When using miles to pay for flights, United for me is much cheaper. Just booked a flight using united - 40k miles. Same flight on Delta - 140k miles. That's a big difference!
I like united airlines. I have over 5000 miles on united airlines ii about to upgrade my explorer card to the quest card because I feel that you can get better states on the quest card over the explorer card.
Delta offers upgrades to all classes not just the next available class…
Nice breakdown. Dulles is my primary airport. So I chose United. They have the most nonstop direct flights in my area. I don’t have elite status but having their credit card certainly helps.
Bottom line--the awards programs are similar, so choose based on which airline is most convenient (that is, you typically originate near an airline hub or else you typically fly to an airline's hub). If that's more or less equal, then I'd say choose the airline that offers the best experience. For me, Delta is a clear leader--they just seem to treat the passengers better than the folks at United. Everything else being equal, I'll choose Delta every time.
Is playing the points game even worth it anymore? I live in a hub for every airline, but I also feel like air travel in the past few years has been an unbearably horrible experience and very overpriced, and being loyal to an airline just for them to screw you over at every opportunity they get isn't really fun.
United sucks. Super unreliable, but my real problem is that they just don’t care. United really doesn’t care if you’re happy, and I’m a business flier with status. Probably leaving for Delta.
I’ve see Delta flights go for nearly double the rate of everyone else way too often. United or AA for me
Airline status programs are completely broken. The latest changes to earning status prioritize big spenders over frequent fliers. Gold status is the new basic level and good luck getting an upgrade. All the other perks are available with a co-branded credit card. Airline loyalty just isn't worth it anymore for a casual flier (I fly 3-4 domestic trips and 1-2 international per year).
Deltas hub is in the city I live in which is dtw sooo delta for the W
