I came across a video recently where I noticed Steve had his hands really low in the backswing, an absolute no no from any golf coach. I had a search through his videos and found this. I think I watched this around 6 or 7 times this week, and then after work yesterday popped over to my golf club. I got a small bucket of balls on the range and did some half swings with a 50 deg wedge, the ball was flying. I went up to 8 iron, and was purring it. So I popped onto the course to play 9. I'm a 17 h'cap which means i get 9 shots on the front 9 at my club. I went round one over h'cap, but that doesn't tell the story of how i played. Adopting this style of swing, my tee to green was really good. The reason for the score was 3 x 3 putts and one 3 off the tee!! So i reckon i left 5 shots out there, which meant my 46 could have been a 41. The biggest difference for me was driver. I struggle, and i mean, STRUGGLE with a big high fade, some would call a slice. All of a sudden the ball was going left!! A simple change to open the club face a touch saw me hit some of the purest drives in years. I even hit a 240 drive into wind!! I'm back out tomorrow morning for the full 18, and if I can putt, I might really start to see some results.
I’ve been watching and have been super confused by the many pros on You Tube, and I’ve concluded that Steve Johnston’s videos are the clearest, simplest and best for the average golfer. It’s all about path. I’ve been so confused about hinge, hips, grip etc that I find myself constantly experimenting with combinations that are not effective. When i have a reasonably strong grip, keep it simple and stay on path, I get the best results. Thank you Steve
More specifically, the low hands, below yellow cane, think baseball (which I played in high school) caused a light bulb to go off. In baseball, you want your swing to be “short” for max power. That means shortest hand path to the ball, elbows close to body (like a punch) and extension. It’s just a nearly horizontal path standing upright. Bend over a bit and the same concepts apply in a different arc! Right?
Low key this video reminds me what I’m struggling with in golf. I literally just watched a video yesterday from another well respected teacher that teaches his students to open up the trail elbow and to stop keeping it stuck to your side. When I swing like this video instructs, my ball striking is awful and feels terribly uncomfortable. I guess everyone’s body is different but all this does is make me realize I need an in person teacher lol
I’ve always felt more comfortable with low hands on the way back. I’m short and bring the club across my chest, a bit lower than you. Less dispersion, more distance. I’ve also found that a shorter backswing with arms straight gives me just as much distance with more accuracy. Had to play an entire round like this to prove it to myself. Right on brother!
I definitely use this style with my wedges, because the wedges are more of a finesse shot. My accuracy from 100 yds in is great. But, having my trailing elbow raised high at a 90 degree angle in the back swing just works better for me. I get much more power, distance, and apex on the all. Great video!
Changing the 'feel' that my back swing was swinging round waist high (reality use it isn't that low) , changed my consistent out to in shots to in to out and a baby draw from a consistent slice.
Hi Steve. I too have Rheumatiod Arthritis. It hit me about 3 years ago and after a couple of months, I couldn't hold a club, and it was painful to even walk. Once diagnosed I was prescribed Methotrexate - one tiny pill per week with amazing results! Are you on the same? I came across your videos about a year ago and everything you say is true. Your Eurika method gives me a great strike and more consistency. I've been playing golf for 57 years (now age 67) and played of 3 in my 20's. I dropped 3 shots this year (11 to 8.5) and am aiming to get back to 6 next year. Thank you!!
This is how i used to swing, but I was told that the swing was to low. But it was a very safe swing. I´m going to test it again. Maybe i´ll reach + hcp next year 🤞
I can vouch for a lower swing plane. When I do this, I feel like the clubhead is rotating around my body better, and I am avoiding an over-the-top move. Thanks.
Another brilliant video steve. Quick question can u talk about your grip? I have been working on this shortening my backswing. Might be a little cupped at the top but feels more natural to me. Thanks again I truly appreciate all your videos.
Played 18 yesterday for the first time in a while and a lot of my shots were fading/slicing, my playing partner said I had a very steep down swing. This video is exactly what I need as know I chop down. Off to the range this weekend. I assume this applies to all full shots, not chipping.
Hi Steve thank you for all your videos.im a big 50 on Saturday and loving my golf but I'm really struggling. I feel I do get the handle ahead of the ball ok but I struggle with my long irons.i usually hit a good drive and my second shot with long irons seem to be pretty much pin high only to miss the greens left then struggle to make par.i would love for my birthday if you could please fo a video for me on how I could fix this problem.thanks and merry Christmas 😊
I love this tip 👍🏻 Lower arms, “over the cane … under the cane” I find my swing is more consistent, and surprisingly more powerful, swinging easier (with full shoulder turn) and pausing ever so slightly at the top of the backswing. But I have a question: Can you swing TOO FLAT? That is, too level to the ground? Hands lower, but club on plane? 🤔
The right elbow seems to be key. When I geht my right elbow in front of my body my face is square and back of my hands🤔When my right elbow turns a bit behind my body in downswing the shaft gets steep and often I have contact at the heel🤔So should I concentrate on my elbow perhaps? Tried it for a long time with poor results by the way
I'm a short guy, LOL-- when my hands are low, I get no distance and block lots of shots right. Plus I saw a video; Butch Harmon said a short person should have high hands. Not saying you are wrong! :)
Watch all your stuff. This one is interesting. You show the hands above the shoulders which is totally wrong for all the right reasons. When you do this the trail arm comes out of it ball and socket joint and your arms become disconnected from your core or ribcage. No way for amateurs to save their swings at this point. The arms are meant to swing under the top of the shoulders which very people understand yet ever do. Nice 👍🏻
I believe I have a shallow back swing, according to the PGA pros that I play with ( I’m being sarcastic ) they tell me I’m “incorrect” however I tend to come out on top more often than not when we play ….
Wow! quite revolutionary. I was a +2 handicap and since I tried swinging around my arse like you, I'm now +7. So grateful I've shaved 5 shots off my score.
I realise we are trying to keep it in play etc etc.. but the long drive dudes and dudettes go the other way with this one, one of the things they talk about it is increasing the length of the hand path to apply more force to the handle for speed/distance

