I cant believe that they didnt include all these drum fills at the ending of the real song that Chad plays in this tutorial. It would make the song so much better!
"Flea said, think Manic Depression..." Exactly. In fact, much of the bass line is Manic Depression- Hendrix. The basic idea of the verse comes from "Norwegian Wood" Beatles.
Fantastic drummer. When i was in college i used to do the drum part in the middle on the table in the canteen and get my class to accentuate it. Blood Sugar's a great album and Chad definitely was an influence on me. Not a patch on him though.
onlyonetigger, Chad Smith is a solid drummer. Pick Withers of Dire Straits is drastically underrated and overlooked. Just listening to the drumming on 'Sultans of Swing' alone demonstrates his great drumming skills.
@trumpetking11 I am sure that was supposed to be a spin off of a joke Will Ferrel or John C Reilly used? Because that other person didn't get it if so.
@UncleRuben1 its unfortunate that Rolling Stone doesn't agree with you :( Chad should have more recognition, Imo my favorite drum line of chads is in The Greeting Song. It just meshes with the bass and Guitar sooo friggin well, as soon as they kick in my head starts bobbing uncontrollably lol.
theres a difference between stomping your foot 80x a second and coming up with interesting rhythms. I challenge all your "technically superior" metal drummers to sound interesting and not just fast. Because I'm sure if Chad had spent his days practicing pure speed he could do that too
A good drummer is one that serves the music and gives it exactly what it needs - think of Ringo Starr - obviously not the greatest drummer - but without him the Beatles wouldn’t be what they are
This is exactly what MTV needs to get back to showing
It's only gone further downwards since
I'm still waiting xD

Rick Ruben basically suggested he chilled with those and saved them for the live performances. Play to the song
Having been drumming since The Beatles came out I can say Chad is a bad ass.
I think this is the most I've ever heard Chad speak ever hahaha
🤣🤣🤣
hes not quiet
Hi Chad
You are Genius, I adore RHCP Songs, a new world of Music for me.
By far my favorite song on the drums. By far. I love the rhythm of it.
wow I never really noticed that the drums on that song where like that, thats why they're so good, because it just grooves with the song! briliant!!

TheRealJimmyRoberts1 nailed it
5:36 how.......
Liked this video of 14 years ago and still love it now
this song is amazing
one of the few times we see chad without a hat on
This is amazing. As soon as he mentioned Jimi, I knew he would say something about Manic Depression.
Beautiful...
3:16 - before fills
3:42 - with tom fills
4:07 - with track
I wish one day I can become atleast half as good as Chad... One of the most underrated drummers EVER. Same goes with Jeremiah Green from Modest Mouse
perfect practice makes perfect...
He's awesome..
Definitivly you are my proffessor 😂❤
I love it
GENIOS
This song really channels Zeppelin with the drums and wind instruments

In my opinion, Chad Smith is right up there with the best drummers ever: Mitch Mitchel and Keith Moon.

keirh moon is overrated

So fucking sick!
Flea had great idea with those toms :)
it's awesome, one of that no one can clone, no way!!!!!

Would have good been if the Video was in HD, from Chad's youthful days.
JOHN BONHAM AND CHAD SMITH = GODS
damn that was sick
wow this is like the first time i see chat without a hat
@UncleRuben1 Definitely one of the most underrated :)
practice makes perfect
Haha my mom does the same thing too with flicking on the light when my guitar or bass is too loud.
@Ugot2WhyMe
absoluty !
the guitar part of the song ist really nice too, but chad is more present on the track... and hes making the song really wow
@trumpetking11 I am sure that was supposed to be a spin off of a joke Will Ferrel or John C Reilly used? Because that other person didn't get it if so.

5:26 is the moment where Chad lost his mind
Chad is the funkiest white man alive
@UncleRuben1 You mean EVER!?
Thats because he had hair.
When was this made?? Looks like sometime between BSSM and One Hot Minute. Anyone know?
seems to be a hard song
@AirGoya MTV ?... do you still watch TV ?
I can't tell if it's Will Ferrell or Jesus playing drums!
Didn’t know Will Ferrell could drum
sounds like ur spittin
What's that stuff growing out of his head?
Get out. He’s an awesome drummer! He’s not the BEST, but he’s for sure more than “ok” or “isn’t that good”. X)
Year?
1992/1993 circa
Weird seeing him with two tom's
He doesnt look like Will Ferrel bit y
how the fuck 5:19 ??
Chad without a hat....weird
nope he's number 1. you can look it up
Every drummer knows that he isn't that good, but he's ok.
Samuel Perez im a drummer and he is pretty good. Not akira jimbo good but pretty good.
