    Hi JH
    All going well with the setup routine and your protocols.Reaching the green in regulation is easy when your hitting the ball down the middle.
    At my age 77 to find this out with all your attention to details is a great feeling.
    If I could putt I would be taken the money every week.My quality of golf shot is just keeps getting better.
    I am passing on the CH to all
    Thanks to you and Bill
    Great stuff will now try the grip

      Hi Arthur,
      That's great news .. us '77' year olds need all the help we can get don't we ... and I might clearly be biased but I really do not believe any swing type can help out senior golfers better than the CL swing can .. and frankly 'any age' golfer I believe can improve their golfing game significantly by applying the CL swing Protocols..
      I must do more on the 'CL Putting' because its even better as a game improver than the full swing CL mechanics because there is only a ball position change and shoulder alignment change to apply .. there is no shoulder turn or body dynamics to come to grips with .. its all an improvement whilst almost 'standing still'...

    You're the massive find for me as I am learning your golf swing techniques. Epic ball flight and distance. I want the golf swing that I can always trust in. Moe Norman, Count Yogi, and your self. Epic teachers, epic people. Thanks.

      Glad you are getting some good results from the swing mechanics I experiment with on my channel.. there are so many ways you can swing a golf club and get good results for yourself individuaslly.. you just have keep trying different swing variations until you find one that suits your bnody type and ease of mental uptake etc.

    I played my best golf with Moes Swing and "10 fingers", a couple years ago. That was the reason why I at first begun watching you vids, JH. But as a seeker I abandoned Moe Norman swing and the grip. Too difficult. Never the less I am grateful to Bill and you that you intruduce it again.
    Yesterday I was out playing with the 8 fingers grip. It was great to discover the grip again! That will be a natural part of my firm and reliabel CL. Thanks!

      Hi Martin,
      I still have a lot of work to put in on my own split grip 8 finger grip .. its not natural at all for me to have my hands separated ..but when I get it right its a great grip to use..

    Good on-ya, JH! You are very contagious! It looks like your "gun slinger" has disappeared and you look like Moe more everyday (with a CL path of course). Thanks for your never ending quest, mate!!!

      Hi Dave,
      I think I will end up with a fair bit of Moe's swing look in my CL swing going forward... the 'quest' will continue while I find ways to make a 'better' CL swing .. although if I could hit the ball as well as I did yesterday for the rest of my golfing life I really don't need to go looking for 'more' perfection of the swing .. yesterdays quality of strike would do me nicely for the future ..

    That grip really firms things up for me...actually feel my left backhand making a stronger ball strike! My ball flight today using it for the first time on the range was impressive with 5 & 9 irons! Just an FYI, I was on the range wearing a collar sign that said: "If my smile is infectious, ask me why...and I'll tell you about my NEW FIST GRIP and my CL SWING ! Another new addition to a superb golf swing method...thanks JH for the tip!

      Hi Bob,
      The grip change is a winner for me big-time..i am so solid at impact now and it is impossible for the club to turn over excessively before impact and cause a smother or whatever ..ok I didnt have that potential really with my STD grip and the CL mechanics application .. but now its a double whammy insurance policy against that happening..
      You are right about the CL stuff bringing enjoyment back to the game .. I 'know' that 'everyday' now I am going to have the 'same 'swing result as I had the day before ... and that 'has' to make you 'happy'..

      Hi Danny,
      I should have tried the grip when I first started playing because I raced motorcycles ( hundreds of races) for years and have broken just about every bone in both hands at one time or another and actually chopped off some parts of fingers on my right hand in a car racing accident .. so my hands generally are not suited to dextrous 'finger' placement configuration in a golf grip ..

