What i love about the hero of winds is the fact he isn’t the hero’s spirit that is every other hero, that spirit no longer exists in the timeline. This 10 year old just claimed dibs on being the replacement hero all because he loved his sister so much.
Speaking of sisters, my mom bought this game for me and my sister thinking it was a 2-player, seeing both Link and Tetra on the box, so when Aryll was immediately introduced I pointed at the screen and told my sister that that was "her" character and I gave her a broken Wii remote to "play" with. We then got stuck somewhere around the top of Dragon Roost Island a few months later and played our own version of Wind Waker out in the yard with whatever sticks we could find for the baton.
That's a fair point that I never really put together. He needs to go get the triforce of courage, while the normal 'hero of time' is supposed to be born with it.

It makes 999 hits trivial. Just hit him a few times then block until he attacks. Takes a while, but it's hard to mess up. using this video as an excuse and reminder that windwaker link is the most badass because he is CONSTANTLY told he is not the hero of time, and gives them the biggest middle finger and fishes the damn triforce of courage out of the sea, all starting from the fact he ran off a cliff with a sword to save his sister
idk if he's the most badass but i do love that this specific link isnt even a reincarnation of the hero, as "link"'s soul as we think of it isnt even in that world anymore, he's just a guy with a kidnapped sister who decided he needs to get to the root of the issue lol

