It also has to be pointed out that even though stores like magi post these absurd buy prices that they will not always honor them if you actually went into the store and tried to cash out. There have been many reports of people selling being low-balled due to the stores being super anal and saying that their cards weren't mint. Meanwhile, if the store does end up buying the card, they'd list it for sale as being as pristine as they come. The twitter posts never stop coming though and most people will never realize some of these prices aren't even real. Who is actually buying these cards at these prices? If and when people actually start doing their research, the bubble could very well pop. And boy are the less informed going to be in for a rude awakening.
That’s the thing, some of these sales and store prices are moving though, not all and I will agree with you, but eBay sales are up and pricier, card store prices are up and pricier, and more and more people are justifying picking up high price trainers. Miriam is a prime example of that to a smaller extension
@@OpossumBud If everyone buys into the hype and starts drinking the Kool-Aid then yeah, prices are going to go up and stay that way cause now they're justified by actual sales data. All people had to do was see through the nonsense these stores are trying to pull instead of playing into their hands and it would've been fine. It's unfortunate because it's a situation that preys on and takes advantage of the most passionate and addicted collectors who will open their wallets for the goods even if they are being scalped. So refreshing to hear someone doesn’t care about the value of their collection. I’ve stopped following most Pokétubers who flash up card worth or discuss “investing.” It’s a game, the cards are meant to be accessible. Value is fine, of course certain cards should be worth more than others, but when a children’s game has been turned into a greedy monster market it’s upsetting. People complained about the Trainer Gallery and how the pulls were so common the cards weren’t worth as much, but that’s exactly what Pokémon needs to do to battle all these greedy “investors” taking advantage of people. I’ve switched to English full art trainers since they are usually much cheaper, these guys selling Japanese will no longer be getting my money. I secretly hope the Scarlet and Violet era is so stacked with pulls that the value of everything drops by half. That’s the only way I see Pokémon being able to fight this trend. Nice video, keep it up! They need to get called on their crap.
I don’t care I will love these cards regardless of the price and honestly a lower price would just help me fill out the binder more 😁 i appreciate ya truly 🙏🏽

I’ve been exclusively collecting Japanese cards for a few years now and this is so aggravating to see. I have switched my collection focus to EX series holos and WOTC because I can’t keep up financially with these new sets. I am curious about one thing though; how could Pokémon step in to fix this issue, other than printing more?
Change how they ship product, put more people in place that directly work for Pokémon to distribute it better and enforce an MSRP at least in first legs… if a store breaks that don’t supply them anymore 👍🏽
I stopped selling on my ebay cuz some dude decided to immediately try to flip some slabs for more the same day he received them and Lord. I know I can't control people, but that just forced me to stop selling for low prices and to hold on to my stuff. I'm bummed that there's flippers and businesses willing to quickly exploit a deal, but I know I ain't selling any of my stuff for a while. Also ngl, Plasma Gale Skyla, one of my favorite cards, I was thankful to get for 80$ before this. Appreciate your time! Keep working hard!! Market Manipulation Sucks 🤬
Yeah and that’s why I don’t sell to other people unless I know for sure they will keep them of gift them… I don’t want my cards to contribute to the prices… sorry to hear that and thank you friend 😁🙏🏽
Manipulation and scalpers haven’t hit older bw/xy full art trainers yet. Remember they are much more rare than anything from recent era. Many such as the original full art Juniper, Bianca, Pokémon center lady (joy) and Skyla are now cheaper and much more affordable than the new waifu trainers yet they are much more rare. It shows how dumb some of this money is.
I won’t be at collect a con in Orlando this month, I’ll be at the Atlanta comic con but my guess is there’s going to be an influx of Japanese trainers for sale by vendors. Anyone attending that show and having these cards pushed on them at the “influencer” price I hope they realize they are the buyer , they have all the leverage just walk away from those tables if they’re not comfortable with the price.
Since I was a kid, I made a list of all the cards that I wanted to get in the future when I have money like some of the cards you showed in the video. But even thou i now have the money it just feels like a scam to buy some of these cards at their current price points after remembering what they used to cost. At least it's allowed me to focus on my vintage pickups.
It basically is a scheme at the minimum… that’s sad to hear man I know a lot of cards people wanted are now out of peoples price range and it’s mostly the second hand markets fault but they want no hand in accountability in it 😐
Thank you for the content bud. I'm always looking forward to your videos since they are very informative and bring awareness to these shady dealings. It's honestly sad to that people manipulate the market which makes it harder for players, genuine collectors, and new collectors to obtain cards or products with either overpaying or being scammed. This community appreciates you, keep up the good work.
its funny cus i live in tokyo, and i live next to one of these magi stores. its insane how expensive these cards are at their store AND the worst thing about it is that PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY BUYING THESE CARDS. So unfortunately itll be a contiuing thing going on. But the its not even the staff doing it its the business department doing them. I usually buy decent vintage cards for a good price and save or sell them.