      Actually, Sarazen used an 'interlocking' grip with his 'lead' thumb off the shaft and wrapped around it..not ' his trail' thumb.. ..www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/westchester-biltmore-club-rye-n-y-close-up-of-sarazens-grip-news-photo/516527776... Hi JH I love this experimentation with the grip and why not. The birth of CL would’ve never happened without exploring different avenues.I have small hands and have went to a midsize grip and I feel the club in my palms more and I have to say it feels natural to me .Tinker plays with jumbo grips and uses split grip.Bryson D has a interesting video on UA-cam about his grips and how he grips the club. I think your definitely on to something that will be beneficial to lockers and take it another level .I like to use that terminology because with cL their has been multiple breakthroughs that have elevated the quality of ball striking.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому +1

      Hi Matt,
      No question that the individual grip configuration will be very important in getting a split grip to work correctly for specific players .. how I am exerting the pressure in my grip clearly suits me but may not suit other players .. I have to give more intrinsic details about how to position the club correctly to get the best holding factors working to best advantage ..
      To make the change I did with no testing of the process and to have it work perfectly first shot was mind-numbing to experience ... I feel like I cannot miss-hit a shot now .. never ever felt that feeling before in my entire golfing life .. it must be how Moe felt ... he told me point blank he knew he couldn't miss hit shots in the true sense of a miss hit .. I feel absolutely like that now .. and at my age to develop that feeling is just unbelievable ..
      Clearly the configuration of application 'I' am now using in the grip would have to be physically shown to a student to get them understanding the purchase positioning pressures I am using and exerting in the grip application for myself ..
      It would only be a matter of tuning someone else's grip to suit their hands type of construction... but generally speaking, the 'base' configuration factors that I am using can be applied to any player ..
      cheers Jh

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому

      Lee is a great striker of the Golf ball, he has like Mike Austin his own physicality's of mechanics application, and like Mike Austin they are relative to his flexibility points in his body, those being his shoulders /wrists and hip extensors,,
      Lee can ...like Mike Dunaway and Mike Austin... load the clubhead at the top of the swing whilst getting his hips/.torso moving in advance of the hands/arms with quite some gap in the downswing body componentry sequencing.
      Lee loads the tip of his clubhead at the top of his swing transition with his lead knee/hip the same as Austin and Dunaway did, which is why he can develop the power he does.

      Hi James,
      The crazy thing for me is that Moe showed me his grip in chapter and verse but I just didn't come to grips with the intricate detail of the positioning and purchase factors ... and as result, I didn't like the feel of the grip back then and never used it or taught it to any Moe mechanics students .
      It's so annoying that I have lost all those years of potential ball-striking at the level I am now experiencing .. Moe showed me all about his grip in 1995 ...that's 20+ years wasted ...

      You 'Elder Statesmen' ... yourself and Mike Riley show us, young whippersnappers, what real dedication is to practice... practicing in the very cold weather that I know you both practice in is great testimony relative to commitment of getting a golf swing sorted out .. both you and Mike are on the other side of 80 so really if you guys can brave those tough elements .... all us other guys have no excuses at all ..
      I will never experience really cold conditions where I live ever .. a very cold day for us is around 12 degs celsius... which is about 55 degs Fahrenheit ... but those days are far and few between .. like now over here we have had 40 days in a row over 90 degs .. out west from here they just set a new nighttime temperature record at 2 am of 39 degs celsius which is around 103 degs .. which is crazy at 2 am .. I take some cold days right now .. even 55 deg ones ..

    JH’... it looks like the swing might be straining your lower back, am I right or wrong ? I have a bad back but I love the simplistic swing that you have developed. I’m left handed so I’m having to watch all your videos in the mirror. Love your show !!!

    • @1atomicgolf

      Hi Don,
      The back issues I have on occasions is from some old race car crash injuries ... I do a lot of Gym work with weights and if I try some different lifts that I haven't been doing before I get some issues with my lower back ..
      Actually the reduction in rotation significance that is in the CL swing is great for my back .. Cl is really user friendly to the back .. yeah its a bummer being left handed and having teachers showing you swing stuff from the right handed perspective .. and I am cognisant of that and its why I don't refer to right or left ... hands/arms/legs/hips .. but refer to a 'Lead ' arm/hand/leg/hip or 'Trail' arm/hand/leg/hip ...which is the only real reference I can give for left handed players ..

