  • I have here a beautiful piece of burl from an elm from our beautiful park (Timorpark) near me. The plan is to make a pot and lid from just this piece of wood, so that it is completely "Helders (Dutch)". I hope you find it a fun project to look at. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear them, of course compliments are always welcome 😃👌. Enjoy watching and if you are not yet subscribed, I would appreciate it if you would like to do so, thank you in advance 🔔👍.

Loved the Beautiful Bowl . The grain is so amazing . My husband is laying here in bed after having a knee replacement feeling envious of the beautiful piece of Elm . Love the beautiful grain in Elm but now we live in Australia it is hard to come by . My postal address when growing up was " The Elms " and our area was surrounded by magnificent Elm trees until the " Dutch Elm Disease ' killed the majority of them . Eileen and David .

How nice to hear that you enjoyed the special piece of burl from the elm. And I hope that your husband David will recover well from his knee surgery. In Australia you have special wood that is difficult to obtain here in the Netherlands. And how special that you grew up among the "Elms" they are beautiful trees but unfortunately there is still the Elm disease. For example, 4 Elms were removed in our park and fortunately I was able to take this burl with me. Good luck and strength with the recovery and very nice to have heard from you 😁👍🏻.

@@GB-dn7nn Bonjour 😀, Thank you for your comment. You apply the oil to the wood to nourish and protect it. I always advise not to put wooden products in direct sunlight and in warm places (on or near the stove). Wood is a natural product so it always continues to work a little.

      @@jonathanmangold5024
Hello, thank you for your comment and question, I have a caliper, but I must honestly say that I do not always use it, only when it has to be really thin and there is little play. The wall thickness is now approximately 1½-2 cm kept because of the drawings in the wood, ingrown bark, I don't know exactly what to call it. But if you look closely at the video you will see when I blow it clean that the air comes out, which was also the reason for gluing it.

Thank you, nice to hear that I can inspire you, to possibly make something like that too! The wood is already nice and hard, so I only treated the "warts" in the wood with ca glue. You could of course also use miniwax or something like that, but then it often starts to shine like plastic. I personally prefer it as natural as possible, so treated it with tungsten oil and Howard beeswax.
