    I live in an old 1930s house , with ceiling tiles that probably were installed in the 80s (some kind of interlocking paper/cardboard based tiles (just a guess) that are badly sagging in a few places and disintegrate when I handle them .. Definitely time to pull them down before it collapses all over my kitchen.
    Looking for a suitable replacement option and these look great and easy enough to learn to do myself. There's nothing but wood slats or boards above the old tile -- would you recommend installing something between your glue-up tiles and the wood, like some kind of gypsum ceiling board? There's no noticeable gap between the wood slats, so it wouldn't likely show through the new tile.

      We would definitely recomend that you install some sort of gyp board substrate over the wood slats and then glue our tiles to the gyp board. You don't need to tape the joints, but the joints will need to be reasonably flush. If you give our wonderful customer service team a call at 1-800-557-0654 M-F 8am- 4:30pm PT we would be happy to talk to you about your specific installation and we can even send you some free full sized samples so you can see what they would look like in your space.

      Ceilume tiles are paintable, but it is important to note that Ceilume cannot guarantee that the published fire safety ratings and product specifications, certifications, listings, and approvals will remain the same after painting. Therefore, field painting will void the warranty. You would need to speak to your health inspector and the customer service team to find out how painting the tiles affects food safety.

    do you have any suggestions on how/what to use as crown moulding at wall to cover the hand cut edges?

    • @ceilume
      @ceilume  Рік тому +1

      For border finishing, you have two options: caulk or crown molding. Running a bead of caulk along the edge of your ceiling will fill in any gaps where cut tiles meet your walls. Crown molding is also a great option to finish your ceiling. Most standard molding can be used.

    Can this cover popcorn ceiling? The popcorn cannot be removed but has several damaged places.

      Generally speaking, we recommend removing your popcorn texture entirely - most glues are not well suited to that material, and may degrade it during installation. And we've seen evidence that the rough texture can cause the tile itself to mottle or warp as the glue dries. Only if the popcorn texture is very light and shallow do we recommend giving it a shot.
      It's worth mentioning that removing popcorn texture is not usually a tough project. While it's a bit messy, you're usually just wetting the texture and scraping it from the ceiling. The only concern is that, if your house and ceiling are old enough, the texture should be checked for Asbestos.
      If you think you've got a light enough texture, the next step would be to give a sample a try. Our excellent customer service team would happily discuss your installation with you and send you up to three free full-sized samples. You can reach them M-F 8 am-4:30 pm PT at 1-800-557-0654.

    I have pot lights. What is the best way to cut circular holes?

      Great question! We have an entire video on installing recessed lighting with our tiles which shows you how to install lighting. You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/tsr0mJylZws/v-deo.html.
      But since you commented this on our glue up ceiling tiles I'm assuming you're installing our Signature tiles which are thicker and a little more difficult to cut. You can find some great tips on cutting them in our video on installing pass-through sprinklers (ua-cam.com/video/E67R02vct0s/v-deo.html).
      Using a simple template, mark the location of the opening on your tile, and then cut the hole with a pair of snips, utility knife, or appropriately-sized hole saw. When using a saw, run the blade in reverse in order to keep tile material from binding.

    Is there an adhesive I can use along with nails for tin?
    For example a construction adhesive to seal in the edges of each tin tile.

    • @ceilume
      @ceilume  Рік тому +1

      Hi Brooke! We sell adhesive that you can find on our website. If you want something that you can find at your local hardware store we recommend LocTite PowerGrab (but not any LocTite that has a PL in the name). We do not recommend that you staple or nail our tiles in a glue-up installation. If you staple the tiles too close to the edge of the tile, you run the risk of "blowing out" or cracking the edge of the tile. If you staple them too far from the edge, the staples may not be covered by the Decorative Strip. And even if you get the staple exactly centered, the dimple created by the staple could show through the Decorative Strip or cause adhesion issues with the Decorative Strip.

    Can these be installed on top of popcorn ceiling?

    • @ceilume
      @ceilume  Рік тому +1

      Great question! Your installation surface must be flat, clean, and firm or your new ceiling tiles won’t adhere properly.
      You’ll need to remove ceiling texture (e.g. popcorn), and patching and sanding may be necessary if your
      ceiling is damaged or uneven.

      Maybe to ensure you have a straight line? After all, how do you know that your walls are all 100% square? But your question was from seven months ago, so you probably figured it out.
