The lyrics have a deeper meaning once you look into it.. "It's the same old theme in 2018" from the past we've been fighting through war but this is about mental war, "what's in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie" due to the surrounding area and what's still going on it's mentally damaging the children and parents trying to protect them, or another disturbing reason is that kids are being taken to be fought as soldiers in wars being forced into slave labor, fighting, taken away from family. "Another hangs lowly, child is slowly taken.. And the violence causes silence" The news always covers police chases but when it comes to war..it's silence.

Well the really boring explanation is that between 1985ish and 2018 the story hasn't changed and we are still facing the same challenges but in different forms, its a reference to the original song in which they stated the same lyric but with 1985 or 1990 or something like that. Same with that lyric about a child being taken it is referring to an incident that occurred in what i remember Ireland or England something like that in which two children i believe were murdered or killed in some incident and the original writer of this song wanted to use it as an additional metaphor for violence being an issue that needs to be talked about and how war is a big contributor to the silence because of political issues. Just a little extra context!

So many people here don't know the history of this song and this cover.
While the words might have many meanings and interpretations, the original band and singer (Cranberries) made this song based on the Ireland war and all of the riots and stuff that followed that conflict. After many years, the band Bad Wolves were going to do a cover and invited the original singer to sing with them, but sadly she died on the day they were going to record.
This cover has few words changed (Like mentioning drones and 2018) because they wanted to fit more modern feel and show that even after all these years, things like wars, terror etc. still hasn't changed one bit and it's still the same thing over and over again. This cover is more like a tribute to the original song, with the modern version, almost like a child telling a story to their grandfather.

Not just that, from what I read recently, the cranberries’ singer was actually supposed to sing this (with Bad Wolves preforming the insturmentals)
But she died before they could record. They had the plan all up.
So they pushed through with recording this in her memory.

Yes the Bad Wolves were meant to collaborate with the lead singer, Dolores O'Riordan, they were waiting for her in the studio but she never turned up. She was unfortunately found dead. They did a really great tribute for her and her family.

I see a lot of comments this song was actually originally by the cranberries and bad wolves did a cover of it and they where going to have the lead singer reprise their vocals but sadly she died the day she was supposed to do the cover with them. so they covered the song in memory of her and all the proceeds go to her children. The song is about the conflicts in Ireland they have been having a ware between both side due to one part being Catholic and the other side being Protestant in the original the date used was 1916

Some of the greatest Irish nationalists of all time were protestants, such as Wolfe Tone. The wars in Ireland have been fought between Irish freedom fighters and British Nazis for eight hundred years.