Damn Oppossum! You should start charging people to share your knowledge,😉😉you called this annnnnnnd you got the big poke pockets hitting you up, thats all the qualifications needed for $69 an hour baby!!! But for real great video boss
Great vid, man. The prices alone should make people go "Wait, wut?!?!" but your vid really drives it home. What these stores are doing is pretty bold, since they could be left holding some hefty bags. If they pull it off though, if they succeed... well, hats off to them. I think what they're doing is slimy but if there's that many suckers out there that think these prices are organic and buy into it all, so be it.
I hate how far this whole price manipulation has gone on for. At least there are still some nice cards you can at a decent price like the red and blue tag team card from alter genesis, I got it recently for about 24.99 USD
It’s frustrating how much Japanese cards are going for now…after vstar universe I don’t even look anymore. I bought a few single and said I’ll wait till crown zenith.
I’ve collected Japanese Pokémon Cards since the UA-cam days of WakeRunCollapse. The appeal was quality, availability, and Japanese price vs. English price. It’s crazy how the Waifu Supporter game drastically changed with Sun & Moon Ultra Prism. The game has definitely changed!
I think of the 3 categories you mentioned the business/make money one is WAY more than we realize and it’s affecting the market more than it ever has in Japan now. Too many influencers using community/love of Pokémon as a front while they try to get every dollar they can
I have a Japanese Full Art Erika's Hospitality from Tag Team GX All Stars that I opened up a few years ago. Where would be best to sell it other than ebay?
Just came back from about a 5 month break from buying/collecting. Wanted to buy a couple more cards I wanted but now I'm completely priced out. Going back to english is kinda annyoing, but I'm pissed about my japanese exclusives being way overpriced. Even random cards are massive now.
Just found this chanel and I love the bluntness of the reality of what is going on with the Japanese cards. Heck stopped collecting due to the "premium" prices. See another of japanese people selling on FB for x2 or 3x for a box of the new set. Ship even the new one that is coming out is SCALPED like CRAZY and it hasn't even come out yet. People need to chill etc a real job stop destroying the hobby! Love your vids man👍🏼
You're actually pretty funny and fun to watch. It reminds me more of when I collected cards heavily and played the game. I'm more of a game collector now, but I think your content is great.
Yeah, it wasn’t always like this, lol. It’s like the scalping craziness we experienced in 2020-2021 is just now hitting Japan. Japanese modern always used to be a cheaper alternative. Not any more
The way you can tell the difference is the stores and how much money they will throw at you. Before the “demand” went up trainers were up but not like this. The prices have blown gold stars, shinies, zards, and other collection staples like alt arts out of the water. This is people trying to get you to sell them your cards for a quick cash flip imo
@@OpossumBud we’ve taken in some Japanese trainers (Iridia, worker (ultra modern) for store credit and then sold on eBay back to Japan from Canada. Our local collectors want to keep the pokemon and give up the trainers and act like English collectors. For the prices sold back to Japan - there has got to be strong demand too to support this.
I speculate that because Japanese cards are now covering two huge markets of both the US and Japan even more in the US than they did before, that these certain cards have been almost randomly selected as the "most expensive" for both markets. So now you don't only have Japanese buyers competing for them but US as well.
I believe it is the case, in the past people who were only interested in Japanese cards were Japanese people and some niche collectors/competitors. Japan then printed to demand, I remember prices being pretty cheap for booster packs, singles, and boxes. There was also a rule in competitive Pokemon in pre-2009 season that foreign language cards were allowed according to the judge's discretion (now you have to use a card printed in the local language, so in the US only English, in the EU, French, German, English, in Japan, well Japanese), meta Japanese cards were about 20% of the value English cards were. That changed when there were several incidents of people saying that the "translation" of the card was different in a foreign language. But nowadays the Japanese market needs to satisfy the demand for not only the local Japanese market but also the markets outside of Japan. Add to import costs which is a supposedly "justifiable" price increase if you are buying overseas.
