Awesome design, I really especially like the strap system. Solves a lot of problems with a simple, light, and versatile piece! It never occurred to me that you could tie a girth hitch like that, without a sewn or tied loop... Wow... So useful.
We got ours about a month ago, but just got our rafts the other day, so I just now set it all up. Super happy with them, very quality work! We just had someone in a packraft group in Az asking people to look out for their phone and other expensive gear due to their bow bag Tzip bursting open after flipping in a rapid. Definitely glad to go this route instead. Also, thanks for being so helpful on various websites with info about packrafting!
Hi Dan, I came for the packraft bow bag video (which looks great), but then noticed that you've modified your HMG Porter with loadlifters on the shoulder straps! Have you replaced the frame stays with taller ones and then sewn or glued waterproof patches to hold the webbing? I've been thinking of adding loadlifters to my Porter, so any tips would be very much appreciated!
Hi Matthew - yes I modified this Porter with a 4 inch longer frame and load lifters. The only bummer about modding a porter is the frame stays are pretty narrowly spaced, so when you put load lifters on, the straps come very close to your head. Optimal world I think I'd want the stays wider. It's not a terribly hard mod to make, just requires you to put webbing channels on the inside of the pack to capture the stays, and then a reinforcement on the outside that also has the tension lock on it for the webbing. Connection to the actual straps near the chest is a gatekeeper. I've made the mod for a couple of folks. It's an improvement but really probably only worth it if you are psyched on the rest of the harness.
@@DanRansom thanks for the detailed response! As a first step I'm going to try attaching load lifter straps to the Y-strap that clips over the top of the bag. If that doesn't work, I'll try your method. Thanks again!

Brilliant design!
That is an excellent design. It's what I want. Fully integrated system so I don't need to DIY and jerry rig everything.
Cheers, thanks! What's packrafting without a lot of jerry riggin' though! Ha.
Great design

where'd you got your materials for people like me who want to make their own?
