If you don't apply your shrinkwrap or subsurf modifiers, and if you use shape keys for the objects inside, you can animate this. There's limitations with the shape keys, like rotation of some objects causes skewing, but you can get some really cool results.
@@daxramdac7194 possibly, but I think because they're all merged as a single object, and shape keys interpolate between two positions on a vertex by vertex basis, I think that can cause skewing for a rotating object. It's entirely possible I'm just doing it wrong.
If anyone also tries to do this with text and get's confused as to why you cannot join the meshes: You need to convert the text to mesh first - this was not obvious to me. In Objectmode: Object -> Convert -> Mesh
I found it pretty useful for any container object that is made from any cloth/fabric matireal, like a sack - you can make a sack not just being regular ball shaped sack, but instead with stuff peeking out. Its cool
This gives me uncanny nostalgia from Ian Hubert's Lazy Tutorials with the quick but comprehendable pacing. And I've been waiting for those to continue for over a year, so anything like that is incredible!
I love Ian Hubert’s tutorials and I strive for my videos to be as informative, interesting, and compacted as his were! So thank you for the compliment!!
You can sort out the objects poking through with proportional modelling or the sculpt tool - which will also smooth the mesh. Its work remeshing the object too.
Thanks for the tutorial, I really enjoyed it. I didn't collapse any of the modifiers. Also instead of joining objects I've used geometry nodes to join all objects, so I can move them independently. I've got another idea for the future - to apply the cloth/soft body to the foil. Might be interesting!
Nice work! Check out what the clearcoat value of the Principled BSDF node can do for that nice plastic of yours in this case. ;) Ignore the max value of 1, make it like 3 instead.
This may actually be the first example I've seen of the shrinkwrap modifier being used to emulate... well... SHRINKWRAP, lol. Just goes to show how many different uses each modifier in Blender can really have - I've only ever used shrinkwrap for retopo.
If it looks like glass, you have to check Materials properties -> screen space refraction and also Render Properties -Screen space reflexions -> refraction (Screen space reflexions appear only on Eevee). You're welcome
This is perfect! Exactly what I needed!! I needed to make a thick black rubber boot to wrap over a switch that I've already modeled. So material will be completely different but I can adjust it after it's done! Thank you for making this video!! :-D
wow, nice tutorial, I don't know why this appeared in my recommended, I don't do blender stuff, so I'm not sure if I'll ever use it. but it was very nice.
Pfft what?! _I BEEN_ trying that with zero changes! Adjusting the Alpha from 1.000 down to 0.001 nothing changes.. then just goes completely black @ 0.000
Great tutorial! Quick question, I did all the same steps yet instead of the glossy see-through look I got a heavily shadowed and dim look. Messing around with the transmission only made it worse. I tried messing with the shadows and alpha channel but that gives a thin shadow type look. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
how are you getting that sort of material texture and colour, cause mine just looks plain for some reason even after I apply the object material settings. Do I need to adjust some nodes in the world panel in the shader editor?
Great Tutorial . is that effect also possible with eevee ? I tried it with Screen Space Refraction turned on , but it looks like glas . Cycles takes too long to render , when I want to do a 1000 frame clip.
Hey there, idk if u are still answering but I tried this method in 4.1 and its not giving me the translucent effect but rather a reflective effect where I can see the default blender forest scene on my object
Amazing video, i'm now subscribed. But how to remove that hideous grain effect from rendered image? it just appers when rendering, i tried to play with render settings, but they didn't help. Please, respond, love your vids
i loaded background image to the world now its rendered. and transmission kind of works but its not transparent or its doenst look like transparent. its just a Chrome metal block. i played with transmission, roughness etc. but no good results
so for some reason I can get to this easily but my plastic stays opaque and reflects a random background.. like a part. I found this under 'viewpoint shading' but I an't turn it off. Hmm Great turorial though
doesnt work, what am i doing wrong. Everytime I shrinkwrap the cube on anything other than a simple cone for example, it just looks like the cube's edges stick to some geometry, but it still just looks like a cube
If you don't apply your shrinkwrap or subsurf modifiers, and if you use shape keys for the objects inside, you can animate this. There's limitations with the shape keys, like rotation of some objects causes skewing, but you can get some really cool results.
Great tip!
Isnt skewing due to rotation caused by not resetting the transforms of objects after modification/modeling? Or are you referring to something else?

I have no idea what u are talking about but i wish there's a tutorial about animating this!
if shape key rotation causes some skewing, you can use rigging then shape key. just joined all object, and adjust single bone to each objects

That is also a good way to do it instead of scaling. I messed around with remeshing and it made a lot of jagged edges which is why I didn’t use it
This is perfect. It's clear what we need to do, no bullshit just straight to he point
This is so cool! Subscribed
