I also wish this would have been longer.I wish they would have included this in one of their albums. They were hammered but I don't care, this was a special moment in time.
absolutely, mine too..love it that Rick is so Pissed..and Robbie looks on in wonder !! Have been watching this movie since 1976 and still love it it...they were stars xx
ArgyleGroove just saying lol I'd expect this group of geniuses to pick up two sticks and a bucket after smoking PCP for 58 days and record a gold album lol
@DissidentDemon Not cool. If you knew anything about him, you would know his dental issues had more to do with poverty than with meth. And Levon had great teeth!
I agree, Rick Danko reaching over for that glass and being so bloody pissed out of his head but still able to play that fiddle..class..and now one would hope he is with Levon Helm, singing Evangeline....
I dont know why, but these guys look especially badass right here...they look to me like a combination of the rolling stones and clint eastwood as a gunslinger
Danko's performance in this historic concert was superb, he didn't failed any note, despite he played the most difficult parts. Maybe he took less or he tolerated better, but here definitely he's not baked. Don't know about the others...
From what I read, they were pretty much stoned or hammered or whatever, to what extend don't know. Do know there were a lot of cocaine at the Last Waltz, watch Neil Young. Never the less they all sound great. Rick Danko puts a smile on my face in this clip, he is priceless.
@leonor123456 Sorry friend they were in fact all coked up. The director of the movie and many members of the other bands there confirmed there was a "coke room".
Obviously they were loaded and it was just in fun.It made me laugh ,Robbie actually had them laugh about it. I am sure with rehearsal it would have been great like most everything they did.
@stratking69er half baked? They are way passed baked. The amount of cocaine they were doing at the time was unbelievable...watch Neil Youngs performance...so coked out.
Danko was a heroine addict. Was arrested for it. In this video im sure they was doing it all but he has that classic heroine nose itch while singing. He was riding the H train and had tickets for a few others.
Twilight8368 You're right. He broke his neck and his back in a few places. He was lucky to even be able walk or play music anymore. Without the drugs he was in constant pain. Kinda wish he would've found something else, though. He might still be living today.
@@MR94RB4 Thank you. I think they found him wandering in the woods after the wreck. Was in traction for a long time which must have been hellish for someone so social and in constant movement. He was clean he last few years of his life. That's when his weight ballooned up so much. I think he traded heroin for food. He lived his life lustily.
I read Robbie's book Testimony. Rick, Levon and Richard all did heroin. Not sure, however they did it all the time. I think here it might just have been cocaine. I have never done heroin, I did do cocaine off and on the the late eigthties until the mid nineties. I was always careful not to get too hooked. However, I have to say I liked it, it didn't make you into a bumbling fool, just intensified what you were already doing or feeling. By the way I'm of the generation of The Band, never cared for pot, although tried it several times. did more drugs in the eighties than in the sixties.
Not sure he was doing heroin back in. Robbie writes about it in his book, Robbie did drugs, but stayed away from heroin. Levon, Richard and Rick did not, however I'm not sure they were doing it at The Last Waltz, probably cocaine and perhaps a few drinks.@@MR94RB4
Anytime I put in my Last Waltz,{and that's alot},this part of the film bothers me to no end. .Robertson,is so goddamn smug, saying,"it's not like it used to be"after Ricky just NAILS it!! I'm sorry,I just wanna smack him when he says that,He only wishes he could even TRY,to do what Danko can do...just sayin'.
Look at Rick, he's absolutely hammered. So is robbie and probably richard too. They're just having fun, I dont think Robbie meant anything rude by saying that.
I also wish this would have been longer.I wish they would have included this in one of their albums. They were hammered but I don't care, this was a special moment in time.
Agree
It’s so utterly and bitterly sweet, and leaves your heart aching for more
Love The Band - they are the greatest!
My favorite part of The Last Waltz.
Love this clip.
Everyone's favourite part!
Ricky fucking Danko! Nuff said!
Omg that fiddle lick at the end... Rick Danko is hilarious
He knows he's drunk so he's making his fiddle play drunken tones. Genius!
"OLD TIME RELIGION" the most underrated clip from THE LAST WALTZ.Rick's vocals is so raw on that clip R.I.P to him.