      Actually the swing that I have had a lot of success with teaching club level players .. is this swing.. ua-cam.com/video/4kP_5_S-0SE/v-deo.html ..its a very simple action and doesn't require a lot of segment type thinking.. its basically just ..fold the trail arm at the elbow.. let the lead arm fold as well as a feeling.. and then just straighten out the folded trail arm in the downswing.. its a very simple swing process for most people.
      There are a few videos on the swing on my channel.. just type in to the search bar .. Fold and Hammer golf swing.. and all the videos will come up ..

    Your discover is interesting in that Alex J. Morrison (who taught both Jack Grout and Henry Picard) showed how the left grip should be in his 1933 classic "A New Way to Better Golf." He insisted that the left hand grip it the palm, with a very strong grip, and the thumb separated well away from the forefinger and wrapped around (ie: underneath) the right side of the grip. Try it, and you'll find that it's a secure grip with that really enables the wrist to cock and "load" the club on the backswing.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому +1

      Hi Lee,
      I cannot wrap my lead thumb around the grip because it creates too much ulnar deviation in my lead hand... as well the hands become totally independent units of operation which makes the hands/arms to uncoupled from each other .. I think you have to have a very specific type of hand construction to apply that configuration of gripping ..

      That sounds like the way Gene Sarizan gripped the club

  • @thomasslagle9715
    @thomasslagle9715 5 років тому

    JH,
    With that grip would you be able to lift the left hand with the club crooked under the heel pad of the palm and the index finger with the other three fingers of the left hand off the club (as in the famous picture in Five Lessons on p. 21)? I often slip into such a grip and try to "fix" it by moving it back under the heel pad. Maybe I should just leave it alone. My favorite description of a good grip is that described by George Knudson in his little Natural Golf book which is basically putting your hands together as in prayer (appropriate for me) and just sliding the right hand down the shaft. That would seem to be similar to what you're doing. But I wonder about the grip being wedged under the heel pad as with Hogan's description. It seems if its in the palm of the left hand I need to find out what angle across the lead palm it should be -- it might be straight across the palm (running parallel to the base of the fingers and you might still wedge it under the heel pad) or diagonally across the palm (toward the base of the index finger) and unless you had really large hands would be difficult to get it "wedged". I suspect late Moe and Dechambeau do not or did not have "wedged" lead hand grips at all. Maybe we've been mislead by that picture in Hogan's book for 60 years. Anyway, nice to see someone mention something that is of really paramount concern to a good golf grip but seldom mentioned. I think the perception is out there that the lead hand "wedge" grip is the only effective way to do it.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      Hi Thomas,
      There is no 'wedge' angle at all in my new grip... and the grip has zero relation to Hogan's grip or any conventional grip for that matter...
      If you held you lead hand straight out in front of you at right angles to the ground with no angle differential between the back of the lead wrist and the forearm and then just closed your lead hand in a totally perpendicular plane manner ...that is how the hand configuration is applied.
      If you had a soft peg... say 3 inches in diameter ...circular in shape ... and you wanted to drive that peg into the ground vertically with your lead hand ..how would you do that..you would close up your lead hand into a fist and hit the top of the peg with the underside of your hand ...the the heel pad of the hand .. but you couldnt do that if the heel pad wasnt configured as a totally flat surface.. and that couldn't happen if the hand was not configured at 90 degs perpendicular to the forearm .
      How you configure that hand orientation dictates how the club grip must be positioned in the hand to get that type of hand configuration ... Dechambeau's grip is different to mine because of the incredible lie angle of his irons .. which are 12 degs upright .. he has a very much finger incorporation in his grip because of the need for a crazy amount of ulnar deviation to facilitate the extraordinary level of uprightness of his irons lies ... you cannot hold the club in the palm as I am doing with that lie level of iron specification ... and if you look at his grip he has a lot of fingers in play in his grip .. which he has to because of the massive size of his grips...
      I will have to give a lot more explanation of 'how' I am applying 'my' grip .. suffice to say at this point in time the main emphasis is really just to keep my lead hand perfectly in line with my lead forearm with no 'droop' angle down when I take the grip initially ... its hard to understand the written explanation as it is here which is why I will extrapolate the configuration more clearly in the next videos ..
      Hogan could hold the club the way 'he'did because his individual anatomical hand construction allowed 'him' to do so ... unless you have Hogan's hand construction type you will not be able to hold the club as he indicated we 'all' should....as I have said many times before .. Hogans book destroyed more swings than it 'helped'.. the crazy illustration of the elbows bound together in the book ... why did he illustrate that when he clearly didn't do anything like that in his actual swing.
      But in defence of Hogan, he did say that what 'he' did in his swing would probably do more 'harm' to general players swings if tried to be applied than it would as a help mechanism...
      cheers JH

