  • Seven things we wish we knew before we went to SMA. 1. 2. The importance of good footwear. 3. The arsenic in the drinking water. 4. Preparation for high altitude and inability to get powdered electrolytes. 5. The Thursday evening dinner club , by Michael SOLOF that you need to sign up for in advance. 6. Warren Hardy language school, you need to register in advance. 7. The noise in zona central.

San Miguel de Allende is a picturesque colonial town located in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Renowned for its well-preserved Spanish architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant arts scene, it has earned recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town's rich history dates back to the 16th century, characterized by its central role in Mexico's struggle for independence. Its distinctive blend of Mexican tradition and international influences make it a captivating destination for those seeking history, beauty, and creativity in a unique setting. The architecture is not spanish, it's morrocan-mexican-india-spanish. Spain was dominated and influenced In all architecture by Morrocan and and Norther Africa, influenced by Roman Arch etc etc, it's a mixture, plus Spanish architecture do not use the bright colors😂😊

@@goingwalkaboutnowIt’s been fading away more and more. Gentrification has ruined many aspects of life here. Most of the culture is disappearing due to locals being run out of town for ex patriats who are moving in. Most foreigners who live here are not very nice and are very entitled.

Hello, Great tips; however, I would not recommend wearing Sketchers shoes. I wore that brand on my first trip to San Miguel de Allende and found that the shoes didn't provide the support and traction needed to walk comfortably on cobblestones. My feet and back suffered the consequences. I would recommend shoes with good traction and support. I recently purchased a pair of Solemn hiking shoes, and that is what I will be wearing on my next trip. Note: I am not endorsing any specific brand, but I am just sharing this in to help.

Just came back from a week in San Miguel de Allende. You missed my three favorite parts of the city market: the gelato shop, the meat department and the large, refrigerated, beers of the world aisle. I was there in March 2023 and the fireworks were going off day and night. I’m surprised you did not know about the footwear since the city’s nickname is “the city of fallen women“. My brother did ask me how well I spoke Spanish and I replied “better than my Slovak“. I’m headed there for five weeks in April/May. It’s OK, I’ve got 12% of a plan 😊

City of fallen women is the perfect name for SMDA!

Also what is the best way to even get to SM? Some say fly into CDMX and take a shuttle or bus. Some say fly into QRO and take taxi. Any tips? Coming from Arizona

@@kittynyc808 I flew into QRO and took a bus. I can’t be sure, but I think there are holidays about every other weekend. At least, that’s what the festival schedule would indicate to me.😳

@kittynyc808 if you can get a direct flight to QRO that would be your best option.

Asking people from around the World where the best healthcare is they'll say the U.S.. the best roads are in Europe, best Tech in Japan and S. Korea etc etc...but almost unanimously they'll all agree; Mexico is the place to party. True experience.

Such a beautiful city but growing up here and visiting every other year to see family I can say the locals are the ones who made this town. Unfortunately due to gentrification and being named a UNESCO has placed it on the international map and has given way for more expats to move in. A lot of them don’t care for the culture they are just there because it’s a "vibe" and because it's affordable for them at the moment. That has made life very expensive for the locals making a lot of them to sell their homes that have been there from the beginning to real estate renovations. At lot of the locals have moved and the people who would come out regularly to and come together to celebrate local traditions has disappeared. The magic is fading in this beautiful small pocket of the world. 😢
