This planner has been a big help with me getting organized for a cruise in September. I've always been a last minute packer but with the checklist and your links I have almost everything I need and want. Now the anticipation of the cruise is all that's left. Thank you for thinking of us all.

Brings lots of $1s, $5s, $10s. In fact, at the end of your cruise on the last sea day, I carry $5s and $10s and maybe one $20 in my wrist bag. I gift those certain very attentive crew members with money in their hands and thank them for their service and care personally. This is over the regular gratuity we always pay. I have heard that they get off to go to Walmart and come back with lots of personal stuff. This is my way of helping them be more comfortable while away from home for so many months.

As a person that gets seasick in a hot tub.....I can attest to this suggestion. Take a dose of seasick medication the evening before you get on the ship and one the morning you em-bark. Then a dose daily. Scuba dove for 20 years and did this religiously. Never was sick. -Joy

Insurance agent here- something really important to consider is if you are taking valuable jewelry with you- MAKE SURE if you are traveling with it that you have it listed on your homeowners/ renters policy. If it’s over 1k in value it should be listed as it’s own item on your insurance, because most insurance companies will cover mysterious disappearance if it gets stolen etc… or just don’t bring it. Just something to consider when taking items of high value.

Great tips. Another thing, since I just turned 70, I don’t leave home without bandaids. If I scratch my arm or cut myself, the older I get the more thin and sensitive my skin becomes and bleeds easily, so bandaids are a must have. I make up a first aid kit with anything medical I think we may need. Besides bandaids, I pack Tylenol, Ibuprophen, Extra Strength Excedrin, antiseptic cream, cloth tape, gauze, alcohol wipes, throat lozenges, Mucinex, etc. i will have to find out about the extension cord for my husband’s C-Pap machine. He doesn’t use water in it, so we don’t have to deal with that, but the extension cord, yes. It’s a pain getting old and having to take your house with you when you travel!😅

I see Ginger candy is listed for seasickness. I find that $0.99 worth of raw ginger from the grocery store works just as good. A single edged razor blade lets you slice off paper thin slices that you suck on for a few minutes then chew up and swallow. That is the only thing I've found that works for me.

Since luggage often doesn't get to the cabin early enough, I always wear a comfortable sundress or shift on embarkation day. That way I go to dinner feeling more put together, if I don't have time to change, and also cuts down on packing an extra outfit.

Meeting your Room Stewards on Day 1: We put a small paper bag on our bed with our Room Stewards names on it (from their card) when we went to dinner on the first night. It had items for 2: packages of spicy nuts and wrapped candies. Yes, we did get these things before we embarked the ship. We have learned over the years that Indonesian and Philippine crew members like hot/spicy foods! Also on the last sea day, we have a printed message that I hand write a personal message and cash for them.

I would definitely say a bathing suit and/or change of clothes is helpful. On my first cruise I flew to the port on embarkation day. It took forever to get my luggage delivered. At the sail away party I was still dressed on a hot Florida afternoon in the same long sleeve shirt and long pants I had been wearing since 4AM that morning. I watched people who were better prepared splash in the pool. I learned my lesson. The next time I had to fly on embarkation day I had a suit and a sundress with me.

We bring one carryon size suitcase and one tote and always wheel our bags on and off. It’s a great timesaver and allows us to unpack as soon as we get into the stateroom and not stress about when the bags will arrive. I used to be the person who had to bring everything I owned on a cruise, two changes of clothes for each day and many pairs of shoes. I got over that and I’m so much happier and more relaxed now.

@@Lulu-kt6gr If you pack light, focus on a color scheme so items are mix and match, limit the number of shoes you pack and plan to either use the guest laundry if they have one or send out some items to be laundered you should be fine. Rick Steves has some awesome videos on packing. I took a 29 inch hard size case and a tote to Italy for two weeks and had no issues. You can always launder your unmentionables in your cabin too.

I now pack a foldup walking cane in carryon. A small battery fan is good if hot outside along with a sunhat and that sunscreen. I put the fan on bedside stand at night so get a little airflow. Disposable Colgate small toothbrush w paste packs easily in purse or carryon. A stain remover wipe and a few wet wipes always get used. I always carry a tiny empty water bottle that can be filled when get off airplane to take meds.

I have a joint condition and it's made walking in a stable way next to impossible at times, and in my mid-thirties, I found myself taking a cane on board a few years back. What a great idea to invest in a folding walking cane! To pack just in case my hips decide (because lord know -I- don't get to lol) to "go out" on me, making me a shuffling hobbling, falling mess. (I'm not quite to wheelchairs!) I love the tiny water bottle idea, too! And I already have a tiny battery fan for my cruises, so great minds think alike!

I always bring candy when I travel, but the importance of snacks for embarkation day was highlighted when Homeland Security had to get involved before boarding one of our cruises which delayed things by 5 hours or so. Clearance was eventually given for them to bring us snacks off the ship, but the early boarding crowd that would normally get lunch on board effectively missed a meal. Please don't forget your snacks cause anything can happen!
Cruise was with Disney out of Port Canaveral, 7 day Western Caribbean back in 2007, rumor had it social security numbers didn't match when scanning checked baggage onto the ship.