you CAN drift without using a sail to travel everywhere in the game but i assume the king of red lions was trying to instill a bit of urgency in lil man😂
For that second boss, the reason the Forest Water instantly kills it is because the Forest Water is supposed to be "sacred water" or "cleansing water." Kalle Demos (the boss) is said to be a parasite or just an evil being, so the sacred Forest Water instantly destroys that parasite.
@@CloudyDaze i mean, light arrows one shot everything, outside of bosses that need to be made vulnerable first, and that boss specifically dies in a few slashes first phase regardless, so not that surprising
Ganon is talking about how he lived in a desert and it sucked compared to Hyrule; and Lil' Man, who has lived in a giant Ocean, is just looking like "What... is a Desert?"
Fun fact: The reason the Magic Armor and ending bubbles make it look like Link is wearing his hat is because he IS wearing one; he's modeled to have an invisible hat whenever he's not in the green tunic rather than a totally separate hair model.
@@gothiiispiderz Basically, instead of making an entirely new model for Link to switch between when he's in a different outfit, the game instead goes "Okay, if tutorial is active, use texture 1 for hat. If tutorial is complete, use texture 2." Texture 1 is just a blank square, so the hat disappears, while texture 2 is green, so the hat shows up as green. It's to save loading time, keep it from bugging out, and make less work for the devs, because rather than switching to an entirely different 3D-rendered head, it's just swapping between two image files.
I fell asleep at multiple points through this video (I was watching at 2 AM so it's not your fault), and every time I woke up it was to you going "It's your man li'l man". Quality content, 11/10, would wake up confused and concerned again
I’m sure other people have realized this far before myself, but I just now realized that Link’s scream at 2:28:25 when he touches the lava was taken and used as the death sound in “Fireboy and Watergirl,” I am having floods of memories from playing coolmathgames in the computer lab in elementary school.
At 1:50:00 the pig digging up the rupee, RT attacking it without words or hesitation, then the pig casually running off the cliff after him and falling directly on him was the funniest sequence of events I’ve ever seen
This might be my favorite version of link, mostly because he is not the hero of time, just some guy who defied prophecy because of his determination, and saved the world.
@@endernightblade1958 Twilight Princess was an interesting one because depending on which version you played, Link was either left or right handed. GC and Wii U had him left handed, but Wii had him right handed because of the wiimote. Because of that, they also kind of just mirrored the entire game on Wii to make it easier lol. I was very confused when I played the HD version
As a person who watched most of the streams of this, I cannot stress enough about how much time was spent with lil’ man on his vlogs, especially for the first stream. it was glorious
This is always the Zelda game I recommend to people new to Zelda. Just because most of the dungeons are easier then the other games DOES NOT mean it’s not enjoyable, Wind Waker is a really charming and fun Zelda, especially for people who want to start the series.
Wind waker has the focus more on overworld exploration and the general vibe. Twilight princess is by far my favorite game but its hell for new players, im aware of that. So Wind waker is a good first recommendation
@@leobastian_ Yeah TP is my favorite ye Zelda game (that isn’t BOTW) cuz I love the hardest dungeons the series has the offer, which is why I DONT tell people to start with it
I’m still angry that they fundamentally changed Tetra when she became Zelda. She was a swashbuckling badass before the transformation but afterwards she’s just eh. The writers didn’t know what to do with her once she got her powers so they tossed her aside. She still has her crew, she still has her skills, and she’s proven several times she’s more competent than you. Why shouldn’t she be a warrior princess fighting along side you.
48:50 - After using the water on the boss: "That's the actual speedrun strat, has to be!". You would think so, but speedrunners actually kill it faster with their sword and bombs. It's crazy how good they are.
2:02:40 conducting actually has no bearing on the notes being played, that's decided by the sheet music playes have. Conducters are just there to keep time for the orchestra/band, help with tempo changes, and volume control.
Hell yeah I love this game so much, Wind Waker is probably one of my top Zelda games. Not my favorite, but it’s up there. So glad to see this stream cut down to watch!
Yeah, but this King is infinitely better than the one in Breath of the Wild. At least the King of Red Lions not only actively helps Link, but actually makes a meaningful sacrifice to ensure the evil of Ganon doesn't continue, and recognizes his own faults played a part in the downfall of Hyrule, while emphasizing the freedom of Tetra and Link. Breath of the Wild's King is only helpful for the starting region, and ruined Zelda mentally which may have played a part in the downfall of Hyrule. The two Sages only need to stay there temporarily, while the four Champions are dead due to BoTW King's actions. I will not take this King of Red Lions slander.
I'm not saying that Red Lions doesn't have his own faults or made terrible decisions. It's just that when compared to BotW King, he made a more active effort in fixing his mistakes. He actually acknowledges his own faults and tries to ensure the tragedy of the past doesn't occur again. And when the time comes for him to use the Triforce, instead of using it to grant his wish of seeing Hyrule wise, he instead decides to let Hyrule end and have this era's Link and Tetra live the life they want.
I'm not sure what else you wanted the king to do in Breath of wild, he's dead, and unlike the champions he has no sheika tech to possess or great combat skill for you to inherit, instead he waited for 100 years for you to awaken and to help guide you to fixing his mistakes and saving Hyrule. Could he have been a better father? Fuck yes, but as a ghost he's doing his fucking best to fix everything, and considering he's held a corporeal form for 100 years he did way more than the champions who are implied to pass on after Ganon died
@@thepbrit Fair. Though I will point that the BoTW King does appear to be able move items around while as a ghost, as shown when using the axe. I mean, it won't be effective against a Guardian but he can move things.
@@aeonixhope8383 I mean, I guess he can move and interact with shit just as much as the champions could, seeing as they could in fact pilot their divine beasts I'd imagine it works in good old ghost fashion though: while they have unfinished business they remain, and the king's unfinished business it to ensure that Link does not go out unprepared, while the champions' unfinished stuff is that they want to help defeat ganon (as it was their whole deal in the first place)
When I was younger and got the Wiiu on Christmas this was packed in with it and for years me, my brother, and dad could never get to the second dungeon on the koror island. I always said we should try gliding through that tornado and go to the spiky island but they always said that wasn’t what we were meant to do. Couple years later I finally gave it another shot and I was right.
It's funny because people hated the art style so much when it first came out, but now I think most people agree it was a good use of the GameCubes abilities. Of course this is the HD remake, but IMO the original looked fine.
@@doubleoof7907 The original came out in 2002. This is the 2013 HD remake. Personally I've got my fingers crossed for a 2023 Switch port too, but we'll see.
I absolutely adore this game, a genuine childhood favorite, but Tetra getting instantly turned white when she becomes Zelda will forever be one of the funniest and shittiest thing I’ve seen in a video game.
@@TommyTom21 They also never had to go outside - a lot of people from pre-modern times would have been fairly tanned from having to do manual labor outside in the sun for most of their lives. But Nintendo turned her way whiter than that, and I'm not a fan of the implications of that.
I adore how this game looks - the stylised characters, effects, bold colours and shapes - and it was the only mainline Zelda I didn't get to play growing up, so it's wonderful watching people revisit it.
I’m so glad these long form, condensed playthroughs are some of RT’s most popular content compared to the more common fast, heavily edited highlights that most turn to bc of the algorithm - all bc it makes the influencer jokes that much funnier
54:08 the intended way to do this puzzle is to shoot the birds with the bow so they don't kill the seagull, and you get the mission to find the triforce at the same time as the bow. I guess they thought it would be too hard to do it without killing the birds first?
Wind Waker is my childhood. I know it has it's flaws but it'll always be the best Zelda to me. Nothing makes me smile like setting sail on the Great Sea. They did an absolutely stellar job with the HD remake too.
Botw was the equivalent for me. That game really got me into Zelda and changed a lot about how I played and enjoyed games. It even changed how I approached real life in some ways (for the better, I think). That game truly is a modern masterpiece and holds a very special place in my heart. I only played Wind Waker afterwards, but I can scarcely imagine how that must have felt when it first came out.
@@thegrapethief5514 Funnily enough, Wind Waker wasn't all that when it first came out. The art style has grown on people, but it was jarring given that a bright cartoon style was being used immediately after Majora's Mask, easily the darkest game thematically in the entire franchise. Plus Ocarina of Time was still in recent memory, a game that along with Super Mario 64 defined for the industry what a game should be like in three dimensions. People new to the franchise enjoyed it right away but it took a while for a chunk of the existing fanbase to take it for what it was rather than compare it to its predecessors.
@@4Entropy44 It only got hate due to a tech demo showing off a realistic Link fighting Ganondorf. Everyone was expecting that to turn into a game, and then we got... this. Only after we later got Twilight Princess did Wind Waker start to be seen as a great game in hindsight.
@@davidmcgill1000 although this is not to say that TP is a bad game, it's just that people revisited it and learned how good it was, just like Skyward Sword got more appreciation when BoTW came out

