@@FlyingMAir That isn't the only mod that it has on it. It has a fast-fin, upper and lower tail boom strakes, WiSPS on top with a GPS antenna, a cargo mirror, and a "lean out bubble on the left".
When I was serving in the Air National Guard, we had an Army Guard detachment next to us and they were still flying Hueys. We were able to sign up and go on flights with them and it was awesome...doors wide open and probably totaled around 3 hours for the flight (we landed for about an hour and grabbed a bite to eat). The pilots were great and it was a cool experience! Shortly after, they got rid of their Hueys and got the Blackhawk.
I have always built things in my professional career. If I were wealthy, I have for 50 years known that I would either renovate or recondition a Huey. The most beautiful helicopter and the most awesome sound even now. I also try to imagine what that must have been like seeing them coming towards you after having been in a firefight having met the enemy as a Vietnam soldier.
He had just landed about 20 minutes before so the engine might have been a little warmed up. I shot the first departure, too, but this one was quicker so I used it.
Love the sound of huey starting up, the whine of the turbines, the snapping of the igniters, and the womp when the fuel kicks in. Had to lookup BLR Strakes, and Fastfin. Didn't see the skinny vertical fin and the hump on tail boom till after I googled it. More tail rotor authority, is a good thing. Thanks for the video, it's great.
I'm pretty sure this helicopter saw action in Vietnam. I know the other two at this base have. One of them has the patched up bullet holes to prove it.
Just beautiful! Spectacular scenery and excellent photography, I can almost feel the warmth of that evening sun as I watch your video. I bought some cherries recently (don't know their origin) and as the store owner was talking about cherries I repeated all you had told us about drying them so as to avoid the skin splitting - you should have seen his jaw drop!! - must have thought I was some kind of expert, I had a good laugh about it later.... :-)
Why there always have to be people voting thumbs down??????? I don't see anything wrong with the video, if they don't like it, they just go. That's it!.
I just love the UH1 - such a classic and of course - the sound! (I believe the characteristic "chop'' sound is due to leading edge vortex - most apparent when heli flying towards you) So good to see there are quite a few still flying though wonder if running cost is pretty huge! Enjoyed that, thanks Maria :)
That startup sound gives me goosebumps. Just as a Jet Ranger starting up. Haha the "no smoking" sign on the fuel truck.... what was the first thing that came out of the turbine?
Impressive Maximus, As a Tryna/Will, get in the Air Boy Miself, this is a excellent vid, I'm intrigued learning Minds hav to kno, Wen Spool'in up, Why is there slight forward collective, then back to neutral grasp, wen liftoff, mite be rong words, Correct me if Rong, this is how we Learn,🚁, all comments will be highly appreciated 👍
Oh, jeez. You're right! I don't know how I didn't notice that, but I do know how it happened. It's got to do with the way I rendered the video in DaVinci Resolve -- I rendered "all" audio tracks when I should have rendered the "master" track. UA-cam only allows one audio track so any sound that isn't on Track 1 is removed. I must have put the music on Track 2. Sorry about that and thanks very much for pointing it out. I can't fix it without re-uploading the video as a new title; it isn't worth it just for the music. Don't tell Bob. 😉
I am amazed how far down the forward end the spinning main rotor blade is tilted on start up, almost right up to the moment the pilot begins to lift off, then the whole rotating main blade seems to become more parallel to the ground as one would assume it to be. Excuse the layman's non pilot speak.
The forward tilt of the main rotor disc was caused by him having the cyclic stuck pushed forward farther than usual when starting up. In such a tall helicopter - this one was on extra high skids - this is not a big deal; the main rotor blades are still pretty far from the ground. Before taking off, he pulled the stick back to level the blades, which is required for lifting off straight up.
Why does the pilot appear to be pushing the cyclic forward the whole time right up until take off? Is there are reason to tilt the blade forward during startup?
I wouldn't say typical, but it isn't unusual. The truck isn't that close -- certainly more than a rotor radius away. (It would definitely be unusual to park a fuel truck under the rotor disc.) The video does make it look very close, though!
Privacy, mostly. Although the pilot did not ask me to, I didn't see any reason not to. Unfortunately, there are a few troublemakers (AKA losers) on UA-cam who have nothing better to do than nitpick the way a pilot or helicopter operates and then complain to the FAA. This is not only detrimental to me (and my channel) and the pilots/operators, but it's a waste of time for the FAA. So I've decided to obscure N-numbers on aircraft I video, whenever possible, to prevent this UA-cam losers from making trouble.
@@FlyingMAir - Good thinking. There are a bunch of jerks who just seem to enjoy reporting every little thing. Thank you for the video. The sound of the Huey is fabulous.
Love that bird flew for 6 years and 3 combat tours
Glad you came home safe! This ship probably did see action in Vietnam. I know the other two at this LZ saw action.
unmistakable sound of a Huey ! well cared for ship and love the paint.
With the high skids, it's REALLY tall.

That’s just a wonderful sound. Music to my ears!
Love when the iconic sound kicks in.
There is a good reason why in almost every movie involving a helicopter, no matter what type it is, it's always the sound of a Huey...
Hueys don't fly, they beat the air into submission....
Great video. Even better sound. Thanks..

Wow thats a great paint scheme on such a beautiful bird!
That was very quick. I've seen videos where the startup and liftoff takes, like what seems, forever.

I do miss working with those helicopters. Thanks for sharing this video.
Beautiful. Never tire of hearing this.

Love that sound
That is so nice! 🙌😊 I like that paint scheme also!
Those must be some cherries! Wow, big bird.
Who knew metal "chopping" thru air would sound so beautiful!
I was waiting for the Flight of the Valkyries to start playing in the background. Love the sound of the Huey.
Goosebumps! My fav heli! Dat turbine is eargasmic
Thanks, Maria.
Never gets old........
Best sound in the world ♥️
FREAKING AWESOME !!!

One of the most difficult Helicopters to fly in the world!
Huey. what I learned rotor-wing in. memories. a long time ago.

beautiful chopper!

ChrisB257 plus it’s more noticeable on two blade systems
It's also due to the fact the blade tips are weighted.
love it , thank you
Always wanted a Huey just for the sound alone...

Amazing. 10,000 parts all trying to fly away from each other.
No wonder cherries are so expensive :)
If you thought the R44 was expensive to fly... HAH. Although as Turbines go, the Huey isn't that bad.

Nice video. I wonder, do you do a sprag clutch check on a turbine helicopter too ?
Would think his hourly rate would make it harder to compete. Maybe as much bang for buck with larger down wash
Yes, I wondered about that too.
are they using Huey's on the Cherry crops.
if so isn't that a little Overkill.? :-)
Why does the pilot appear to be pushing the cyclic forward the whole time right up until take off? Is there are reason to tilt the blade forward during startup?
Flashback, Vietnam 1972!
I hope it's not a bad flashback for you.

Oh yeah that's where we left the gas truck.
Is it typical to leave a fuel truck Parked right next to an aircraft that is going to take off?
I wouldn't say typical, but it isn't unusual. The truck isn't that close -- certainly more than a rotor radius away. (It would definitely be unusual to park a fuel truck under the rotor disc.) The video does make it look very close, though!

Maria you always park your Helicopters next to cars! :(
Bad bad bad he has the cyclic too far on forward anyone dumb enough to run in on start would have gor clobbered.
Yeah, especially if that dummy is 7 feet tall. 🙄
Of all the places to park the fuel truck 🤦🏻♂️
