    Thanks Ivan for an excellent & fair review of an affordable alternative. This would make an excellent addition for those collectors who have a sub-collection of decent homage models of very expensive & famous classics like the Daytona. Many of today's homages have decent movements & build quality & should last for years.

    Thanks for the great review Ivan. I’ll definitely be adding them to my collection, still trying to decide between the two. I’ve already got two PD watches, one PD watch is the homage of the Omega Moon Watch, the second one is the homage of the Omega Seamaster. I’m waiting for my third PD watch, the homage to the Omega Bond 007 watch. PD watches are really great & really good value for money.

    I have these two watches in original black rubber straps instead of unreliable Pagani bracelets. My experience with Pagani bracelets they fell to pieces as soon as open the boxes hence, I always go rubber straps. The best oysters bracelets from my watch collection are invicta and Accurist.

    Excellent review. My first invicta was the white face with gold trim some 15 year to date and it still works. That said, the crystal is scratched as bad as it gets. I LOVE the blue one! BEAUTIFUL but the white face is a very close second! Very close. My recommendation is, buy both or you'll go 🤪 at this price? Start a collection!

    Just yesterday, My father was holding a cigarette out the window of his car when the bracelet on his PD Daytona fell apart. He stopped the car and had to walk through traffic to pick it back up. The case had virtually no damage, as it fell right on the crown, which presented a few surface level scuffs. It was a birthday gift from me to him, and I'm so happy it survived almost totally unscathed. Keep in mind that Pagani Design bracelets are poorly put together, and you're only really paying for the head of the piece.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому

      Wow what drama! Thanks for sharing that. I’m curious if you know which part of the bracelet failed - was it one of the spring bars? (Either in the end links or the clasp)

    Because a 24-hour subdial is really easy to engineer, I understand why manufacturers of mechanical chronographs use it to add a cheap third dial. It gives the look of an hours totaliser, and it's easier to implement. What I don't get is why someone engineering a quartz chronograph would make the third subdial a 24-hour complication instead of an hours totaliser.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому +2

      That’s a good point! I think Seiko has a variation of this movement series where it is indeed an hour totaliser.

    • @nusbacher
      @nusbacher 3 роки тому +2

      @@PerthWAtch Yes, the VK67 AND VK67A have a small seconds, a 60 minute tote and a 12 hour tote. It seems ideal, if you are actually interested in having the chronograph function as a chronograph. The subdial configuration is not, however, ideal if your aim is looking like a Daytona.

    Great review as usual. I have the white dial version and really like it for $63 shipped. I think for many people having quality homages of cool looking watches makes sense. No need to baby the thing; no problem if you lose it; almost no chance of bumping up against anyone in my circles that have even heard of most of the expensive originals, etc. for a lawyer or celebrity it would be quite different i suppose. I own a couple of the 1644's (silver and blue, black dial with gold subdials and case) and think they offer incredible value. They also do a green one which looks looks pretty cool. The bracelet on the silver/blue one is acceptable, while the thick rubber strap on the other one is very comfortable. The PD1687 could have been so much better. I actually quite like the large numbers on the dial, but as already been pointed out the numerals at the base of the watch are upside down, this is just plain WEIRD. The '0' in chronograph is also a bit of a 'typ0'. A real shame PD doesn't get someone with a better understanding of appropriate dial layout to check these watches out BEFORE they make them. An opportunity missed here to give us something a little different without obvious errors on the dial.

    • @PerthWAtch

      Yeah good comment and thoughts there Graham. To be honest the number orientation didn’t bother me much but I can see how that could be very grating!

  • @alexsdg3441

    You are ABSOLUTELY right about this watch. This is the best Pagani watch among all of their watch line ups. Actually, I have bought about 3 of them, not for myself, but as gifts for my friends. They look amazing and I can totally trust the movement. If there are some gripes about this watch, I can say.... I would prefer brushed bracelet (too many scratches on the current mid links) and also "easier" size adjustment for the clasp. I think there are 3 tiny adjustments inside of the clasp, but that was a pain in the butt to get them working.... (Rolex style, Glide lock would have been the killer, but probably they wouldn't get it right anyway.... ha ha)
    PS: it must be winter in Perth (of course). Here in L.A. it is hotter than hell.... I can't wait for October to come, ha ha Have a great day, Ivan.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому

      Hi Alex! Wow I didn’t realise you consider this the best of their lineup - I guess I terms of complexity of assembling a chronograph with all the little hands plus the pushers here it is indeed their hardest to execute! You’re right about the clasp adjust, it’s a dog to work with! I predict that just as they are now close to nailing this bracelet, they will eventually have a working glide lock clasp on many of their bracelets.
      PS. Yes indeed still winter here but now coming to the end, ready to welcome spring :)

    I have one of the white ones, and it is an excellent watch with one drawback- it's bloody difficult to tell how many minutes are on the chrono scale at 9:00! Minute grey text on a black surround does not make for great visibility. This would be a much better design if this dial went to 30 minutes rather than 60.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому

      Thanks for that - very good point you make about the 60 min dial! No chance for Pagani to do that though… we would have to lobby Seiko.

    Hey Ivan thanks for the video...hope you are safe in Perth. Regarding Pagani, I have two green hulk and Tudor like models. Both have had bracelets that have lost screws and the watch has fallen off my wrist. They now just sit in my watch box, pretty to look at, but that's all, as I am concerned they will fall off--again--and become more damaged than they already are. I have spoken to a couple of my watch friends and they have also experienced failed screws in the bracelets and had their watch fall off. Don't know if the watch community has any pull but frankly until they fix their bracelet situation I am not going to buy another one. Cheers.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому

      I’ve heard of the issue of screws coming loose (and not just in Pagani) but that’s not happened in my own experience of quite a lot of watches. I guess it might be a matter of taking care to screw it in with just the right amount of tightness…?

    I have a lot of conflicting opinions on a homages/micro brands. There certainty are some very nice high quality micro brand pieces available, unfortunately they don’t hold their value. I made the mistake of filling my watch box with homages and micro brands but my advice to everybody is to patiently save for whatever iconic watch you desire because you’ll never completely be happy if you continue down the path of homages especially…

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 роки тому

      There’s only one brand which consistently holds value - Rolex. And perhaps also Patek but that’s beyond most of us. Investment value should not be the reason to get watches IMO. And not everyone is in a position to save for higher end Swiss pieces, but homage is within reach.
