Thunder and Lightning over Clearwater Beach Florida

- Lightning strikes and thunder overlooking pier 60 and Clearwater Beach, FL coastline from July 2018. Rough footage from my hotel balcony during a typical Florida afternoon thunderstorm. Viewers let me know these were positive lightning, bolts from the blue, cloud to ground, and anvil lightning examples.
The perfect picture of Florida. One minute is nice and sunny the next there’s a thunderstorm lol

Spent a week in Orlando in 2018 celebrating my higshcool graduation with my dad. During that time we hit full sail for a tour of the campus in winter park, and on our way to aroogas we walked through a batshit crazy thunder and lightning storm.
Absolutely gorgeous, but my dad and I had a bolt of lightning explode not a foot in front of us maybe 5 feet above our heads, and that was the coolest/craziest moment of our trip. Absolutely mad. I fell in love with Florida, from clear water to cocoa Beach, and everywhere I saw. Just gorgeous

Ivis H Being from Florida that seems like common sense to me too, but I don’t think people outside of the state and country have that awareness of how crazy our thunderstorms can get.

One look at that sky and I’d be off that beach straight away.

Typical called a blot from the blue. It comes out from the top of the thunderstorm.

@@blitzroehre1807 it’s also referred to as bolts from the blue, and yes I understand the point of exit is over the anvil region of the storm, but I was using another scientific term that is In my opinion more fun to say lol

If I was at that beach I would have pelted my way straight back to the hotel after the first lightning strike
U should've went back to the hotel when u seen a big black cloud when u turned around.

Me too I be long gone. Inside bullding. I can't believe people were just sitting on water they didn't seem worried about there life did they not hear the thunder. I didn't really know lightning can strike outside the storm clouds.
This is a very dangerous thunderstorm because almost all the lightning flashes are cloud to ground. Those people still on the beach are in extreme danger.
Been to that exact spot on holiday! Great storm. Im surprised how ignorant people are with their safety but then, most people are either stupid or don’t care.
In Florida, most people don't care about lightning, so they stay by the beach as if nothing is happening.

Cool, instead of heading inside, people are going to the beach. That's 100% Florida.
Florida sure is a lightning alley, I don't know why it attracts a lot of lightning, but I'm glad I don't live there.
Where we are situated there is lots of moisture in the atmosphere (surrounded by warm oceans). Fortunately there is usually pretty good warning systems in place where this sort of thing doesn't sneak up on you.
Florida is in the tropical latitudes, it's also one giant peninsula with the Atlantic in the east and gulf of Mexico in the west. The two bodies of water create sea breezes which differ from one another in temperature and humidity. These sea breezes collide with each other creating powerful albeit short-lived thunderstorms
Peoples don't get it the lightning can strike 20 meters out of the storm so you can be in danger
Obviously half of the people didn't know that.
Note! There could be a tornado or tornadic activity within that storm.

I can't believe thunderstorms being so unpredictable and dangerous, how people just carry on with their day like they are in no danger. No fear isn't a good thing. Least be aware of what could happen when outside during fork lightning.

During vacation in Florida, that is one thing I dont mess with in that state. When a storm comes yes its quick but that Lightening is intense that state. Making realize why they are they listed as Lightening capital of the world. They aint lying. Saw that bolt out of nowhere and the cloud wasnt there.

Because it's Florida. People are very used to hazardous lightning over there since they get it 90 days per year.

Doesn't look like it to me. And this is why they always say, "when thunder roars, head indoors". The fact you can already hear thunder means all of these people are already in striking range for the lightning

Ya since posting I learned from the weather fans out there this is kind of a special/unique lightning nicknamed bolts from the blue or anvil lightning if you want to look it up. Kind of interesting.
