Biomass such as leaves and twigs, can be processed into Biochar. This biological activated carbon can be used for various sustainable purposes, such as cleaning water, retaining water in the soil in times of drought, and it can be used as a filler in concrete or asphalt.
As a partner in the EU grant project CityLoops (Horizon2020), the Municipality of Apeldoorn shares knowledge with six other European cities in the field of circularity.
By working on several projects on biological waste and construction and demolition waste, we share knowledge on sustainable material reuse. This way, no more reusable raw materials are lost. In turn, we share this knowledge with other cities, so that we in Europe become increasingly circular.
