      @@denielwarner7286 you can't. Not sure how this would happen aside from the pin being sheared off but it should never be short since it's an OEM part or you purchased the wrong locking assembly.

    Thanks man. Just had this happen out of the blue on my ADV bike No clue why. Now that I have learned how this work, I found that the pin couldn't engage because the strap of my tank bag was in the way. Worked for awhile, but the strap must have shifted. Thank you for explaining this.

    I recently raised my triple tree thinking the higher bars would be more comfortable and after doing so my bars couldn't lock, but this solved the issue for me. I figured it must have related to me raising them but I didn't actually know how the locking mechanism worked until now so seeing that was pretty helpful.

      Are you able to see the pin in the frame and is there a big enough gap to get a thin saw blade in there.. you can add a notch on the pin and get a thin screwdriver 🪛 or pick to assist pushing the pin back in as you turn the key..

    Where Is the locks location itself that locks the handle bar.?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  2 роки тому

      On the key cylinder side (not the bike frame). I show it with the Pick Tool... Its a round pin that slides in/out of the ignition cylinder (on a cam) when you turn the key.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  2 роки тому

      It's the key ignition switch. You turn the key and the pin slides out from the ignition switch and into the bikes frame locking the handlebars. You can clearly see this demonstration at the end of the video.

    When I push and turn the key it only goes half way to the lock position before it just stops. I’ve already took a flashlight and made sure the pin wasn’t misaligned aswell as sprayed lube in the ignition.Any advice?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Рік тому

      The issue.. if not with alignment of the whole, or debris within the frame hole is going to be a dirty cam.
      When you turn the key it engages the cam that push the pin out. Over time it gets dirty and needs to be thoroughly cleaned. You need to remove the key lock cylinder from the triple clamp. These are TWO SECURITY type torx bits screws. Once removed drop the lock in some degreaser like simple green and let sit for about 30 minutes. Pull it out and then spray some break Clean in the key hole and put the key in and twist out the pin a few time's. Follow up with penetrating fluid to lubricate and then reinstall.. you should be good after this..
      I just had the same happen to me a few days ago and I noticed how hard it was to have the pin com all the way out of the cylinder. After thoroughly cleaning and lubricating it works flawlessly now...

    What about if bike still turns on /off but steering is just locked up & won’t move from locked position

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  2 роки тому

      So if the pin doesn't come out from the frame hole then that means that the cam within the lock that actuates when the key is turned is stripped or broken. Kind of like a door knob that turns but you can't open the door because the plunger is not moving away from the frame.
      I suggest bitting the bullet and replacing the entire lock which means you'll need a new key as well.

      Problems always seem to present themselves on a weekly basis for me. I just pick up my cam and record them as I go. If nothing else pops up then I'm looking at inspecting the valve lash clearances on this new engine. Dont get me wrong, bike runs perfectly fine but it's a periodic maintenance procedure you should check at the recommended intervals the good book suggests.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Рік тому

      Could be a couple of things. Of course not being able to see myself I'm going to throw a few things out there.
      1. Your brake or clutch cable is bindings or is in the way.
      2. Obstruction on the lower triple tree where the safety risers meet the frame.
      3. Bad head bearings or races preventing full turning radius.
      4. Steering stem/front wheel not dead center. Front tire will have a weird wear pattern.
      5. Break line to front calipers are being restrained and not giving full turning radius.
      Have you inspected all of the above?

    You loosened the bolts then briefly paused then retightened them.
    Yes you solved the issue, needs to be clear in video on actuall realignment.
    Didn't actually see anything at the crucial point, mad.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 роки тому +2

      Sorry about that Alan... for those out there feeling the same.. you're just basically loosening the center steering stem head nut and retightening or "torquing" it to specification as stated in the Suzuki manual. We loosen the four outer bolts so that the top triple clamp can slide down the fork tubes easily and not bow downward so to speak.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 роки тому

      Have you tried spraying WD-40 or some sort of lubrication into the key hole and letting it soak.. if not give that a try but make sure to soak that shit out of it.
      If that doesn't work.. then you will need to loosen the top triple clamp to stop any binding pressure between the frame hole and locking pin..
      If that doesn't work then completely losses the top triple clamps as if you were going to remove it and also loosen and remove the bolts on the bottom side of the ignition housing that hold it to the top triple clamp and see if you can wiggle it out so you can replace the ignition. If you get it out, the pin may be stuck in the out position and you can work on it on the bench trying to free it up.

      Undo the two bolts that hold the lock cylinder to the top clamp, loosen and remove the top clamp. Cylinder and pin should slide out freely.. do it in that order... it should be a 25 min job

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Рік тому

      @@williamglasgowjr2846 you just need to remove the two bolts that hold lock bracketry in place.. there on the bottom side of the top triple clamp.. once the bolts are removed it may slide out.. towards the front of the bike... Normally it would just fall once the bolts are removed but since the locking pin is sticking into the frame it will be held in place.. so you may be able to pull back on it, and it just slide out easily.. if not... Then you need to loosen the top steering stem head nut and two fork clamp bolts, slightly raise up the clamp and give yourself some wiggle room.
