Imagine a striker being so prolific that people downgrade him for not scoring in 3-4 matches and missing opportunities. While I can't deny the fact that Alvarez overall is a better player than Halland, but presence of Haaland is just something else. He is a nightmare for teams. They have to put at least 2-3 players in defence to just to block him. While Julian is a complete player, the presence of Haaland opens up the options for being clinical for city. Both are different kinds of players, I won't say one is better than the other.

As a Man city' fan, Haaland always disappoints in big, important and difficult games. I've lost the respect and confidence i have in him when it comes to big and difficult games. But Julian Alvarez is a confirmed and complete big game player. When it comes to important and difficult games, Alvarez never disappoints. He doesn't miss too many goal scoring opportunities like Haaland does.He is a complete and well rounded player compared to Haaland. I'm not easily moved by a player that scores too many goals or too many hatricks in games and fails to score when it matters the most. Julian Alvarez has had an impressive start to the season for Manchester City. 4 goals 3 assists, creating chances, making plays and looking energetic he has stepped up after the injury to Kevin De Bruyne and the loss of Ilkay Gundogan and he is thriving in that SS/CAM role behind Erling Haaland and you can argue that he can be more important to the team than the Norwegian robot, since he brings more to Manchester City than just goals and assists. His role in this side has grown, he has benefitted with patience and now as a starter, we're seeing Julian Alvarez at his very best for his team and he's set for more goals/assists and also more excellent performances and when everyone's fit, it'll be interesting to see if he keeps his starting spot for Manchester City.

I like to see Alvarez play. I am not a Manchester City fan; but if I see Julian Alvarez playing, I keep watching the game. If Julian doesn't play, then I have no problem watching something else. In a team like MC both players are very important, but you need a creator of opportunities like Julian. The first match I saw Julian play for man city first thing that came to my mind was Messi sincerely and I didn’t even know he was argentine then.
They are different, Haaland is a #9 and will keep settings records. Alvarez is a #10, and will get better and better. To me is harder to set up plays and assist others and is what Alvarez is. Both are excellent at their position.
He is more complete as a player and is superior when it comes to dribbling, passing, more vertitile, clutch and managing to be more involved in build up play unlike haaland who is slow when moving the and is pretty much usless in build up play man city have to play 10 vs 11 until the ball can get inside, while haaland is more physically dominant, quicker and more cleanical in scoring alveres has more value one the team overall and isn't one sided and can do many things that help man city to be better in possession

Erling Haaland has started the season off on a roll once again bagging 8 goals in 6 games and could've added more goals if he didn't miss too many chances, he has shown his goalscoring ability for this side as usual, that's about it, at times he's not even been the best player on Manchester City, and while not everything is about goals and assists, he's so good at doing his job when we watch him off of the eye test, he's not involved in the buildup play and that's not his fault when that's never been his game, but when comparing Erling Haaland to the best players in the world and how important he is to Manchester City, yes we can focus on goals, but there's more to that.

Djeez, a lot of people who dont know much football here. After KDB got injured the way they use Haaland is horrible, or should I say NOT use Haaland. He is best turned towards the goal and I can see he gets frustrated when he starts his runs but never receive the ball. When he does receive the ball its either behind him, too far in front of him or in too tight spaces. We never see him get the ball in the positions he was lethal last season. Alvarez is just class. If you watch the game closely you'll see how good his passing, pressing, dribbling, playmaking, positioning is. On top of that he is a lethal finisher. He misses less opportunities compared to Haaland. Haaland is too inconsistent during the big games, if he doesn't score he is nowhere to be found. And Alvarez is class every minutes he plays. Anyone who agrees that football isn't all about scoring goals knows Alvarez is just better than Haaland.

I cant blame haland much, although he is missing quite a bit recently. He is in a Pep system where he is made to do one thing and one thing only. Go watch his dortmund games he is was a different player back then. Pep makes a good team not a fabulous player. Also, Alvarez is more of a supersub anyway. If Haaland initiates his break clause Alvarez will become even more important than he is now. Haaland won’t score if he’s not given the service. He’s not Sergio who would come deep to pick up and City are struggling a little in midfield this season, against the better teams, with KDB injured and Gundogan and Mahrez gone who were both key to last season’s success especially Gundogan. It takes time to replace players like that and I am not sure Kovacic is there yet.

I disagree with the argument that a well rounded player is a better one. Certain attributes have more value than others and excelling in those attributes makes you the world's best sure he can dribble better and mabye have more a finishing palette but he doesn't score like haaland and in the end of the day goals are what wins you games not how well rounded your players are

I think if we talk about technical ability and talent julian is a better player then haaland in that but if we talk about a goal scorer Haaland is better since we saw last season but haaland can't really play well unless some gets a pass to him inside of near the box while julian can create chances on his own both are very good and important to man city i think if julian Alvarez gets a chance as a striker he would be able to create chances on his own unlike haaland who needs others help to score and this season without kdb haaland has been performing very bad so currently julian is better but all time haaland wins this and i like julian Alvarez more but haaland is just better then him