Thanks Dan. I appreciate your comments. Thanks for your support👍

Brilliant Stevie 👏
All the best

These videos are not subdued. They are so relaxing with the soundtrack and informative with choice of courses. Absolutely love watching them
Awesome thanks👍👍👍
I am addicted to your lessons . My game is improving gradually as I am watching your videos. Please keep it up.
You make it look easy Steve.

Really like your way of swing. It is so simple.
Thank you. Can’t wait to try.
Thank you Steve best wishes for Christmas and New Year
Thanks Derek👍
Steve. Rocks enjoying enjoying your work
Thanks for the gift.
Brillant. Many thanks for taking the time to make this vid. Very informative indeed
Glad it was helpful!
Changing the 'feel' that my back swing was swinging round waist high (reality use it isn't that low) , changed my consistent out to in shots to in to out and a baby draw from a consistent slice.
Great news, well done
Sweet swing. I’ve already started trying this and for me it’s working out. I tend to be steep and am inconsistent. I’ll keep practicing this
Let me know how you get on 👍👍
Steve do you feel the right arm leading in downswing?
I like it! We are not on tour! So much stress trying to swing like a tour pro!
How fare away is the aligmnent stick ?
Merry Christmas. Your videos have been helpful for me.
Glad to hear it!
Brilliant video I'll definitely try it out tomorrow at my local driving range thanks for sharing Steve
No problem Harry

Steve’s advice is similar to Tom Saguto in Florida.Much flatter and more inside. It works…..
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks
I’ve done this. Now I’m older. It’s easy to get into that slot. A bit drawy I found at first but so much more consistent.
MERRY CHRISTMAS STEVE ! GREAT TIP
Same to you!
Nice one Steve. Merry Christmas 🎄
Same to you!

Happy new year Steve
Happy New Year👍👍👍👍
Nice one Steve 🙌 your my new go to guy
Great vids Steve , where did you get the mat from ??
Can you make a video showing how club exits low from inside ?
Keep making content. Don’t give up.
Good vid thanks for the tip. Are you in Scotland? Looks beautiful over here!
Yes I am!
I can vouch for a lower swing plane. When I do this, I feel like the clubhead is rotating around my body better, and I am avoiding an over-the-top move. Thanks.
Good stuff!
Inside to inside swing is the new way to swing the club. Is that you are saying?

What is the guidance of how low to go? My coach asked me to go higher!
Hey Steve, can a Eureka skull cap be ordered? I didn’t see them in the Merch Shop.
Not yet😉

I love this tip 👍🏻
Lower arms,

But I have a question:
Can you swing TOO FLAT? That is, too level to the ground?
Hands lower, but club on plane? 🤔
Are you releasing the golfclub with your hands or by turning your body (rotating) and your hands stay passive?
Is it correct that your body is a touch upright but your knees have a bit more flex which allows the effortless lower swing plane?
Squat?
Steve,
Works for everything except long irons and low hands makes for loss of needed high shots
How do you correct?
The right elbow seems to be key. When I geht my right elbow in front of my body my face is square and back of my hands🤔When my right elbow turns a bit behind my body in downswing the shaft gets steep and often I have contact at the heel🤔So should I concentrate on my elbow perhaps? yes, dropping the hands in the slot is very difficult
I'm a short guy, LOL-- when my hands are low, I get no distance and block lots of shots right. Plus I saw a video; Butch Harmon said a short person should have high hands. Not saying you are wrong! :)
Great tip very easy to understand...he sounds like caretaker willie from the Simpsons
and the best thing on this swing is, that you come always from the inside!
Welcome to the Ben Hogan golf swing 😉

Exactly!!!
Wow! quite revolutionary. I was a +2 handicap and since I tried swinging around my arse like you, I'm now +7. So grateful I've shaved 5 shots off my score.
Nice one👍
Huuhhh??
My short swing is faster than my full swing.
Exactly
What!!! I’ll be a plus 8 handicap🤣

How many long drivers are watching this video?
Sure way to hit a shank being that flat
@@adamwade2054 okay, thanks for that
No, no , no.
