I also use a 6’10” MH for bladed jigs and spinnerbaits and never thought about things the way he explained them but he hit the nail on the head, great advice
We felt the same Adam -- thanks for watching... Rod stuff can be pretty subjective, but for someone looking to learn, Sprague's thoughts are pretty darn grounded in commonsense.
@@Wired2Fish I use a 6'10" moderate fast as well for bladed jigs but for a completely different reason. I use it because I use braid when fishing on my home lake and I felt the moderate fast would reduce the shock between strike and hook set. However I have notices it's gets very tiresome trying to pull my chatterbait out of the thick vegetation with the softer action. Is the longer heavier rod you use a fast action or a moderate fast?
That was really helpful information. I have good luck with a blade bait in the right situations, but always felt like I wasn't throwing it on the correct action rod.
Yeah 6'6" for me so close. I use glass. Fot both. Sometimes i flip the script and use mh 7ft if im using chatterbait like a cross between a jig and a rattletrap
There's no weedguard so more flex will keep the fish from tearing their mouth and throwing the hook. I've noticed that switching to a moderate fast has actually increased the amount of fish I catch for a variety of baits.
Its all about the size of the hook and how thick the wire of hook is. No matter what bait, im generally matching my line, rod power, and hook size/thickness of hook wire. moderate action rods do not have the power to set the hook on any jig besides finesse jigs im my experience. they just flex too much; i fish my chatter baits with a stout medium heavy or heavy action rod. ill even sometimes fish horribly dense wood cover with an extra heavy on 50lb braid to a 20lb leader, the same settup i punch and flip with. Youd be surprised how well a bladed jig fishes through wood, theyre as effective or even more effective than squarebills in heavy laydowns.
The rod you specd out in the description was a 6’10 MH. When viewing that rod it shows to have a fast action. From you bending the rod it looks more moderate. Did you mean the 6’11 Medium?
There are several guys that have said the same thing and then shown a fast action rod. All the charts show a fast action bends 1/3 way down. I'm with you they can't have it both ways or the guys making the rods are giving them the wrong description. BassHQ is the other.
Does the line size stay the same with the shorter rod…is it still 17lb fluorocarbon? I mean because of the structure vs open water ..you said you use 17 like in grass and along the shoreline …most docks would be more clear as far as structure…that’s why I’m asking …I know all situations are different…thank you
For me chatterbaits are my confidence baits for big bass. Like I'm confident the next cast has a 6 or 7 coming up. So ya a longer stronger rod is what I need to know I'm good because I know and believe that big bites coming. I'm ready. That short rod can stay laying down.
In the beginning, I felt one rod would be enough. If im working close skipping docks and under overhanging trees then i must have a rod no longer than 6'6". ( Im short 5'9"). But working grass i want a heavy action s glass with braid . 7'6" 50 or 60 lb braid. Same rod to work across matted grass and drop off the edge. (Homemade chatterbait, no mustache of grass or muck) . Odd winter pattern or cold front jigging a chatterbait i use my heavy action 7 ft with mono 20# big game.

Confused, rod was med heavy power and fast action but you referred to big parabolic bend.
U rarely see bites underwater... that one made this video so much better

This was exactly the intent of the video so glad it was helpful. Good luck out there Aaron!

I like my dobyn xp 735cb glass for bladed jigs and spinner baits
Thanks for sharing the specs on your rod setup Dylan.
I have a Dobyns Fury and is one of the best and versatile rods I've ever owned.
Great setups for almost any situation, thanks for the video!
Great video
Awesome video very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
I would love to know why they use a moderate action rod for chatterbait but not for swimjigs

I seen a snap swivel. Does that effect action?
Thoughts on braid to flouro with a bladed jig?
I miss bass fishing 😅
I thought Glass was the new deal on Chatterbait rods?
Glass is a solid option but the right power and action on a conventional graphite stick gets it done well too.
What SHIMANO reel would you recommend?
Shimano slx xt or dc
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN HUY A LEFT HANDED VERSION I CANT FIND ANY
Check out Tackle Warehouse. Many of the casting reels there come in right and left-handed models.
Nice
Does weird2fish have a company?
Wired2fish is a fishing media company, so yes, we have/are a company.
I do something similar thanks!
I lose way to many fish on a moderate action rod, I like a mod-fast or a fast, i don’t seem to lose any fish with the faster rod, just my opinion
Valid opinion for sure. A lot of good anglers also like a good old conventional 7' medium-heavy. Find what works best for you and run with it!