Another amazing video my dear friend... and I have to agree with you whole heartedly. This is the definition of market manipulation. I don't collect Japanese, they're great but I don't collect them and this is just ensuring I won't start. These shady investors that are selfishly inflating and manipulating the market should not be looked at as community members. In order to be a community member, you have to give a shit about the community. These investors don't and their actions say that. Manipulating the market like this proves that you care more about money than you do about the community. I'm what you'd call a collector/long haul investor. I won't be selling a single card (besides doubles) until I retire while keeping my faves until the day I go in the ground. I thought that's how you properly invested while being part of a community. Best wishes good sir. Hope you have an awesome day and happy belated anniversary!!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch this even though you don’t collect Japanese, and it’s crazy that the way people see this and the different ways the community goes 😐 thank you 🙏🏽
@@OpossumBud Hey man, I watch to learn and to support. You've taught me a lot over these past 2.5 years. Not to mention, just because this is happening with Japanese cards doesn't mean they won't try it with English in a future set or Gen. Mad respect my guy
I just collect for fun, been doing it since I was 9 but I have a full art Erika’s Hospitality from Tag Team All Stars that I got for a little over $200 at the time. That’s insane how much they’re charging for it, yikes.
It makes wonder if people from the states will flood these cards in the Japanese market when Pokémon worlds takes place since people want to get them and sell them.

The scalping and 3x 4x markups have completely turned me off from collecting Japanese pokemon and collecting pokemon in general. After signing up for tenso account, buying a few jpn products like sleeves and a playmat.. shoulda just bought boxes of cards in retrospect of what little they did have available at the time. Im sure pokemon go is still up there even that wouldve been better than the stuff i got. Ugh so dumb. Anyway i thought maybe purchasing a few things would help my chances in the lottery... i see endless amounts of jpn booster boxes and product on Instagram so Im sure I can at least win 1 of 3 lotteries. Nope. Have lost the lottery to purchase scarlet, violet, and triple beat. Should have just bought what i wanted from Ebay
The demand for these cards is worldwide. Im kicking myself for not picking up more of these cards i enjoy especially the Kouki Saito full art illustrations.
I never understood the hype of the Japanese cards until I got one, the Marnie FA from Shiny Star V, and the textures, the feel, the subtle details in the card are so much better than the English counterpart. It was love at first sight
I remember being told that my Japanese cards were fake when I had some of the Japanese gym set cards back in like 98. I have always thought they looked way better than the English cards and were just better quality all the way around. It's wild to see them become more popular at this point when they have been the better product this entire time. Great video, dude.
@@OpossumBud oh I know my guy I'm just messing. I just feel for the real japanese collectors like you. I only collect certain pokemon in Japanese so I'm not as affected but it still sucks nonetheless

look, the cards are very cool, that sightseer, awesome. But im not into Japanese and even if I was, the dream spread is surely way overvalued haha. I have a bunch of them in English and it would be nice if they were that expensive but im glad English is pretty attainable
I recently cashed out a bunch of doubles that graded PSA 10s in Cardrush, as someone who's collected only Trainer SRs since 2020, it's crazy how a lot of these have 10x since. Stores know that Japanese collectors will still buy these cards at crazy prices. It's funny seeing all these "waifu collectors" within the last 6 months. Stores in Japan seem to move inventory so quickly with things like Oripas creating more incentive to raise prices, and a lot of them have cash ready for ppl to sell to them, even to a foreigner like me
Man, this is some bullshit. >:( Maybe not related but I'm very scared of prices for Scarlet & Violet products going up, in English anyway because they're gonna "up their game". I'd rather get cheaper product than 3 guaranteed holos and silver borders. :/
Honestly English seems to be doing it right, low value modern and plenty of cards to go around.. it’s just silly it’s turned out like this for Japanese when no one wanted it 4 years ago
The line between 'investors' and scalpers is growing hazier and hazier. Thanks for the vid bud, good stuff

Same with you man imma be on the sidelines with y’all…. Thank you truly man I appreciate you 🙏🏽
I’ve been exclusively collecting Japanese cards for a few years now and this is so aggravating to see.
Sightseer is such a beautiful full art. I know it’s expensive and I’d never pay that price but I’m always happy to look at one in someone’s binder.
I’m glad I got my 3 full art Green, Red, and Blue from tag all stars with the starters. Thank for the post Posty.
