    1. Comparison of Drugs: Methotrexate and prednisone are commonly used for treating rheumatic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
    2. Safety Profile: Methotrexate is generally considered safer than prednisone, which has around 150 side effects including infections, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
    3. Treatment Guidelines: Guidelines favor methotrexate, especially at doses of 10mg or higher, due to its perceived safety.
    4. Combination Therapy: A new study suggests that combining prednisone with methotrexate can reduce some of methotrexate's side effects, such as nausea and liver enzyme elevation.
    5. Dosage and Management: Finding the right dosage for each drug is crucial for managing symptoms and minimizing side effects. Dr. Megan also provides a prednisone checklist to help avoid common mistakes when taking the medication.

About 20 years ago, a doctor told me taking prednisone 30 days or less is considered short term. He said with a short term regimen, you don’t need to be weened off of prednisone ie…20-10-5 dosing. If you take prednisone infrequently to deal with flare ups, I’m assuming the really big downsides are probably not as big of a risk.

For every “rule” there are many exceptions when it comes to prednisone. I’m glad that’s worked for you. Many have told me horror stories on much shorter term than that.

Heyy, I take prednisone for LCH (Langerhaus Cell Histiocytosis) which is technically cancer, what should I do to slow down the moon face!? It’s one of my biggest insecurities, I’ve been considering Metformin but I don’t think it’ll help my cause since it’s for blood sugar

I am currently on prednisolone 15mg per day plus methotrexate 7.5mg once a week for mucous membrane pemphigoid. I suffer no apparent side effects from both medications most probably because I only just started taking the meds since February this year and on pretty low dose. My doctor (a geriatrician) is still monitoring the right dosage balance for my condition while attempting to tapper down my prednisolone while increasing the methotrexate. Thus far blisters bound to show up once prednisolone is lowered down to 15mg despite MTX having been increased. Which made me wonder if MTX is of any help at all to my condition, it could have always been just prednisolone working? Then why should I burden my body with the extra side effects of MTX? Doesn’t taking predinisolone + MTX = 150 + 50 side effects 😅