His violin skills were on par till the ending lol.
absolutely, mine too..love it that Rick is so Pissed..and Robbie looks on in wonder !! Have been watching this movie since 1976 and still love it it...they were stars xx
I've been looking for this part of The Last Waltz. I just love this I love to watch Rick play that fiddle.
I could watch this over and over again. Love the harmony and the way they effortlessly pick up and start playing magic.
Rick Danko was the man. The end. Give me one so called artist these days that could sound half as good sober. Good luck with that ...
He plays the violin better stoned than a lot of people do sober..
ArgyleGroove just saying lol I'd expect this group of geniuses to pick up two sticks and a bucket after smoking PCP for 58 days and record a gold album lol
You said it man. His hat isn't even on right haha. And yet, he was the one that made this performance good.
Pretty sure he accidentally dropped the violen there at the end too lol.
I agree with everything you said...man I love when Rick comes in with the harmony.
Give that old time music, that's good enough for me.
Rick Danko was the cherry on top!
Great voice and violin player!
Sound so good. With zero effort
Hammered as all hell... yet they still sound great.
Fantastic, soul, love, happiness, bothers together.
darn, danko and his fiddle is all that i need!
Now, that's real music!!
Jesus! my hairs stood on end!
Thank U!!
I dont know why, but these guys look especially badass right here...they look to me like a combination of the rolling stones and clint eastwood as a gunslinger
Now that's what I call TALENT.....American Idol take note.
Even God can't keep from tapping His foot to this one.
@Twilight37 I can't agree more , my favorite part of this movie, And its one of the best Music movies out there.
11yrs later..slight name change and I'm back here 😂🤣✌️musta been hacked somewhere along the line... can't remember.
Ah it's not like it used to be. Boy thats the truth today.
1:00 makes me laugh every. Damn. Time.
Best part of the whole movie
That's what I thought as well.
The halt, skip thing they did is great.
Love it , a good after gig jam lol
Classic, Priceless ... damn I luv it.
They are smashed but it's great!.
Love the pause and foot stomp.
did he just drop the bow on the floor at the end lol
this is so cool I gotta watch this in it's entirety ..
I must have watched this a thousand times and never picked up on that. You can hear the bow drop on the floor. Great observation!
"It's not like it used to be."
1:11 seconds of unintentional masterclass!
I think it's almost better that it's unrehearsed. More authentic. And I agree with everything Twilight said!
I don’t believe in a magic man in the sky but this is damn good music.
I loved them
wish this was longer
brilliant! just brought down the old guitar off the wall to figure this one out!
I wish they were sitting in my living room while playing that.
I give them a shot whisky after this little performance.... the band is a throw back band.
Maybe, but Rick Danko and Richard Manuel were pretty much always like that, and with Robertson you could never tell.
come on, rosin up the bow :)
I wish I could do that. So simple and flawed and beautiful. I got the simple and flawed down. Need to work on the beautiful.

Raw!!! Someone needs to have a word with themself !?
That is what I call inventing NEW music. It have to be improvised!
absolutely!!!
Well I commented 11yrs ago and still think this is genius.
old time religion, for the folks
You didn't hear the whole song because they didn't feel like dragging it out. But I prefer this to nothing.
@leonor123456 Sorry friend they were in fact all coked up. The director of the movie and many members of the other bands there confirmed there was a "coke room".
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE MODEL OF GIBSON GUITAR ROBBIE IS PLAYING HERE?!? it's gotta be from the 1920s or earlier...
Rick on smack, but still ace
Well its good enough...
don't think so, drugged he couldn't play fiddle
fiddle asks concentration
and rick is tuning fine
baked here are only you
looks like maybe a style O?
Obviously they were loaded and it was just in fun.It made me laugh ,Robbie actually had them laugh about it. I am sure with rehearsal it would have been great like most everything they did.
Marleen Fawcett it was great what are you talking about lol
Get a sense of reality whilst it aint too late Marleen...
Just play the fucking note!
@stratking69er half baked? They are way passed baked. The amount of cocaine they were doing at the time was unbelievable...watch Neil Youngs performance...so coked out.
@milkman52879 no

Agreed. And for a total improvised song - Dankos voice sound like golden grit.
Babe you are missing the humour.
Maybe he meant the weed is better? Said it right after taking a toke
It’s all laughs bud don’t be so hard
Look at Rick, he's absolutely hammered. So is robbie and probably richard too. They're just having fun, I dont think Robbie meant anything rude by saying that.
