  • REAL and Surfline have teamed up to produce “Under The Glass”, a six episode series documenting Brett Barley’s transition from riding for SUPERbrand for over ten years, to being able to surf anything that REAL Watersports carries in their 1,500 board inventory. The ultimate free agent…
Episode #1 pulls straight into it, covering Brett’s sessions on the …Lost Surfboards Driver 2.0 built in EPS/Epoxy “Light Speed” construction. REAL’s Trip Forman co-hosts the show and breaks down construction and performance in a way every day surfers can understand.
Video and edit by Jeffrey O’Neil.

THAT WAS GREAT! There is some really good info here!! I’m in the process of also shedding my old school ways and getting on with technology!!! I’ve been in a flip tip potatochip for my whole life and realizing how much it’s actually been holding me back!!! The knowledge of how boards are now designed and how it works comes across easily with these two fellas! Looking forward to future episodes and soaking up some knowledge! Thanks guys!!!

Barley is always great to watch. Tripp always asks the best questions regarding the surfer's ride and experience on each and every board. You can tell he's a shredder, too.
But, can someone finally tell us what happened to Super Brand surfboards?

So good to see someone digging a little deeper into the materials and shedding some light on myths and marketing names. Good review

Moved to HB from NC in '88 after high school and WOW has OBX come a long way!. Both REAL and Brett are ultra-legit, so stoked to follow Brett's journey over the years. Great review and after trying numerous boards over the last couple of years I too landed on the Driver 2.0 as my go to fave in nearly all conditions. Brett really nailed it by putting into words what I've been feeling on the board as well. Can't wait to see more, go OBX!!!

Just got the driver 2.0 in poly and completely agree, don't have to think about it. There is absolutely no glitch from rail to rail. Just lay it over and it's got you the whole way. Even in the pu it's spring is amazing. Almost feels like a trampoline as you pump to get speed. All my maneuvers became way easier and the sound of spray is way heavier. I ride a lot of epoxies from Hayden and FireWire and love how fast they are. This board is so fast even in pu I don't miss the epoxy. Curious to try it in lightspeed as well. I have the stock 5'9 at 26 liters and I'm 5'10 and 147. It feels a little over volumed but it doesn't seem to affect performance much. One thing that surprised me was the medium kolohe fins would slip out on me. I usually ride medium fins on my hpsb, but I had to go up to large. Fannings and kolohe both feel good.

Great review. Epoxy is much better than it used to be. The addition of carbon etc has made them much less chattery. As a bigger guy I can’t ride poly anymore. It doesn’t last.

    Hey Tripp,
This is great stuff for all levels of surfing, as the board education and info is paramount in this video. Nice to see this from an East Coast company!!! Hope to be back to play some music for you all sometime. I kind of feel off that I may have missed out on being a part of the REAL brand. I really like what you are doing here! Thanks for helping the surf community in this way! :)

Had the board for 2 years now, manly surfed it in Indonesia 🇮🇩. If it’s really clean with NO wind it’s a perfect board, but as soon it’s a little windy, onshore or offshore it gets hard to handle! Feels a little out of control.
I think the construction give it more range in smaller surf, say all the down to belly high.
Compared to the JS hifly construction it gets heel dents a lot easier.
Looking back I would have preferred the same board in PU.
Anyone else had a similar experience?

Ive found epoxy to be a lot more responsive and I can’t tell the difference out in clean of messy surf

Would love to Brett shred on some mid-lengths and give his review. Someone other than a brand team Rider: e.g. Mid 6…Kevin Schulz/Harley Ingleby.
Most YT board reviewers stick to shortboards and fishes. And midlength reviews by only the brand selling it.
    Thanks!

Yeah when is someone gonna start a YT board review for logs. I rarely ride a log only when it's thi high but I think there's an audience for it and it would be interesting.
