Hello my name is Jens Hovinga, I live in the Netherlands. @woodtastic was my earlier profile name on UA-cam, now I use my own name to keep it simple and personal.
I love to give a personal twist at woodturning, and even when there may be better ways to do something, I always do it my own way 😅
I really love to make special pieces for people that have a piece of wood with sentimental value. Working with wood is magical, you never know what you will find or see in the drawings of the wood. And this can be for everybody something different. Every piece of wood is on itself a piece of art, I only just bring it out for everyone to see.
I hope you enjoy watching my videos and really love it if you comment and subscribe. Enjoy!

Woodturning - A Christmas Turning Challenge🌲

Hello, I have a beautiful stump here, root of a Holly. I got it from my friend Bas who thought I could use a challenge again 🤣😂. A Holly is quite heavy wood that is not very special in terms of color. But it can be turned very well. I am very pleasantly surprised how something comes to life from such a special stump. Hello, this time I came up with a pot with a lid as a project again. I received a nice block of cherry wood from Jan, and I had a leftover piece of Elm (Burl) from a previous project. It has become a longer video than I had intended, but that is because of the size of the project. I hope you like it and maybe want to try it too. Woodturning - DIY a wood chisel as a scraper, does it work 🤔
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 місяці тому
Hello, as you could see in my previous videos I sometimes use a wood chisel as a scraper. The idea behind it is, that it has sharp points with which you can steer easier and more beautifully. The problem is that a wood chisel has a short handle to hit, and has a different sharpening angle, after all it is for chopping. So I try to solve that problem here by making a new handle with a different ...

Does a bowl need to be round 🤔 - woodturning cherry
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 місяці тому
For this project I have chosen a piece of Japanese cherry. This is great wood to turn with beautiful drawings and colors. The disadvantage is that this wood often cracks when drying, so that has to be done very slowly. The piece I have chosen unfortunately also has a crack, and if I want to make it disappear I have to remove a lot of this beautiful wood. So new plan, it will be a natural bowl, ...

Woodturning - Turning A big "ugly" cracked pot of Oak😍

Hello nice that you are looking at my UA-cam channel again! Today I have a very dry piece of oak with great cracks all around. I got this piece from Kirsten and I'm very happy with it. With this new project I will try to round off the edges, and not let too many of the "flaps" break off between the cracks. I also turned a lid for it from oak, where you can clearly see that it is a different kin...

Hello, this time a nice project of a piece of yew with a branch. I want to try to make a bowl with a handle. Of course it is not easy 🙃, but that is the beauty of woodturning, we can all turn round, but seek the challenge and you will be rewarded 😉 That is how I came across a great feather in the wood, just beautiful to come across something like that. First of all I want to congratulate Kristie Nichols, you are the winner of the yew bowl. For our new project on UA-cam I will make a thin bowl from a red Alder. I have a ground hog in my woodshed. I do not think he would be happy spinning around on my lathe. I have turned oak barrels also. They look really sharp when finished with teak oil to bring out the grain and bees wax. What is all the background noise? Sounds like a combined workshop. All the best from Petawawa, Ontario.
@@smeefamily54 Hello Smee family! 😅 It might be a bit of a to big adventure for the ground hog! 😉 How nice to hear that you also have turned oak barrels, they are fun to make and give away as a present. The noise on the background is from fireworks, it was New Years eve and they like to start very early here with sending it to heaven 😅 Other sounds you can hear are from the device that keeps me warm! A great idea Jens. You always joke about the Dutch being careful with money. We also have the same joke about the Scot’s but I have found both peoples to be very generous. I visited Holland often when I was in the army in Germany and always found the Dutch to be very nice to us Brits.
@@Winterbourne_Workshop 😁 I don't know about the Scot's, but I agree with you on the Dutch. I think we (I 😉) always try to get the most out of things and don't want to waste it. But we also can be very generous and sharing. Thank you for your story! 👍🏻😀
...very cool!...what did you use to finish the inside of the cups?... Matt
@@_zhawkeye_9808 Thank you Matt😀👍🏻, It kind of depends on where you want to use the cup for. If you just want a storage place for pens, you can use Howard beeswax or tung oil. If you want to drink from it, I would burn it carefully and sand it with fine sanding paper, after that clean it with a damp cloth. This how they do it with the real barrels to.😀