California Linda shares I always bring snacks. I enjoy active excursions and I want to be sure I have power bars, trail mix and a few of my favorites such as scottie dog licorice and favored popcorn for "Movies Under the Stars". Often your favorites are not available on the ship or port, although the International Cafe has great selections. I always bring a three dozen bakery selection of chocolate chip cookies, brownie cookies and peanut butter cookies with a dipped edge in chocolate for my husband. I just booked my first cruise on NCL for 2023. I'm in the process of going through all the various videos so I can ensure that my trip is smooth and I'm not missing anything.
As I was watching your videos, you were taking about the lady who lost all her jewelry. Has anyone considered bringing really nice costume jewelry?? That way you can lose and it won't break the bank if you do lose it. The same with certain shoes. Sneakers and such, I just buy a cheap comfortable pair (less than $20) to walk around in. I just bought a simple pair on sale at Walmart for $7.00. Right now they are clearing their inventory to make room for back to school. I picked up a few items for my cruise in 8 months...lol! Saves me the hassle of rushing to find stuff and I can plan accordingly.
Also you vent reminded people in this video that if they bring wine on-board to NOT forget to bring a corkscrew. They can get a simple at dollar tree or buy wine with a screwcap (my personal favorite)!!!
Thank you so much for these tips. They are really helpful for seasoned traveller's like myself who's causing for the first time.
    Keep 'em coming!!

I came to my senses 30 years ago regarding expensive jewelry. I was flying to my grandmother's house to prepare it for sale after her death. It dawned on me while I was on the airplane the dollar value of jewelry that I was wearing. My thought was if this plane crashes my children won't have any of this jewelry to inherit. Plus, since I was connecting in JFK Airport my next thought was I'm a prime target to get mugged. I stopped wearing expensive jewelry. Also a wise woman once said to my cousin if people assume you have the income to buy expensive jewelry, then go out and buy the custom jewelry, because those people will think it's real gems. Lol!

You can even have the cruise line punch a hole in your key card to hook onto your lanyard instead of placing it inside the plastic protective pouch. Remember every time you purchase something onboard the ship, or order a drink I'm bored the ship, you have to give them your card, and it's a lot easier if it's on the hook

Thank you for all your helpful information. Not knowing what to expect on embarkation day taking something to eat is a very good point because we will both need to take medication at a certain time and I definitely can’t take mine on an empty stomach or I’m sick! One of mine has to be taken a certain time apart from each dose and another if I take it too late I get restless leg. Having something to eat is not always to do with hunger pangs but necessity. I was also wondering about needing extra sockets/charging points and knowing about non surg charging block is a great help. QUESTION: can you take straighteners? Congrats on this being your full time job now, well done 👏🏻🚢⚓️

My daughter-in-law and son went on a cruise while she was still nursing her baby. The cruise ship gave her a fridge/freezer to put in their room for milk that she pumped. When they left the cruise, they packed the milk in ice, etc. When they were on the plane they saw their luggage going up the ramp, leaking all the way.

When it comes to medical equipment like the cpap machine. I recommend calling rather than emailing . I personally have a ton of food allergies and found it hard to communicate my needs via email. Because it was a lot and I wanted to make sure they understood what I’m trying to say. When I gave them a call they were able to put it on I guess “my profile” or “cabin notes”. As even certain scents can set off my allergies. And it was easy took me only 30 minutes plus 10 for the wait.

Pack your own extension cord to be on the safe side. More and more people of all ages are now on CPAP machines. The cruise line could run out of loaner extension cords. Also Carnival now charges you to provide distilled water to you on board the ship. You can bring your own distilled water for your CPAP machine, or you can purchase distilled water from them. Since we're already bringing on wine and soda, we did not feel like lugging distilled water as well. The cost for one gallon of distilled water on Carnival with our local tax was $3.54. So this is about a 200% markup over the cost of buying the distilled water at Walmart. However, it is convenient. Now if it only shows up on embarkation day.

I duct tape every bottle of anything partially liquid, and put in zip lock bags (sun screen, liquid soap, etc). It has become second nature after having someones perfume leaked all over (and ruining)my stuff. The duct tape is easy to set aside and reuse on return.

I went on a cruise once with a friend who wasn't a typical drinker, but she got the idea that she was going to indulge on this particular trip. Soooo, she packed a glass bottle of pre-made strawberry margarita 🤦🏻‍♀️ in her luggage. She made it on the ship but didn't drink it, and instead of just dumping it out and leaving it behind she packed it up again and took it home. Somewhere along the way back the bottle busted open and when we got her luggage off the carousel it was soaking wet, and as we walked away there was a trail of stinky, sticky, bright red busted margarita following her every step. 😅

I have had my checked luggage confiscated with my 2 allowed bottles of wine in it. (I take bubble wrap with me and wrap the bottles- so far so good as far as leakage or breakage. We use it for liquor or wine that we buy duty free for coming back to Canada) Most cruise lines want you to have it in hand as you board the ship. Rules regarding this change all the time, so what applies one cruise may not by the time you take another cruise.

Questions...if your laptop/purse are in your carry on and you have just boarded early...what do you do with it when you are swimming at the pool? Or can you leave those safely in your room after boarding? Even if your suitcase has not yet arrived? Also are there always safes?

I have done 2 Holland America cruises and loved them!! The Niew Amsterdam for Christmas was the best and they exceeded my expectations so much. It was only 6 months old and so beautiful! So in 2 weeks we are trying Princess for Christmas. I'm not expecting it to be as great as HAL. We have done 27 cruises and I still get great new information from you! Thanks! One last thing along with gifts for great service. We bring candy, coloring books, and regular books to hand out to island and Mexican children. It makes us happy and their parents won't take them away like they would money they might get. Especially now it's Christmas I hope we meet kids who might not receive anything for Christmas! I'm a dental hygienist so I even give out toothbrushes and toothpaste occasionally.