Wind Waker was my first Zelda game, but rather then playing it myself I taught my six-year-old brother how to play. That was his first time playing a console game and we both absolutely loved it. This game brought us closer and since then we’ve beaten many more together
Update: today we beat Super Mario 3D World together! I let him do the final hit on Bowser, we had a dance party to the credits :) But then the rocket ship showing the special worlds unlocked, and his jaw DROPPED. Next stop, Champion’s Road?
@@m4yr4i Guess what? We finally unlocked Champion's Road. Although we blew all our lives throwing each other off the stage, we're getting closer and closer to beating it every day :)
The Wind Walker was my childhood, and I am fortunate enough that my gamecube still works because I happened to dig out and start playing this before I realized RT started. It made my entire month when I saw that RT started playing it. I don't have many good childhood memories but playing this and seeing my siblings play this game made it a little better. A real treat of a game.
Fun fact! This game gives the triforce of wisdom a new power never before seen! In this game, the triforce of wisdom has the power to make you white and take away anything unique and interesting about your character!
I mean, one that was transformation magic, standard stuff when something brings you to your full power, gotta give you the proper body to harness that power. Two, it just removed her tan. Three, she still acts like a pirate, nothing about her changed aside from her tan.
kudos to cloe and dan for condensing this MASSIVE series into a video!! this has definitely been one of my favorite stream sagas to date, navigating the world was so relaxing and i got to experience a full new world i never got to see in my childhood. as always, excellent work
In case someone's curious: the baton does not mean anything to the music. It's a timing / volume mechanism, so the orchestra can follow someone instead of everyone fighting for themselves.
This game is so incredibly nostalgic for me. Twilight Princess is my personal favorite Zelda game (and one of my favorite games ever), but The Wind Waker is a very close second. Thanks for playing this, Dan. :)
It really doesn't feel like it's been almost a year since this video came out, I have it running quite often as backround noise to fall asleep to, definitely one of my favorites. Keep up the good work Dan, you've really brought me a lot of joy (pun intended) these past few years and I just wanted to say thank you^^
You may also like the full vods, available on youtube (RTGame archive channel or something like it) - I've watched the Windwaker ones twice so far, and there's obviously some bits that didn't make the cut. These particular vods are between 3 and 7 hours a piece, if memory serves me :)
I've haven't played any console games, let alone any Zelda games. I dont have any console either. Watching RT play this made me feel excited to when I can afford my own console to play these games. Thank you Lil' Man for this gamplay.
When I was a young child of like 7, I got a GameCube with 2 games. Mario Party 7, and this gem, Wind Waker. For many a year or so, I could get off Outset Island. There was something that got in the way of the story progressing that I couldn't get past. At the time, the internet was scarcely a thing. The thing that set me back? You can climb up both sides of Grandma's ladder in the house. I kept climbing the rear side, and never the front. So I couldn't get the shield to advance.
5 minutes in and the lil' man's vlogs / UA-cam vids have made me laugh harder than I did in months. This playthrough will be such an experience to watch...
Hey RT, You probably won't see this, but thanks for making these videos. I downloaded some for my flights for graduation and back, and as a nervous flier it really helps having you there on the plane to keep me smiling :)
I have so many good memories playing this game with my Sister and my Mother. I sometimes go back to this game and think about her, and how we used to hang out. It really is that game for me. Thanks for playing it, even watching it is great, and I'm glad I could hang around for it.
I love these lets play all of videos. I don't have much freetime because of my coursework so I can't really watch archived streams or let alone be able to catch them live. These videos are the perfect balance between having a lot of content while still being able to fit it in my schedule. Thank you RT and your editors for putting these together.
From that nostalgic intro to the tear jerking end, I am glad to have watched this vlogventure of Lil' Man. He'll be shaking hands with the top creators on the web in no time.
Being there when it was live, I could hear the pain in Dan’s voice when he realised his photo was possibly gone due to him not saving. It was an amazing play through at any rate and very enjoyable.
Since a lot of people are saying they found vlogging segments annoying, I'm just going to say they were the highlights of the video for me. It's just so ridiculous, I love it
Never been a fan of Zelda games but you sir have such a fantastic personality and such a mastery over showcasing that you creat an interest in games I wouldn't try on my own. For that I really really appreciate you. Thank you very much for your hard work and determination in your passion. 😊 Your awesome. I especially enjoyed your elden ring stuff.
I love this game so much! I love the moment where Medli awakens and looks at Komali flying in the sky, before she and Link leave. Honestly, this makes me really want to replay the game. Thanks RT!
I don't normally post comments but something amazing just happened and I wanted to share it with the class. So for some background I own a GameCube and I have a copy of Windwaker, however, around 4 years ago I lost a cable that allowed me to actually use the console. Over those 4 years I've looked countless times for said cable but to no avail, and eventually I just gave up looking, accepting the fact that I wouldn't be able to play some of my moat favorite games. Then this video comes out and within the first 10 minutes I get a rush of nostalgia and decide to look one more time. I set up my GameCube and get looking, 2 hours pass by with no cable to show for it so I call it quits but before I put everything away I press the power button on the console and it turns on and is working perfectly fine and for the past 4 years I've been looking for something that I didn't need. So I just wanted to give my thanks to Dan for starting my search and allowing me to find out how stupid I am. Now if you will excuse me I have to go play through one of my favorite games of all time.
I doubt RT will see this but I would love for him to play okami with how much he already knows about the culture. It’s a beautiful and very fun game I think Rt would have a blast
"If you are not Zelda, then why do you have a fragment of the Triforce?" Well Lil' Man has a few fragments, but you're not accusing him of being Zelda, HMMMMMM?!?!
Never played or seen a playthrough of Windwaker before, but since it's RT we're talking about here I'll go ahead and burst my spoiler bubble and watch this one! Thanks for taking my windwaker v-card Dan!
I don't know if you're planning on playing other zelda games on hero mode like this one, but Twilight Princess would be incredible. Anyway that was a really pleasant surprise, and a great watch. I'm almost never present during the streams, but I really enjoy very long VODs. Namely I "binged" the entire Ace Attorney series in a few days because I didn't have time when you first posted it, and it was a real pleasure. Your content is incredible, you are incredible. Thank you again.
i teared up at the end of the last stream and again at the end of this video, this game truly is my childhood and one of the greatest pieces of video game art ever made. thank you for bringing me back to my inner child, Dan! ❤️

