  • This is a review of my 2018 Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic 114. I bought this bike from Harley Davidson of Scottsdale. If you are local, feel free to contact Scott Craig who sold me my bike. This is not sponsored, he was just a cool dude that I would recommend to anyone in the market for a new bike. At this point I have logged 168 miles on this motorcycle and thought it would be a good time to do a formal review of it.

    Good review! I'm actually picking up this exact bike and Color on Friday now that they're more in my price range. Coming from a road glide, I'm looking forward to a lighter Hybrid cruiser for work commute and local trips around town.

    Many thanks for this upload! Im a noob that purchased a heavily modified 2011 Softail Heritage Classic - with zero biking experience. Passed the written MSF test last night, and cannot wait to get my endorsement to get on the road. Cheers!

      My advice to just take it slow. My heritage is my first bike with zero biking experience (except little dirt bikes when I was a kid). Slow speed is where you need to pay attention. I’ve had a few dicey moments and they all came when parking at slow speeds. Or dropping it once when I thought the stand was down but it wasnt fully down. Anyway, enjoy it and ride safe. Congrats!!

    Nice review, I got to test ride the 115th anniversary edition with the 114 engine. I thought it was easily comparable to the road king now. I really enjoy the improved, lockable side bags and added cruise control. Those lights are sick too!

      Anthony's West Texas Rides thanks I appreciate it. I think it’s an awesome bike. I’m very happy I went with this over the Road King. My only other bike of choice would be a street glide special.

    I wrench on 18s and 19s daily.
    The Softail Heritage is one of the best handling , if not, THE BEST handling big-twin motorcycle that H-D currently has. IMO no even the fabled RK can touch it.
    I have had costumers looks at it with doubts about it's size, weight and how they would gel with it only to go for a ride and come back to tell me how amazed they where and taken by surprise at how such a big/bulky bike could handle with such ease(all things considered).
    The only "faults" I find on the Heritage would be the spoked wheels and stock windshield.
    The wheels: I understand that they are part of the look and appeal BUT I hate those things, a pain to clean and a pain to fix a flat in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention that you're supposed to check the spokes tension from time to time. Ain't no body got time for that !
    Windshield: If you're over 6' tall like me you'll need a taller screen OR just remove it completely.
    The wind buffeting with the stock screen is just unbearable, no matter what helmet style you wear. Brain buckets feel better than full face but your head still gets shaken all around like a wobble head toy.

    • @GIGABACHI
      @GIGABACHI 2 роки тому +1

      @@MrPerrogaton I happen to be 6 or 6.2 ft, depending how BAD it's my posture while riding.
      So yeah, you're probably going to get battered around as much as I did.
      Better off without shield and a full face helmet up to 65-70mph.
      Then you become a sail if you go up the MPH and get tired easier/faster.

    Hi Dan, Forget a taller windshield. I just put on some of Jess custom accents wind deflectors and I have gone from an almost horrific experience with buffeting to now feeling like I'm in a car. They are that good. Good luck.

    This channel is a godsend. I’m about to pick up a 114 heritage tomorrow. I too have the RF-SR. Quick question: does the windshield create any buffeting on the top of your helmet? Great video!

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  5 років тому

      I really appreciate the positive feeeback. You won’t regret your Heritage. I love my RF-SR too. I do have a little buffeting at times but it seems to come and go depending how I’m sitting and the weather probably impacts it a bit too. I think I just got used to it really quick and I’m not bothered by it at all anymore. Also, I am someone who is typically incredibly annoyed by stuff like that. If something is making a little noise in my car I will spend a whole day tracking it down if I have to. So for me to say the buffeting isn’t too bothersome means it can’t be that bad haha.

      William Hyland thanks I appreciate it. That’s one thing I think most reviews miss is how you look on the bike. Nothing wrong with a street bob. I think we all get the feeling we should have bought another bike. I keep seeing street glides and thinking I should have gone street glide special. If I did that I would wish I got a CVO. It’s never ending (until you get a CVO and run out of options to want)

      They all do, roll the throttle forward for 10 sections with the bike off in accessory mode and you will see the cruise control light flash green or orange. If it’s green it’s on if it’s orange it’s off. Mine works really well but it only activates when the engine gets hot enough to need it.

  • @alanbriggs7177
    @alanbriggs7177 6 років тому

    Got one, love it, but two flaws: ridiculous design of the panniers, and shock absorber adjustment.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  6 років тому +1

      I don’t mind the panniers. I think they are a million times better than the older leather bags. They could improve but I’m happy they aren’t the old ones. It would have been nice if they made the shock adjustable by hand like the other softails or at-least made the adjuster longer so it was accessible from the exterior. Otherwise I love this bike. I also think they should have left the fake cap on the left off the bike, I hate fake things. It’s like modern Toyota’s with massive grilles that make it look like a V8 needing a ton of air but in reality it’s a fake grille with no airflow. If it’s not fooling me, its making me angry.

    • @alanbriggs2263
      @alanbriggs2263 5 років тому

      I can live with the fake cap. To me that's part of the Heritage design motif. If you hate the spare cap do you also hate the strap that goes down the middle of the tank, to hide the non-existent weld? I got my bike, did 300 miles and then had to go away for the whole of August for work. We don't get too much great weather in England, and I've spent the majority of the summer away. Still, no work, no Harley. Look forward to watching your next vid.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  5 років тому +1

      Alan Briggs I don’t mind the leather strap so much because it creates a line that flows down the tank and it’s a good place to set things while I’m gearing up without scratching the tank. So it does have a function for me but it is a little goofy, not as goofy as a fake cap though (just my opinion). I appreciate you watching, safe riding whenever you get back to your bike. It is an awesome motorcycle!!!

    Great review and gorgeous bike. I have an '07 Softail Springer and love it, but looking at this, maybe you can send that guy who tried to steal your bike over to Texas to steal mine and I'll get a new one. :-) Seriously though, I love your reasoning for what you like, especially for a millennial (no disrespect intended), who don't typically go for the old school anything. Ride safe and stay cool if possible in Arizona.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  6 років тому +1

      Thanks!! I still don’t consider myself a millennial since I’m 35 but I fall into that category statistically so I have to accept it. Ultimately I think Harley needs to retool the touring line as much as they did with the softail line to get younger guys more interested. They need more tech integration and a little more refinement than what the older generation was into in my humble opinion. Nothing wrong with what the old guys like and nothing wrong with what the young guys want... it’s just a matter of marrying the two together without making everyone mad. Also, I don’t think my thieves travel, you will have to rely on your local thieves.

    • @marktaylor8659
      @marktaylor8659 6 років тому

      Agree HD needs to do something to attract a younger generation, but I don't think there's an easy answer. I'm glad I don't have to figure that out. I'm a bit of a new rider as well and at 60, I've only been riding 7 years. I started with a Sportster 48 which I really loved, but at 6' and long legs, it just felt too small. I think that bike and the Nightster were attempts to get some younger riders. Maybe as you say, more tech integration and some refining will be the ticket. Take care.
