The 1984 KX80 brings back memories. Two of my friends (brothers) had one each brand new in 84. That cylinder was sleeved. The cylinders were originally chrome lined, Kawasaki called it Electrofusion. They would last a long time if the filter was clean & did not let the rings get too worn.
yup, you should have walked away from it, despite having wasted 4 hours of time and gazoline. In Dutch, we have a saying: "Beter ten halve gekeerd, dan ten hele gedwaald"., translated (occording google), " better half-turned then completely gone astray" .