I’m like 10 minutes in and I hope it keeps up this commentary. This is my favorite game of all time, I just hope the game isn’t ruined when I lay it next and I go all “Hey guys, back for another Gannon TikTok. He’s killed me like 8 times and I still live. I’m trapped for eternity in my unjust torment.”
Wind Waker holds a special place in my heart, being the first Zelda game I ever played. I’m so incredibly glad that you were able to play it, and inspire me to get back into the series! As a longtime lurker (we’re talking pre-hell hole on the old Minecraft server!), thank you so much RT!
The second the audio started playing I literally teared up. I learned how to read playing this game when I was 4 and 5. I'd wake up at 5 am to play it, I'd fall asleep to the games intro music, and I never got to finish the game cause the system broke. It's been years since I've heard tbat song
Like lots of other people commenting, this game brings back many fond memories of playing this when i was little with my Dad, and making him fight all the bosses. Thanks so much for playing this treasure of a game, Dan!
They need to port this game to the switch. However watching you will be a perfect substitute until then. Thank you for blessing us with such beautiful content!🙌🏼
Wind Waker was the first video game I ever played, as well as the first one I ever saw, watching my mother play it as a child. I still have the original disc, and I still hook up the old gamecube every once in a while. It's the only game that's managed to live up to the nostalgia and I honestly don't know what I'd do if I ever lost or broke the disc.

