  • If you are in the UA-cam partner’s program or plan on joining soon, you need to know about mid-roll ads.
UA-cam allows you to have ads in the middle of your video as long as your video is over 8 minutes long.
By default, you can set this, so UA-cam automatically takes care of this for you and create the ad breaks.
The problem is, that the automatic option is far from perfect and you may be missing out on a lot of ad revenue if you choose the automatic option.
In this video, I’ll show you the best way to use mid-roll ads to increase your UA-cam revenue.

Finally someone got the freaking point I've been suffering about. Midrolls have always been on the end of my videos. It was literally 5 seconds before its end. And this made my rpm half.
No one talks about this problem in the community based on the country where I live. You made my day bro. You made my whole life buddy.

Whoa, thanks for posting this! I'm not currently set up with the partnership program as of yet, but once I am I'll be so fortunate to be aware of this information!
Also always wondered why some channels had ads placed after the last 30 seconds of the vid... I'll admit to clicking off of them at that point in those cases... unless I was eating while watching them, I'd just continue to eat and know that I was supporting the creator while finishing my food... LMAO 🤣

It is very time consuming as you have said. What I am doing now as a starting point to fix this is going back through my videos and simply deleting the first ad if it is placed before the 5-minute mark. I've done this for my first 30 videos. If this seems to make a positive difference down the road, I will go back and adjust more. Also, the first thing I do is look at my average view duration for that video. If any ads appear before that average time, I delete that first ad. In other words, if my average retention for a video is 3 mins and I see an ad before the 3-minute mark I remove it. That ad may be contributing to lost retention.

I just learned about the early mid ads yesterday and typed in my suspension to search about it hurting retention time and got your video. I guess I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow. I click of of videos with ads early in the video all the time. I’m just not hooked yet and did really want to watch it to begin with. I was watching a dash came compilation video that was real long, when the ad hit me I took it as a reminder I wasn’t really feeling the video. I probably would have stayed much longer for the endless car crashes but the ad gave me an excuse to leave.

You should always check your mid roll placement

Do you get credit for a midroll if it is 'skipped' ,
how many seconds does it need to run to
get credit? Do you get credit just by nature of it
being imbedded period, whether watched or not?

Depends on the niche and content. I'm training foodservice employees with very specific information to help them pass their industry knowledge base test. I have longer retention rates if anything because my information is that specific and every piece of knowledge you can gain from my lectures, helps the end user watching the video. Placing ads, also give breaks because my information can be very bone dry.

Im doing this now....and then I found your video. I am curious though. Whats the point of a post roll ad? Why wouldnt a viewer just click out? Is this some mobile thing? Where your phone gets locked in that ad?

As a non-partner creator, I cannot grow enough to become one because UA-cam is placing ads in the middle of my hypnosis and meditation videos. My videos get many comments and complaints, limiting my ability to reach viewers and subscribers. Is there a way to fix this before I am a partner?

Maybe UA-cam watches when people click out of your videos and decides to insert an ad just before that occurs. I typically unsubscribe when you cannot skip an ad or somehow UA-cam penalizes the viewer. Typically I watched between two and four hours UA-cam on weekends and the initial algorithm seems to hit you with 215 s ads if I continually reject ads until I start getting 5-second ads then I go forward. There seems to be a reset on this algorithm but I've noticed if you just let ads run and get longer and longer and the other issue is the content of the ads is primarily financial banking insurance vulnerability advertisements. I do believe and watching ads on content that has been creative. But UA-cam feels I should watch Ritz and apple ads for 4 hours or car sales in addition to the second advertisement the aforementioned vulnerability topics. I'm sure it's a daily battle on both sides of the algorithm Creator and viewer alike

Found Mid-Roll ads cost me watch time and subscribers...so I got rid of them. My Audience are 75% men over 50 years of age..and they WON"T put up with a lot of interruptions and didn't..

My issue with this is also that this "preview" video you have when setting mid rolls is often not loading. Sometimes it just stays white, sometimes the controls break, sometimes it just stops working if you jump around. This turns it into a total pain in the butt. I am releasing 1h videos every day, and have been "controlling" the automatic midrolls ever since. Sometimes it places like 20 mid rolls in my videos, sometimes it like 2 and then it got them at the very end. This feature is pretty much not working.