No problem and those cards are pretty awesome! Glad you got them! 😁
Shotout to my G @no_rmble 🙌🏻
What a homie! 😎
@@OpossumBud just like you G 😎
Great explanational video dude. Side note you need a Pro Club white tee to go with the fresh cut
Pro club white tee is definitely a look 👀 i appreciate ya truly 🙏🏽
Damn Oppossum! You should start charging people to share your knowledge,😉😉you called this annnnnnnd you got the big poke pockets hitting you up, thats all the qualifications needed for $69 an hour baby!!! But for real great video boss
Knowledge is always free and I’m here for y’all! Thank you big dawg 😎🙏🏽
Bro went from card collector look to CEO look
Great vid, man. The prices alone should make people go "Wait, wut?!?!" but your vid really drives it home. What these stores are doing is pretty bold, since they could be left holding some hefty bags. If they pull it off though, if they succeed... well, hats off to them. I think what they're doing is slimy but if there's that many suckers out there that think these prices are organic and buy into it all, so be it.
Insane how expensive the cards have gotten. I've thought about selling my collection. I won't but I've thought about it.
Thank you for shedding some light into this.
I hate how far this whole price manipulation has gone on for. At least there are still some nice cards you can at a decent price like the red and blue tag team card from alter genesis, I got it recently for about 24.99 USD
Oh yeah there’s still plenty of affordable trainers, some waifu, it’s just crazy how obvious the manipulation is 😐
It’s frustrating how much Japanese cards are going for now…after vstar universe I don’t even look anymore. I bought a few single and said I’ll wait till crown zenith.
Yeah VStar universe really made me think about the patterns that used to happen here… it’s just our the door now with $700 SAR cards
we don't talk about the extra battle day promos
Those are so far gone it’s insane 😕
I’ve collected Japanese Pokémon Cards since the UA-cam days of WakeRunCollapse. The appeal was quality, availability, and Japanese price vs. English price. It’s crazy how the Waifu Supporter game drastically changed with Sun & Moon Ultra Prism. The game has definitely changed!
Yeah Lillie and Cynthia had them high priced, but those were also very playable cards as well… the explosion though is nuts 😐
Missed you too, you beautiful bastard. Thanks for sharing in the middle of your trip.
Missed you as well! Thank you 🙏🏽
Anyone know where Oppossum gets that picture of all the Pokémon cards and the price they’ll pay?
I’ve tried looking but I can’t find it.
Hey brother I missed you too!!! And you have to bring the mustache back just saying Lol!!!
It grows back! I appreciate ya 🙏🏽
I think of the 3 categories you mentioned the business/make money one is WAY more than we realize and it’s affecting the market more than it ever has in Japan now. Too many influencers using community/love of Pokémon as a front while they try to get every dollar they can
I always learn a little somethin' somethin' from your videos. Great stuff!
Bro you should do a compilation video of all of your “virgin gang” intros 😂
I mean you probably could lol 😂
@@OpossumBud Word 😎 if I come up with a cool piece I’ll let you know bro
Been there man living out of town at hotels, there nice but they do get old after awhile. Appreciate you still getting content out!
I was watching one of your videos clicked off onto this one accidentally. And as soon as I saw the intro I was beyond confused😂
I have a Japanese Full Art Erika's Hospitality from Tag Team GX All Stars that I opened up a few years ago. Where would be best to sell it other than ebay?
Japan
@@OpossumBud Valid point but unfortunately it has been a few years since I lived there :(
Just came back from about a 5 month break from buying/collecting.
It's kinda ironic how both cards and games both have had their prices gouged by scalpers/investors
I do appreciate that big dawg 😁🙏🏽
Yeah, it wasn’t always like this, lol. It’s like the scalping craziness we experienced in 2020-2021 is just now hitting Japan. Japanese modern always used to be a cheaper alternative. Not any more
And that’s the entire point of this video, to debunk what people say about this being the normal 🙏🏽 thank you!
There is an opossum in that hotel!. Appreciate you making content on the road.
So this is buyouts and market manipulation not demand shift ? What’s the easiest way to tell the difference?
The High Class sets are pretty crazy looking in person when you get those Foils!
#sittingbiggstatus
might just have to get some thai full art trainers for awhile
Anything to keep the collection moving forward 👍🏽 not a bad idea!
Now there is an idea 👀
I missed you too. You look dapper with the new cut
High class content, also sleek cut!
SHEEEEEESH 20 minutes? you're treating us with the content today :D
have a good day man!!
Y’all deserve the content! Thank you truly 🙏🏽
Oh my goodness…
Look at that baby face 🤣
Yeaaaaahhhhh I’m smooth 😂
I knew the waifu prices were out of control but this is fucking crazy...idk anymore I give up.
It’s beyond absurd at this point 😐 beyond
Thanks for always warning peeps & never apologize for what you need to do!
