The writer of this song, Lucio Dalla (from Bologna, northern Italy), wrote this in 1986 while staying in one of the rooms where Enrico Caruso, former famous tenor (From Neaples, southern Italy), spent the final days of his life. Caruso was 48-years-old when he died, and a few years before Caruso died, he married Dorothy Park Benjamin who was 20 years younger. They had a baby girl they named Gloria. Lucio Dalla wrote this song while imagining how Caruso, who knew he was dying, would have said goodbye to his young wife - the love of his life.

These performances are from a concert filmed in Montreal in 2000 that was recorded and televised on PBS in america. No competition. Besides, Lara has no competition, she's the best! The title of the show is, "From Lara With Love". She was 30 years old and I believe at the very height of her ability and beauty.
Some others from this concert, Adagio, Broken Vow, Perdere l'amore. Unfortunately, due to Sony music and Celine Dion's people, Lara never broke through into the U.S. market. People are just now discovering her immeasurable talent here in the states. She should have been a megastar here, as she is in France, Belgium, Brazil, and across the globe.
I think Lara was born ahead of her time cause I bet that if she sang like this now that we have internet and social media she would be a world phenomenon a million times bigger than she was. She has not only the voice, but the soul to sing this in such amazing way.
A nice detail among many is how the audience bounces to their feet in order to give a standing ovation. Had I been there, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself. Nor did anyone who was present during this truly magical moment. If there's a soul in your body, if there's a pulse in your veins, you simply have to applaud her.
Lara Fabian is one of the interpreters that Dimash admires and here we see why !!!

This was the 1st one of Lara's I heard & was so blown away by it I began looking into more of her songs. I have heard male Opera singers perform Caruso but my favourite is definitely Lara's interpretation of this beautiful song. Love that you love Lara as much as we do. She also sings in multiple languages besides having this amazing ability to convey the emotion of what she is singing about.

Her career began in 1986 I don't believe she was ever participating in any competition although I could be mistaken.
You really should react to Ti Amo Cosi performed by Lara Fabian, Dimash and Aida Garifullina a few years back at a birthday jubilee for Igor Krutoy. She is another of Dimash's idols and has had a huge influence on him musically speaking.
The adagio song by Lara Fabian is so beautiful and cool, the Adagio sung by Dimash at the singer show everyone is shocked 😎

Lucio Dalla, the creator of this song, stayed in the Italian city of Sorrento, in the hotel "Excelsior Vittoria". Quite by accident, he was staying in the room where the famous Italian tenor Enrico Caruso used to be. The owners of the hotel told Lucio Dalla about the last days of Caruso's life, about his pain, love and longing for his wife and their daughter. That is how the inspiration for the song of the same name came about. It remains unclear whether Caruso addresses only his beloved wife in the song, or partly also his beloved daughter.
The song is beautiful, written in the melodic and "most loving" language in the world. Lara's voice and emotional interpretation caress and tear the soul. Perfection!

The way she backs off of that final note is extraordinary. Welcome to Lara's world, where you realize you could listen to her all day and not care that you don't speak the language. She is in a class of her own. This is a cover, of course, but she is an amazing songwriter and composer. Her melodies are incredible. Complex and intricate without ever being showy.

Lara`s voice is as beautiful as she herself is.
I found Lara while surfing UA-cam a few years ago ........ She is, for me anyway, the ultimate vocal artist - her voice is warm even when belting. her resonance is greater above all I have ever heard, she pronounces each and every letter of every word, she has the range of any out there, she never sounds flat or nasally ( my one complaint about the wonderfully talented Celine Dion ), but most of all Lara has the4 unique ability to invite her audience to travel WITH her along the emotional journey that a composer intended for any particular piece. The Lara Fabian experience came late in my life but no complaints here for to find such joy is never too late. She sings from her heart and my heart hears; she leads me along the emotional path and i follow willingly. Lara is a gift.

As far as I know she's never been in any competition, except for the one Celine Dion imagine in her head. This song and the other one "Jes suis malade" are from a concert that she gave a while back called, "from Lara, with love."

The incomparable Lara. Top Tier indeed! Her every performance a professional singers Master Class. No-one else so thoroughly inhabits the story of each song with every note, nuance of tone, breath & every gesture so micro intentional. I doubt the great Caruso himself would identify anyone who could sing this better than Lara. Stunningly beautiful voice. Is it any wonder that Dimash cites her as one of his most influential role models during his training and was later thrilled to perform with her.

Yup. I discovered her almost two years ago and am still left completely...befuddled and amazed by her. I've liked a lot of artists in my life, but Fabian is in a league of her own for me.

Thank you, J-Dub. She is absolutely enrapturing. You might not be aware; Lara Fabian has been performing for quite some time. Her career began in 1986 and really took hold about 10 years later, when she was recognized globally. I don't think her popularity has ever waned.
She is wonderful. Her singing is emotional. The tone of her voice is so rich. You have found my favorite female singer. And of course you have found my favorite male singer in Dimash. You must have very good taste. Love the reaction.

Someone may have told you already, but Lara was raised in Italy first, therefore her perfect Italian. She is also married to an Italian man. She then lived in Belgium and speaks perfect French, and also English. She now lives in Montreal, Canada, where I am from… you may want to listen to “Broken Vow”, amazing, it’s in English! Yes also “Je t’aime”, which is a great show of love from Lara’s friends to her, you will understand when you listen. It has to be the “Paris 2001” version.
She was born in Belgium. Her mother is Italian, that is why she speaks perfect Italian.

Her father is belgian, her mother is italian from Sicily ; her mother went to Belgium to visit some family and she met Lara's father. Lara was born in Belgium, Bruxelles-Etterbeek ; until the age of 5 they lived in Italy, then they moved back to Belgium where Lara was educated for years to music, theather, art of singing. She lives between Belgium and Quebec, as she works a lot there

I have seen the concert version and the fancam. The sound of course is better at the concert but the fancam is from a view of Lara's back and Dimash is so tender and touches her back and you can just tell how thrilled he is to be singing with her. I love that so much. I think there is 23 years difference in their ages now. He admires her so much

that's a faithful translation in the subtitles notably the part about "it's a chain now that heats the blood inside the veins" ( vs mixes/dissolves the blood ) and it's a story about the story: " A few years before he died, Caruso met and wed a woman 20 years his junior, Dorothy Park Benjamin, whom Lucio Dalla describes in this song "Caruso". so Lucio Dalla is depicting them by the sea of Soriento and the bond with Dorothy sets Caruso's blood on fire.

I love her "je suis malade" (french song cover), but for this is the italian original song better. I*am lived in Europe and visit Italia often, because i love that country, the culture etc. and this song is one of the canon of italian music and i love the original version:

Caruso Is a a song of Lucio Dalla an italian artist.
There is a story behind this Song.
One day Lucio Dalla broke is boat in front of Gulf of Sorrento. I Asked a friend for help and the friend was the owner of the hotel (Grand Hotel Excelsior Victoria)
where Caruso (famous tenor of the past) died. The friend gave to Lucio the Caruso's room. At the same time chance willed that the barman of the restaurant "La Scogliera" tale to Lucio Dalla that Caruso had fallen in love with an unrequited love for a young girl to which he gave singing lessons.
Shortly after, Caruso died.
In his room Lucio found the piano that belonged to Caruso and inspired by this story began to play a few notes.
A little later the song was ready.
