I found this in 2007, when I was 12. I've remembered it ever since, listened to it more times than I can remember, and hopefully will keep coming back to it for many years yet. It's just brilliant, start to finish.
Well it was either that or the Power Converters at the Toshi Station. But as usual, there's menial droid clean up piling up holding promising guys back on the farm.
Some lyrics: Oh, a sailor's life is the life for me How I love to sail o'er the bounding sea And I never, never, ever do a thing about the weather For the weather never ever does a thing for me!
I swear on the next tour they stretched that out and played even faster by the end, but we're talking about 39 years ago, so my memory could be tricking me.
hahaha! I've been fascinated by mike oldfield's music, and his current website picture suits him so well... he looks so distinguished and bold... but now, seeing what he used to look like! LOL! now that's just embarrassingly dorky! :P If ever there were jokes about mike oldfield, they'd center around that hair :P looks like battlestar galactica(1970s) hair!! :)
at 1:10 he looks bored "Oh my god i've played this SO MANY TIMES" and at 1:42 I have no idea what the drummer was thinking when he shaved that morning... :D
Fuckin cool!!!!!!! I bloody LOVE the Sailor's Hornpipe and they've banned it from Last Night at the Proms! SO I URGE YOU ALL TO BRINNNNG ITTTT BAAAACCCCKKKKKK!!!!! From Jenni in London! of all places LOL ;)
anyone else think the piano player looked a lot like Richard Vranch or whatever from the old series of Whose Line? the ones with Clive Anderson as the host?
He can't yell, just think that when you yell you relax all yourself, and he fells anything except relaxed. He has to move both hands veeery fast. This is a "strength face", like the one few seconds before. Very good video, 5 starts.
Some lyrics: D'ya balls hang low? Can you swing 'em to and throw? Can you tie 'em in a knot? Can you tie 'em in a Bow? Do you get the funny feeling, that they're hanging from the ceiling? Oh you'll never be a sailor if you balls hang low.
Sometimes, the best things in life can be watching Mike Oldfield and company play the Sailor's Hornpipe.
This video makes me very happy. :)
Its great. Awesome!!!
An absolute musical genius, love all his music

Luke Skywalker should really join the Cantina Band. He's an amazing keyboard player!
Well it was either that or the Power Converters at the Toshi Station. But as usual, there's menial droid clean up piling up holding promising guys back on the farm.
That mandolin, shoulda burst into flames before he finished... WOW!
Abselutly one of the geatest music genies ewer.
The rest of the band are seriously struggling to keep up. This is amazing.
Mejor de la historia y mejor multi instrumentalista capaz de tocar mas de 40 instrumentos diferentes
Thank you mr. algorithm for showing me Tubular Bells and Mike Oldfield.
Canada's love for Britian is astounding, and we love you too

It's amazing, thanx for posting! Brings back great memories.
Got the album version but this one is far superior. What an effort to play at that speed. Fingers must have been raw.
this tune actually sounded like a baroque piece at the beginning ;D

That was class 👏

Mikes' Music is really Great
Mike Oldfield ❤❤❤
@Regnberg I sang this while reading it for the first time perfectly, like it was stuck in my head. Amazing those Futurama writers are.
Some lyrics:
Oh, a sailor's life is the life for me
How I love to sail o'er the bounding sea
And I never, never, ever do a thing about the weather
For the weather never ever does a thing for me!
Tim Cross, what a performance
@Funloverdude Thank you!
01:40 - I wish my day job was as fun as that drummer seems to be having! :D
Grande
First class
The second reason Tubular Bells Pt 2 became my fave song! the first being the caveman... which Mike seems to have left out in this version... *cries*
I swear on the next tour they stretched that out and played even faster by the end, but we're talking about 39 years ago, so my memory could be tricking me.
I like it
@8bit4ever Yes you're right. Spot on.
Was hat der Mann für eine Fingerfertigkeit, klasse!
Anyone who would even MENTION justbieber here, should be mouth-breathing somewhere else, jeeeeez
José Roberto Well, you just did so who's the mouth-breather now?
It's like the last night of the proms ...
I love the way the song breaks in at 00:57.
it is him!! o_O
This is one of those videos that's impossible to only watch once.
Anyone else think he looks like Alex from 'A Clockwork Orange' here? XD
Also, amazing performance ^w^
agreed...
Great musishman

... glad that the hornpipe upped the tempo to the point that the hand-claps turned into toe-taps or finger-taps
Welcome to the 80's
at 1:10 he looks bored "Oh my god i've played this SO MANY TIMES"
and at 1:42 I have no idea what the drummer was thinking when he shaved that morning... :D
The pianists shirt would be a fine addition to any wardrobe
@Crandasher Greatest comment ever!
Let's see THIS on the next Guitar Hero.
this is a shanty you dance a jig to whilst out at sea with cabin fever. YAR!
A human incarnation of Animal from the muppets on the drums!
AH HA HA HA! The frets on a mandolin make playing a violin so easy!
🤣
Of course, I know. But those particular lyrics are from the Disney movie.
@nordeide
Awesome lyrics.
Damn, even Mike Oldfield covered fieryrage.
I just read that Tim Cross, the guy on the piano died.
Yes. But not during this performance.
lmao
quite clearly the pianist is Micheal Biehn
@PodMonkeyCWC I thought that this is Tim Cross playing
he looks like hes enjoying the preformance.
YES! I hate it when people in the audience think they should clap in time to the music.
@Dyslexica
That's exactly what I thought.
just majic
he DOES look like Mark Hammil (Luke) but his wardrobe is WAY better. That piano shirt is SWEET! I agree with Stalledrangen 100% tho.
anyone else think the piano player looked a lot like Richard Vranch or whatever from the old series of Whose Line? the ones with Clive Anderson as the host?
Sailor's Hornpipe is at least a century older than the Alice in Wonderland novel, let alone the Disney adaptation.
is that luke skywalker on the piano?!
Pardon my language but this is fucking awesome.
He can't yell, just think that when you yell you relax all yourself, and he fells anything except relaxed. He has to move both hands veeery fast. This is a "strength face", like the one few seconds before.
Very good video, 5 starts.
He wore me out, just watchin'...
bin gespannt :D Vieviele spielen dabei?
Un extraordinario tutorial de "como rallar queso"
Like I say it, Oldfield can fix anything
@Crandasher There might be some Stephen King in the mix. Some kind of three way.
hahahha brilliant
1:14 listen to that alternate picking action
This one seems to be a great song to get tendonitis...
had no idea he plays mandolin. I guess he plays everything haha!
He plays many instruments
He plays mandolin on his most famous album Tubular Bells, the MC even announces it!
He plays everything and another 58 instruments :)
Some lyrics:
D'ya balls hang low? Can you swing 'em to and throw?
Can you tie 'em in a knot? Can you tie 'em in a Bow?
Do you get the funny feeling, that they're hanging from the ceiling?
Oh you'll never be a sailor if you balls hang low.
Hey guys, who the hell is on keys ? What's his name ?
I can play this,
I can almost play it on my piano. This tune is very ancient.
Take it easy Selina weve got all night
This grnious is a monster!
EQUAL SPEED CHARLIE LONDON!!!
