- Ruggero Leoncavallo - Pagliacci
Pietro Mascagni - Cavalleria rusticana
These two pinnacles of Italian opera, Pagliacci and Cavalleria rusticana have it all - love, infidelity, betrayal, jealousy and murder. Both are classic examples of verismo operas that dramatise the lives of ordinary people: Pagliacci fuelled by the tension between everyday life and the aesthetic world of the stage, Cavalleria rusticana juxtaposing unbridled passion with profound faith. Robert Carsen’s widely acclaimed 2019 production plays a masterful game of theatre-in-theatre, avoiding clichés and calling into question the nature of reality.

bravissimo!
So Pagliacci is now a musical. He needs to keep his arms out of the way of the microphones as it affects the sound.. What would the composer think? Crappola.
A bit pitchy and overly gesticulatory. And the audible breathing! It a piece that's hard to over do, but he nearly makes it. And does this production make sense?
Nedda's got a nice body
Major rasping! Yes, the voice is better, not worse, than it's been in the past, but man, talk about burning the candle.
Awful production. The singing is also far from the best. Not worth buying.
OMG his voice so busted... 😅🤦🏻😨
I saw this in the house, and he sounded great, dramatically totally committed as if he was actually going mad. Almost scary. Not for a second did it sound like a voice in decline.
