Designed for you to see the pose, the Sanskrit and hear the name of the pose with its English translation. It took forever to compile but I hope it is a helpful learning tool for you. I have just completed some for the more advanced postures too. Please subscribe to stay up to date.
A few corrections: (Though different traditions & styles have different pronunciations :0)
1.09 - anJAneyasana (JA - like jacket)
2.51 - parsvOkonasana (O rather than A)
3.03 - praSARita padottanasana (SAR like SARi)
5.00 - SHalabhasana (Like SHell)
I really like the repetition of the name of each pose you have used 3-4 times, it’s very helpful
Repetition is such a great way to learn! Hope some it has stuck for you
Thanks to India for giving the wonderful ayurveda, yoga, Pranayama and meditation (dhyanam) to the world. It has been an integral part of Indian hindu culture for thousands of years.
Thank you for shedding more light on these pose names.
Thank you so much for this. I am currently doing the two hundred hour training. I was having such a hard time pronouncing the Sanskrit Asanas. This has been so helpful.

THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This has been a great help to my yoga teacher training!!!
Oh so happy to help Kate! Hope your YTT's been going well
Many of the Sanskrit names have deeper meanings, which enlighten us further as to the original purpose of each posture, technique, or breathing exercise.
This is quite what I spent some time looking for: yoga poses with Sanskrit or yoga names, rather than only English translation as it is the case with some videos out there. Very informative. Thanks a lot.
still my favorite after many years, I often come back for a relaxing review

9:17 - the "chatarunga dandasana" is sometimes also called "phlankasana" - or plank pose. Forward plank, that is.
Thanks Charles - I'd love to fix a few things in this video but You Tube doesn't allow a "replacement" video as yet, like Vimeo does. I have my fingers, arms and legs crossed, Garuda style, one day! :)
Thankyou very much! this is a great information, god bless you for sharing, I do love yoga and love to share my yoga exercices with others too.
Paschimotanasana ,as our body's frontal portion is described as east and back portion as west i.e.for east in sanskrit/Marathi language it is called "Purw" and For west it is"Paschim" so tension on back i.e. west it is PaschimTanasan clubbed Paschimotanasana.
These videos are amazing! Thank you!

Vanessa
hearing the pronunciation is very helpful!
Kathleen Sutton Her pronunciation has a very strong english accent, she should try to improve it.
Immensely helpful! Thank you!!
You're more than welcome! Hope you've been able to have some fun with it
I think its important to mention that Asana actually means seat, or place where you sit. The "pose" is in a balanced position where the body should be relaxed or sitting. The Vyasasana is the seat where Vyasa or the representative of Vyasa sits. Vyasa, or Vyasadeva is the complier of the Vedanta sutras. Thank you; OM TAT SAT
Very true! A wonderful addition - thanks for adding.
Awesome to hear Antonia, Sanskrit is yoga for the tongue
Thank you. Practicing at least once daily.
go you!

Mem you are a great,
I love u and your all family members
Your yoga is so beautiful mem
It is a good idea to share w people the sankrit names of asanas. However, there are many of them that your pronounce was very wrong. I understand that for english speakers are more dificult, but you should honour the sanskrit by pronouncing them right.
You Tube doesn't allow revisions of videos so I have had to type the corrections in the text below. Sorry you didn't see that. Best wishes
Why don't you insert a back link to your website on top of the text underneath the video. This way people can find out more of what you have to offer. It also increases the listing of your website if you add back links here.
It is not Tadasana, it is Taaaaaaaadasana, please. Please correct your pronunciation.
Aaaaaaaaanjaneya asana (not anjaneyasana). Paaaaarsvottanasana (not parsvottanasana). Uttaaaaaanasana (not utnasana). Your are pronouncing trikanasana, it is Tri kona asana (elongate the o in kona). It is Prasarita Paaaadottanasana (not padottasana). Nata Raja Asana (not natrajasana). I can send you a cd with the correct pronunciation. There are three s's in Sanskrit, but only one s in English.
Namaste mem and all viewers
Thank you!
Love it except that the text is often hard to read and gets lost in the image.
Well, these pronunciations are correct for English speakers. But original pronounciation are more correct in Indian accent. Because the pauses between the pose and sana is missing.
its indian yoga keep it up
Hello,
Firstly it is a nice video, just one thing, I think it is Parivrtta trikonasana, and not parvritta trikonasana.
The great news is you can already do a few of them......Tadasana perhaps? ;0)
Very nice, much wanted due to stupid names like tripod stand etc etc for yoga poses being floating around.
thank you!:)
Thanks lot
saini shab You’re so welcome!
Very helpful
so glad! enjoy!
Thank you so much for this great file - do you think we could get one with twisted poses?
Great idea! I'll pop it on the to do list! xx V
This is a nice attempt... however most of the āsana names are not being correctly pronounced here. It is not useful to use english letters and then draw the line across the top to make it 'look" like davanāgari. I think if you are claiming expertise in something you should have that expertise. This video makes it appear that the speaker is pronouncing the words correctly, however this is not the case.
Hi,i can not find the name in Sanskrit of the asana bird-dog, could you please let me know how is it called? Thanks
Hi Sila, do you mean Parsva Balasana?
Thank you for this
What is the type font you used for the poses? They look nice.
Hello Puja - it is Samarkan Font. sorry for the delay...I hope you've discovered it already!
xx
Vanessa
Being Yoga thank u Vanessa.
I thought tadāsana referred to palm tree and not mountain
Asan not asana. You don't pronounce the last a
Hi,anyone knows the Sanskrit name of bird dog asana? Thanks
Hi Sila - I think it's a tiger pose variation perhaps VYAGHRASANA . I hope that helps!
Thanks for posting this but why use the fake Sanskrit script?
The video is ok but the pronunciation of the names is often off.
good attempt but alot of these have been mispronounced ...
Which ones are pronounced incorrectly