You already have my respect. I hope you have a wonderful day Opossum Bud :)
I appreciate that and I just feel bad it has been a few days… thanks homie 😎🙏🏽
This shit is getting crazy
It’s nuts to even try to see where this will continue to go if it keeps up…
I love these videos so much! The trainer market bullshit is such a topic rn for Pokémon cards and as a collector myself, I just hate the way the market has been for cards that people can’t even name.
OMG yaaassssss I am so sick of the point of entry out of the freaking blue! Sad thing is what is Pokémon gonna be able to really do about it? I am just back here praying it will go back down after the trend wears off so I can collect again.
Yeah dawg you wanna collect or open a box yeah it’s gonna be three times the price man because 420 blaze people like these money bag money money G 😎 it’s dumb
@@OpossumBud soooo stupid. Makes me really wish I'd got into Japanese more when I was saying I should. Instead of listening to others lol
@@OpossumBud Also. I sooo thought you were just a dumb Poké Bum but you totally proved that wrong. I mean look how Mr Soldier boy you look now. Lol much love Homie and be safe on your work thing brother!
Who’s this importer lol looking good bro. 20 min video let me get a fresh coffee
Glad to get you some coffee content homie I appreciate ya! 🙏🏽 I’m still the same!
I traveled to Japan and of course I went to check cards, I couldnt understand how or why the Supporters full art were so expensive!
i sold my extra battle day lillie for 26K last year...makes me wonder who's buying them...love your no bs videos. i'm always learning something new =)
The copy that sold on pwcc?
Thank you for your valuable advice. You try to look after the Pokémon community with your fountain of knowledge passing to the little bulbs. Keep up with the great work. i do agree with you collecting is purely about your passion and enjoyment not investing
Always appreciate you taking the time out of your day to explain this shit to everyone because it’s insane how bad it’s gotten
Appreciate y’all taking the time to listen to what I have to say truly! It means alot man 🙏🏽
that's too rich for my blood lmao... and i fall in the collector category... i like to start a set and finish it before i move on.
The demand for these cards is worldwide. Im kicking myself for not picking up more of these cards i enjoy especially the Kouki Saito full art illustrations.
These numbers aren’t going to hold for those trainer cards. Eventually those number will retrace.
Whats the going rate for a 10 pack V-star Universe booster box?
So my full trainer Agatha from Jet Black Poltergeist is stonks right now!!!! 🤣
I never understood the hype of the Japanese cards until I got one, the Marnie FA from Shiny Star V, and the textures, the feel, the subtle details in the card are so much better than the English counterpart. It was love at first sight
I remember getting the lily promo card back when it was super cheap because it was so cool. Now it's over $248. That's just stupid.
Yeah I got her for like $18 usd and now it’s pushing $300 😐 I will say it is an exclusive promo so I get it having some value, but damn
@@OpossumBud i just hope it gets a reprint because the art is so cool and i want people to have one.
I remember being told that my Japanese cards were fake when I had some of the Japanese gym set cards back in like 98. I have always thought they looked way better than the English cards and were just better quality all the way around. It's wild to see them become more popular at this point when they have been the better product this entire time. Great video, dude.
So easy to see you're 100% right on this. But damn my guy you're pokerich now lol 🙏💙
I don’t even care to be pokerich, I truly do think these prices are to corner and quick flip… it’s just not natural
@@OpossumBud oh I know my guy I'm just messing. I just feel for the real japanese collectors like you. I only collect certain pokemon in Japanese so I'm not as affected but it still sucks nonetheless
He went from looking 45 to looking 15 in one video
I’ve never fully understood why Japanese card prices were so wildly different than their English versions, but this video definitely helped me grasp it a little more. Thanks Bud, much appreciated!
Cut lookin fresh though. 😎
God bless homie!
when king shows the receipts. periodt king lol
look, the cards are very cool, that sightseer, awesome.
Stores in Japan seem to move inventory so quickly with things like Oripas creating more incentive to raise prices, and a lot of them have cash ready for ppl to sell to them, even to a foreigner like me
I miss your hair papi 😢
Gotta get a paycheck lol it’ll grow back!
Man, this is some bullshit. >:(
Maybe not related but I'm very scared of prices for Scarlet & Violet products going up, in English anyway because they're gonna "up their game". I'd rather get cheaper product than 3 guaranteed holos and silver borders. :/
Honestly English seems to be doing it right, low value modern and plenty of cards to go around.. it’s just silly it’s turned out like this for Japanese when no one wanted it 4 years ago
Where’s the CGC crack??
I’m not at home
Love your info! And the fact that you have extensive pokemon knowledge!
I’m here to share! I know a lot of y’all weren’t here so I’ll help y’all out 😎🙏🏽