      Thanks JH. I look forward to seeing more inside this new grip. I tried your driving the peg into the ground with the lead fist idea and for me (and me only) I naturally make the fist with a flat left wrist and a ninety degree angle between the forearm and the club shaft when I hold it up in front of me. My lead thumb runs straight up the grip at 12:00 -- but that's just my hand configuration. Looking at it from a caddy view it would be considered very weak, say Jordan Spiethish looking. Nothing wrong with that, but it does not look like what you are showing. Yours looks like what they might conventionally call three knuckle -- it appears your lead thumb is about 1 o'clock. When I try the same thing (or what I consider the same thing ) I'm a one knuckle. Of course I don't think that counting the knuckles makes any sense at all, but it is at least a point for comparison. Complex subject -- no two grips look the same or are the same if you really look into them. I appreciate your insights as always.

      I looked again at the video and I'm wrong about the 3 knuckle -- it's clearly not that "strong". It's more that the "V" of your lead hand is pointing between your chin and trail shoulder as in conventional. With me it will run to a spot between my chin and lead shoulder. Maybe the lesson is don't worry about the Vs or the knuckles. Find out what works for your hand configuration to let you hammer the ball.

      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      Hi Thomas,
      I am definitely not a 'strong' grip hand configurator .. it's virtually impossible for me to configure my hand around to a strong orientation because of my short fingers ... I am absolute 'palm to palm' in my hands setting in that new grip application... I will do a more in depth visual showing of how I do configure my grip ..
      I think over the years the reason I always hit the ball pretty straight was because of the neutrality of my grip configuration... my right hand was always super weak .. I still feel in the new grip that I palm to palm my hands ..

    Hi JH one quick question. I’m looking at your side view and it appears that you still have the Moe Norman set up. The shaft angle lined up with your right arm. Maybe you could give us a little demo of your arms in setup?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  4 роки тому

      Hi Jack,
      This video might help you relate to the trail arm/club shaft alight requirements of Channel Lock .. ua-cam.com/video/eL_8_rOt2qU/v-deo.html.... you need to keep as much of an alignment of the trail arm and club shaft as possible in order that you don't lose the correct loft of the club you are playing .. any angling forward of the club shaft at address/impact will overly deloft the club at impact ...

      Hi Bill,
      I haven't experienced any shortfalls with the split grip at all.. it does however require the grips to be somewhat bigger to accommodate the more Palm of the hands application.

    JH Using the two fisted grip which arm provides the power when coming through? Does the lead hand (for me it’s the left) do all the work with the left just along for the ride?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Sandy,
      The lead hand/arm should 'pull' hard at the outset of the downswing.. that gets the lead shoulder going 'upwards' and staying closed normally .. once the lead hand/arm has started the downswing motion you should just be trying to straighten the trail arm as soon as you can before impact.. you wont get the trail arm fully straightened before impact.. but you 'should try' to have that happen as a 'feel'..
      As well as you are pulling with the lead hand/arm coming down to impact you should be turning the lead thumb downwards and over as feeling through impact .. that will slightly close the clubface through impact and because of the in to out swing path .. will impart some draw ball flight into the shot .. hope that helps..