Fun fact: The reason the Magic Armor and ending bubbles make it look like Link is wearing his hat is because he IS wearing one; he's modeled to have an invisible hat whenever he's not in the green tunic rather than a totally separate hair model.
why. that just sounds entirely too complicated

What this person said
I absolutely love them, too!
“Hey guys, it’s your man, lil’ man” will be stuck in my brain forever now
I fell asleep at multiple points through this video (I was watching at 2 AM so it's not your fault), and every time I woke up it was to you going "It's your man li'l man". Quality content, 11/10, would wake up confused and concerned again
While I was sleeping this video came on and I woke up at the 1:50:00 pig sequence. I was extremely confused but it was funny as hell.
I do this too 😂. My fave vid to fall asleep to
Nothing better to watch at 2 AM while procrastinating on a paper due the next day!
I’m sure other people have realized this far before myself, but I just now realized that Link’s scream at 2:28:25 when he touches the lava was taken and used as the death sound in “Fireboy and Watergirl,” I am having floods of memories from playing coolmathgames in the computer lab in elementary school.
Oh my god you’re right, it’s the exact same sound. That’s perfect haha
oh my god
My eyes and ears have been opened
I noticed it while playing Dragon Roost Island on my own and I could hardly believe it
Boy am I glad Nintendo never found out.
And have you seen the faces he makes? Best link for sure
I mostly find it interesting he is also left handed, I don't think I have ever seen a left-handed protagonist
The best Link. Not destined by fate, just defeats Ganon and saves the day purely from sheer SPITE.
@@Dustiferiirc most links were left handed up until like skyward sword
@@endernightblade1958 Twilight Princess was an interesting one because depending on which version you played, Link was either left or right handed. GC and Wii U had him left handed, but Wii had him right handed because of the wiimote.

This is always the Zelda game I recommend to people new to Zelda. Just because most of the dungeons are easier then the other games DOES NOT mean it’s not enjoyable, Wind Waker is a really charming and fun Zelda, especially for people who want to start the series.
Yeah that makes sense. When I got my Wii U it came with this game

To be fair, I think the reason Tetra is more competent than the protagonist in this specific playthrough is because the protagonist is Lil Man

You would think so, but speedrunners actually kill it faster with their sword and bombs. It's crazy how good they are.
2:29:53 the raid shadow legends plug as the monster's gaping maw rapidly approaches from behind was just too good
2:02:40 conducting actually has no bearing on the notes being played, that's decided by the sheet music playes have. Conducters are just there to keep time for the orchestra/band, help with tempo changes, and volume control.
As a conductor, I disagree with that being their only role haha
Hell yeah I love this game so much, Wind Waker is probably one of my top Zelda games. Not my favorite, but it’s up there. So glad to see this stream cut down to watch!

Same here. Hell, it was my first Zelda game. And ever since I've been hooked on the series.
Spirit tracks no joke is prob top 3 Zelda games for me, my first Zelda game and so many good mechanics and items never used again
I feel like the argument of "I know he's bad, but this other guy is worse" isn't a great defense...
@@aeonixhope8383 I mean, I guess he can move and interact with shit just as much as the champions could, seeing as they could in fact pilot their divine beasts
I'd imagine it works in good old ghost fashion though: while they have unfinished business they remain, and the king's unfinished business it to ensure that Link does not go out unprepared, while the champions' unfinished stuff is that they want to help defeat ganon (as it was their whole deal in the first place)
Sometimes I forget how good of a narrator Daniel can be, cause it was super nice to hear him speak the dialogue

@@TommyTom21 They also never had to go outside - a lot of people from pre-modern times would have been fairly tanned from having to do manual labor outside in the sun for most of their lives. But Nintendo turned her way whiter than that, and I'm not a fan of the implications of that.

54:08 the intended way to do this puzzle is to shoot the birds with the bow so they don't kill the seagull, and you get the mission to find the triforce at the same time as the bow. I guess they thought it would be too hard to do it without killing the birds first?
Lol never in my times playing Wind Waker did I kill the birds first 😅
My aim is trash so I would gather the birds and fly the seagull to Link, cancel the seagull, then have Link kill all the birds.
I never thought to kill the birds, that would have made it less annoying...
Oh for fucks sake

I let him do the final hit on Bowser, we had a dance party to the credits :)
