You can't tell me Elvis couldn't act ! Here he is in a scene with three very accomplished actors . Directed by one of the most solid respected directors and not only holds his own but excels and his intensity , sincerity explodes off the screen. The unfortunate thing is the fans just didn't want to see him in these kind of roles. And no it wasnt Parkers fault. It was the fans. They wanted him singing , dancing ,getting the pretty girl . Exotic locations and happy endings.. Hollywood was about money . Flaming Star and Wild in the Country just didn't do as well as G.I. Blues and Blue Hawaii . The dye was cast . And this was the end of Elvis in dramatic roles. Sad.
Well, it was Parker's fault too. But you are right about the fans that didn't care about what Elvis truly wanted to do-act in serious roles. My favorite movie is Charro. Elvis was so good in that movie.
It was partly what the crazed fans wanted unlike me I would have loved to see him do parts others got... But yes it was partly that and them wanting bv the singing and dancing but also the Colonel wanted to do cheaper movies that sold at box office but he himself put Elvis in a box and typecast him... The fans wanted only more of the same... But others like Big stars he met knew he was capable of more since often some came and watched him on the set of movies like King Creole or Viva Las Vegas or Charro or Flaming Star and they saw first hand how much of a natural he was and how much he devoted himself to the parts learning his lines and motivated to put his all into the parts even learning about the movie making process and taking in all that the process and crew did... The camera angles and direction and all it took... John Wayne wanted him, and Streisand and others... One director producer was a total jerk and git along well with The Colonel because he borrowed sets and did things the fastest and cheapest ways just like the Colonel and Elvis did not like and really did not feel pleased or too happy working with him... That was Kazan
@@TheRivrPrncess yes that's one of my favorites but I liked most except Kissin Cousins and working with producer Sam Katzman really frustrated him... Or on one or two others that story was dumb like Clam Bake... I loved King Creole and Flaming Star and Viva Las Vegas some I wanted better for him...
❤❤ I thought he was a natural and enjoyed his movies but the ones I liked best were the ones where he could really get into character. He was a beautiful, talented, special kind of human being. We'll never see his like again.😢
He was way blessed to be in a movie twice in dramatic films with outstanding actors! What an opportunity to learn! He had so much potential and then he went back doing those (sorry guys) stupid movies. The only quality one I think was Viva Las Vegas because Ann lit up the screen with Elvis. Elvis was absolutely great in this film!!
I just watched this movie today and was absolutely amazed with how good Elvis acted in it! He was an amazing actor! The movie was very sad…especially this scene, cuz it hits your heart so hard and I felt so bad for Elvis and I kinda related it to his life and how his mum died so young and stuff and you can just tell that this role definitely hit different for him because he kinda relived what he already went through. Amazing acting done by Elvis! I wish he had acted in more serious movies like he wanted, cuz he’s so good at those roles! Even though some of the serious storylines are very heartbreaking, it’s still amazing how well he can act which makes the movies great! This movie totally hit different than his others though. And it left me thinking about it all day and kinda feeling sad because Pacer was completely lost in life and had life so hard that he just let himself die!
I agree , Elvis was a great actor. Just never got the chance to show his talent. He would have proved all the critics wrong if he had the chance to do so.
June Robertson, Col Parker got him involved in several movies for no other reason than to sell records. Sad, because Elvis had high talents as an actor.
He was a talented actor and could have done so much more with roles he would have had opportunity to show his true potential that could have grown with more...He was put in a box and his creativity to act in more parts or make the Karate Movie Documentary he was working on... The Colonel went against anything new he wanted or offers that came in like Streisand offering a huge part in A Star Is Born... She talked with him and wanted his input and his creative side but also knew he could act and do a great job on a different part.. He was excited about it and like many times the Colonel shot it down... The times when Elvis stood up to him and did his own thing was when he did amazing accomplishments and proved he could break out of that image and box he had been put in...
Elvis was part Native American on his Mother Gladys's side...So very interesting...He was offered the lead in West Side Story..he would have overshadowed Natalie Wood-
After seeing the Elvis movie you really feel sorry for him. Elvis knew he could act and all his life he wanted to be in roles more like Marlin Brando and James Cagney. This scene proves he could act. But the combination of low ticket sales and Parker’s control kept Elvis pigeonholed into corny roles where he sings even cornier songs. You realize the magnitude of his ‘68 Comeback Special at that point.
A 1960 movie that dealt with racism? Trust Elvis to be a part of that. Wow. I saw this as a kid, but I don’t remember much of it. I just know the guy could really act. His early films prove that. And Change of Habit is probably his best boy meets girl movie. He’s a believable but cool ghetto doctor. Again, that movie also deals with serious social issues. Makes me wonder how he would have done as kind of a cool, Jack Lord type of Felix Leiter opposite Connery, Lazenby or Moore. I guess they were afraid of someone upstaging their star. Elvis could have made that work. I watch his 1968 Comeback and I think he might have worked in a small Felix role in OHMSS. He was that good. His fight scenes were incredible. Love Me Tender was his first film and he never looked out of place. He was a natural. But the money was in mainstream romantic comedies, so that’s what he did. That’s what helped kill him, along with the prescription drug use and the losses in his life.
great scene..Elvis could act pretty well regardless of what the critics say...noticed the continuity error with the knife. he held at different Angel's from the back view in comparison to the front views..🤪
I really want to see this movie but I can't understand what they're saying... This accent is too strong for my poor soul, sometimes I catch some phrases but when they speak fast and low it gets confusing

Exactly.
He did here
June Robertson, I disagree. His early movies were proof.
You should watch wild in the country
@@AnneliesRosseel I already did, long ago.
Great movie that really shows Elvis’s acting chops in a dramatic role.

Fans wanted speak for yourself
All Very True...Except he was really good in "Change of Habit"
Elvis is absolutely superb in this scene. He transcends his image and becomes, Pacer the half- breed Indian.. Hollywood could take a lesson.
I work in the film industry, and believe me, Hollywood needs him more than ever.
Elvis was a great actor, without a doubt. He could have acted in big films.

I think this was Elvis finest role, I'm indigenous and it brought me to tears.
Yeah just like Indians didn't kill any Europeans... rolls eyes

Had elvis not been a good actor, he'd not have been such a good singer.
That scene will get you.
My poor Elvis! Let go of him please! Don’t hurt my poor baby! 😭
I almost started crying when I thought the other guy killed him. I'm a weirdo.

Clint should have gone around the back door and jumped Pacer to give up the gun before Pacer done something foolish by getting himself killed

Can change the movie speed to 0.75, the circular flower at top right screen brings up the speed menu.
That guy will never make it in the movies. Looks too much like a singer from the 50´s.
