 GMC Sierra 2 wheel drive version. I replaced tie rods wheel bearings all of them all 4 of them. Inner and outer sway bar lengths and bushings. All the tie rods inner an outer. Replaced, all the brakes 100% of the brakes on this truck was replaced, including a 100% of the emergency brake hardware. Everything was gutted and replaced with new stuff. Rotors, pads calipers, front and back. 4 brand new oxygen sensors. The frame was completely redone That was 3 grand by itself. Brand new drive shaft. Tune up spark plugs wires ran new coil packs. New battery new belts, new tensioner, pulley new alternator new power steering pump new lines. 4 new shocks new tires. And I did a couple other things to this truck. But you get the general idea. It still doesn't handle the way I want it to the handling is just not there. It improved drastically don't get me wrong. It's a big improvement but every time I take a corner. There's still a lot of body roll in the truck. My mechanic said my bump stops are all most touching the control arm and he was right. It is 1 inch from touching he said there in good shape but there worn out. Would replacing my coil springs in the front help the trucks handleing????
