Here’s my thing, Saweetie is beautiful, she’s smart af, and her visuals are 🔥 HOWEVER, when it comes to her being a performer and a artist she falls short for me. Like if her music comes on I won’t change it, BUT I don’t go looking to play her music for myself if that makes sense

When Saweetie dropped ICY... the reason everyone loved her was because she was relatable. Sis came out casual, tomboy and classy then BOOM classier city girl. Her music became bubblegum music. Back to streets deserved a better rating but wasn’t on brand. It seem like she’s not happy and it’s true her stage presents ain’t it.
I feel when she got with Quavo that’s when she changed her music style. It was like she was becoming his prodigy! She was tryna act hood and have that hood/ raunchy aesthetic! That just doesn’t fit her vibe and personality and I definitely think her team was just focusing on making money by making these type of songs because it’s what sells ! That's what I'm gathering as well. It's funny because Cardi said from the get-go she's in it to make money BUT she's not half assing anything. Even when she comes short, it's just because she hit some limit, but rest assured she gave you her all! She does the most with what she got and I respect her grind. Saweetie for how fly she is and portrays herself to be, is giving me a girl riddled with insecurities. When she's taken out of her bubble where she only has to flex for the phone and can later edit it the way she wants to, she folds. She has potential but she has to put herself out there more.

Saweetie is a Gen Z entertainer to me. Artists like Doja, Meg, etc. (but not to compare) bring a more authentic brand for their name, especially because the music is mostly original. I want to see Saweetie excel but her music is an appetizer for right now.

People will bump Boosie or Soulja Boy and understand that it’s just fun music but when Saweetie does fun music with actual lyrical content, it’s a problem when the day before they were critically acclaiming Kodak’s music on IG. It was a really long set... Everything was wrong... The hair and outfits, dancing, voice overs... everything.... To me she's an influencer that got a record deal.... She's not trying bc she feels like she doesn't have to the money is so going to come in.... For her to say during the performance "oooooooo I'm tired and outta breath but I got one more for yall" like what! I've never been a fan but this performance showed me why I just couldn't get with it.
I couldn't help but laugh when she said she was out of breath. She was barely hitting the moves and to me it looked like she forgot that she was at least supposed to lip sync. There so many times during the performance (which was just too long) where her mouth wasn't moving at all.

You don’t NEED choreo to have an engaging performance BUT if you’re gonna do it, do it right. Doesn’t matter how pretty you are. Since people like Meg and Doja are out here CONSISTENTLY SERVING I feel like other artists are feeling the pressure to be all around popstars but lack basic stage presence. All that unnecessary choreography and lip syncing just for it to look awkward when they could be focusing their energy on other aspects of the performance.
I totally agree. She shouldn't have to dance to keep up with the others and I don't think she even needs a bunch of choreography. I've seen so many people compare her performances to Doja and Meg but I even think of someone like Jhene Aiko who doesn't even stand up every time she performs and doesn't sing the most "hype" songs but when she's on stage you know she's there and she has your attention.

Hip Hop has ALWAYS been based on samples. J Dilla, Kanye West, etc exclusively produce “sampled” beats. And on top of that, a lot of Saweetie’s current competition samples just as much as her. It’s not her fault that the PUBLIC gravitates towards those songs from her. SN her biggest hit to date is Best Friend which does not contain a sample.
Yes but they usually flip the song to give it a whole new sound. Saweetie doesn’t do that. She uses the popularity of an already hit song to get a hit. That’s so easy to do. Those samples are so easy to identify. Kanye and j dilla’s samples weren’t always super easy to identify.
Plus their samples were much older samples and were samples of r&b and soul music. Saweetie samples rap songs from the late 90a and early 2000s. It’s much easier to get a rot for a song that already worked. That’s super easy to identify and was just a hit 10-15 years ago.

It was a really long set... Everything was wrong... The hair and outfits, dancing, voice overs... everything.... To me she's an influencer that got a record deal.... I've never been a fan but this performance showed me why I just couldn't get with it.
I couldn't help but laugh when she said she was out of breath. She was barely hitting the moves and to me it looked like she forgot that she was at least supposed to lip sync. There so many times during the performance (which was just too long) where her mouth wasn't moving at all.

All that unnecessary choreography and lip syncing just for it to look awkward when they could be focusing their energy on other aspects of the performance.

Yes but they usually flip the song to give it a whole new sound. Saweetie doesn’t do that. She uses the popularity of an already hit song to get a hit. That’s so easy to do. Those samples are so easy to identify. Kanye and j dilla’s samples weren’t always super easy to identify.
Plus their samples were much older samples and were samples of r&b and soul music. Saweetie samples rap songs from the late 90a and early 2000s. It’s much easier to get a rot for a song that already worked. That’s super easy to identify and was just a hit 10-15 years ago.

@@13ikea naw I’d throw Meg in there too. Meg’s samples are easy to identify and she samples way too much imo but she can rap so she’s miles ahead of Saweetie. Saweetie can’t rap so it’s like she’s relying on the sample to get a hit.
Saweetie danced more in the video for Best Friend than in that whole performance. I feel like she would’ve stepped it all the way up if she was on the ring with Doja Cat with matching outfits. They fumbled this gig from the get-go.

I think the stuck up image works if executed well. Gaga made a whole album about celebrating the depravity of fame culture and was iconic. Some of the song concepts, lyrics and performances dont stand out. My type worked because their was a concept, just like best friends. But not all the girls can get away with rapping about a bunch of random topics on a beat, because you gotta have powerful bars to get away with those kinda songs. Nicki can do it, but even then Ive wanted more conceptual songs from her lately too. I think we really wanna know what Saweetie thinks, and so far we are getting surface. There came a point in saweeties performance when she went BEHIND the backup dancers to hype them up. I was like “ where’s Saweetie where did she go?” The audience can’t loose sight of an artist cause she blended in with backup dancers🤦🏾♀️