    I started following your videos because I had a very badly Arthritic left hip and knee, making it nearly impossible to shift my weight to my left side. Your early CL swings were clearly off your trail side; in fact, you even hit a few with your lead foot off the ground. Lately, though, your through swing looks more and more conventional, with seeming weight shift to your front foot. I can't do that. Should I just stick to your early videos?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  4 роки тому

      Hi Sean,
      My intention is still very much to use the trail hip/leg as my rotational axis in my swing.. in the early videos I was 'overdoing' that loading visually to get across the need to do that .. I still load into my trail hip/leg as my intention ..the swing now disguises that emphasis somewhat... but the 'intention' is still very much in place ..
      You should just keep doing what is body comfortable for you to do ..

      @@1atomicgolf JH--I've got it working now, and all my hits are straight and long--but very, very low. Can you suggest any adjustments to help get the ball in the air? My driver shots are longer and straighter than before, but even they are low bullets. Any advice would be appreciated.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  4 роки тому

      @@seancoxe3577 Hi Sean,
      You have to be really aware of the shaft angle at address when you have the ball positioned off the trail foot ... you must get the shaft angle virtually vertical at address in order to launch the ball with the correct loft of the club being used ..
      There is a very natural tendency to get the hands too far in front of the ball at address with the ball positioned as far back as it is with the CL swing .. when you get to much sgaft lean at address/impact the ball will go a lot lower ..
      As a drill just hit some shots where you think the shaft is actually leaning backwards at address ... it wont be but it will feel that way .. and get the clubhead realeasing much earlier in the downswing than you normaly would .. I actually feel like I am throwing the clubhead away at the immediate starting down of the backswing .. That gets the release angle at impact level to up which gives proper shot flight elevation ..
      cheers JH

    Wouldn't a larger or jumbo grip work better using the palm/fist grip? I wear a med/large glove and using a palm grip is very uncomfortable. A bigger grip seems like it might work better (i.e. Bryson Dechambeau).

    • @paulgunning911
      @paulgunning911 5 років тому

      Also, how large a grip can you go to? and what effect does grip width have on the swing. Can you go tennis racquet width?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      I think the grip size is directly proportional to the size of the palm length of the individual's hand .. for me if I have a larger grip I think I would lose my 'clamp/crush' factor on the grip with the musculature I have in my particular hands.. At the moment with my normal grip size where I am palming the club creates a dead straight back of the lead hand in line with the forearm.. if I had a bigger grip I think that angularity would change for me ...
      The only thing I think would benefit my hand's size would be making the bottom half of the grip the same size as the top part of the grip .. that being a 'parallel' grip shape configuration .. I really have never understood tapered grip profiles when both hands are invariably the same size as each other ..
      cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      Hi Paul,
      Dechambeau has super Jumbo size grips with about 15 papers under them .. and the grips are parallel as well in profile ... I certainly could not use big grips like that because my hands are not very big ... the 'size' of the grip would be absolutely relative to anatomic hand size differences..
      I think for me I get the right amount of 'crush' factor on my grip with the current std size grips .. and frankly the more 'crush' factor pressure I can exert the better my contact is ... Moe Norman told me he tried to 'draw blood' so hard did he grip with his hands .. I remember Lee Comeaux telling me he absolutely tried to 'crush' the grip so hard did he grip...
      Its still very early days with the grip change .. like 1 day into the development .. but frankly if I never changed one bit from today's grip configuration and maintained the ball flight I had today I would be the happiest guy on the planet .. today's ball striking was ridiculously good .. I will get some DTL video and show everyone how amazingly good the flight is...I cannot believe how incredible the difference was with the grip change ..
      cheers JH ..
