He's gotta be the most underrated drummer ever. He's SO good. His style is so spaztic but he plays so clean, it's amazing. This is by far my favorite song to drum to.
I love how hard he hits the cymbals and gets so much power out of them but at the same time the sticks are literally so fluid in his hands wtf is this sorcery
Chad seems to ALWAYS lay the perfect groove to every tune. He's always improving as well, and seems like the coolest mutha. RHCP's landed their perfect drummer
he's awesome. such groove. we would all love to play just like him even if it's just for a day. u must know he did start drumming at age 7 so he's got a good 40-45 years under his belt. i think chad's like in his low to mid 50s now.
When people look at Chad and say "Hey, that dude looks like Will Ferrell!" I instead look at Will Ferrell and say "hey, that chap looks just like Chad Smith!" The fuel of RHCP.
one of my favorite drummers! he doesn't play much but anything he plays is 100% from his heart.i think this is what really matters in music,to feel and to love everything you play, that's the only way....
Watching these videos of Chad is unreal, I pretty much am strictly a guitarist but seeing stuff like this blows me away. I knew Chad was good but wow. Anthony Kiedis is one lucky MFer to play with three hugely talented guys.
what an utter badass. he's sooo deep in the pocket, but still has the ability and fearlessness to go balls-out with some of those fills in front of a crowd AND TO A CLICK! and damn, he gives his snare drum a workout! for my money he's the hardest hitter on the scene, but he doesn't TRY to smash. it just comes naturally to him, and he doesn't try to play like someone he's not. mad props. and PS to the previous post, he DOES have an amazing right foot.
The fill he does at 2:57- 3:00 is so freaking cool. Simple stuff, but when you combine the fast bass drum, the tone of the toms, his attack, and of course the stick twirl (!) it's just awesome. And holy crap does he pound that snare. I like how immediately after the song, he starts re-tuning it.
Fan for well over 20 years now!, and I have to say that Chad (no disrespect to Irons) took their beats to another level!...Will Ferrell's brother rules!!......
I watch this video as part of my wake up ritual along with facebook, email and breakfast. and I don't even like RHCP! I feel I can relate to his playing style so much. So inspirational.
@DrummingAddict88 my guess would be since it is at so much of an angle, you can get more response and a more full sound when it can fluctuate more. Hitting it at the bottom would cut the sound off very quick. You can hear the difference when he plays it at the bottom or at the side.
@ZeeDeveel19 a ghost note is a note played after the main note(s) are hit.... watch his foot when he uses the bass pedal and you will see that he uses a softer kick after he making the main note that you can hear....if you listen closely you will hear the ghost note
Here we go, I'm pretty sure this is the start of a downward spiral into an immense phase of worshiping this guy. And I'm totally stoaked. His playing oozes steez.
wow yeah, its really like a cannon, and i love those kind of blasts on his snare before parts of the song, especially the part before the interlude, after the solo :D:D i love him.
Neil Peart has also made some crazy rythms, maybe even more complicated and technically difficult than some of Chad's beats. Buddy Rich has also made some increadible stuff.
Love the way the beat gets dropped behind then picked back up intact...downbeat shifting to the AND (as in ONE and two and THREE and four...three AND etc blah blah...you get it)
man, Chad Smith is fucking class! he always seems to get overlooked when you consider the lives of Kiedis, Frusciante & Flea but fuck this guy can drum!
I remember watching these as a teenager. Totally obsessed. Seeing them for the third time in Minneapolis tonight. CANNOT WAIT!!
He's gotta be the most underrated drummer ever. He's SO good. His style is so spaztic but he plays so clean, it's amazing. This is by far my favorite song to drum to.
There is a man who loves drumming.
I love how hard he hits the cymbals and gets so much power out of them but at the same time the sticks are literally so fluid in his hands wtf is this sorcery
This is without a doubt one of my favourite drum pieces💯👌🏼
the best drummer of all time!
Chad seems to ALWAYS lay the perfect groove to every tune. He's always improving as well, and seems like the coolest mutha. RHCP's landed their perfect drummer
Chad Smith has soo much passion and energy. I've never seen any other drummer play lik him. He is truly amazing!!!!
I never get tired watching this.
Chad is so far the first and only drummer I heard/seen who plays ghost notes on the bass drum. So sick.
It’s an accident. It’s just hard to accent 16th notes at the same velocity as downbeats. Ghost notes on the bass drum don’t sound good
@@jd0879 I beg to differ lol
@@jd0879 The bass hits at 2:48 are not accidents. And ghost notes on a bass drum can be very dynamic.
@@jd0879no it isn't, he ghost on bass drum too
he's awesome. such groove. we would all love to play just like him even if it's just for a day. u must know he did start drumming at age 7 so he's got a good 40-45 years under his belt. i think chad's like in his low to mid 50s now.
Finese, power, and dynamic improv groove,,,unreal!
This guy is my GOD!!!! I freaking love him !!!!
When people look at Chad and say "Hey, that dude looks like Will Ferrell!" I instead look at Will Ferrell and say "hey, that chap looks just like Chad Smith!" The fuel of RHCP.
one of my favorite drummers! he doesn't play much but anything he plays is 100% from his heart.i think this is what really matters in music,to feel and to love everything you play, that's the only way....
the lick he does from 2:57 to 2:59 is so freakin sweet. Simple, but complicated, and PERFECT.
nobody has more style playing drums like him NOBODY
My biggest influence on drums
he is incredible and people don't talk about him much. he tones it down a bit on their albums i believe.
"Chad Smith" style is always amazing
Watching these videos of Chad is unreal, I pretty much am strictly a guitarist but seeing stuff like this blows me away. I knew Chad was good but wow. Anthony Kiedis is one lucky MFer to play with three hugely talented guys.

love the grooves and the fills are amazing
Man. Everytime someone wants to define "feel" for a beginner drummer, they just need to show this.
the RHCP music is all about using and showing energy.
Lol this comment was written like 3 years after this album release holy shit. But yeah that fill is awesome. I gotta try it
he is ridiculously tight on the beat, he's frighteningly talented
Pure passion and talent.
the drums were well put together on this song... they r amazing
i love how he just yells and then continues tearing sh1t up...
awesome, i love how he just kills the drums, dont matter if its out of time or if the notes arnt placed perfectly, he kills it. Chad ROCKS!
Fan for well over 20 years now!, and I have to say that Chad (no disrespect to Irons) took their beats to another level!...Will Ferrell's brother rules!!......
Excellent presentation and best groove! Great man!!!
so good one of my top 5 favorite drummers, thanks for the video
Love him, love all from RHCP.They make my life better.
Chad is so deep in the pocket he can't climb out
hes so deep he's covered in lint
Absolute beast best drummer alive
Chad Smith is my favorite
Chad is so awesome, and just the nicest person you could meet!
I watch this video as part of my wake up ritual along with facebook, email and breakfast. and I don't even like RHCP!
I feel I can relate to his playing style so much. So inspirational.
man that guy can groove. he gets what it's really about.
ha! right when the solo starts, he mouths "ah, clean it up johnny!" at 2:22
He is a beast.
he's got some of the best kick drum skill in the buisiness
no one realises quite how amazing he is untill theyve seen him up close ...wot a legend!!!
Chad is only one who plays ghostnotes on the bassdrum ;)
chad smith is awsome fuck all haters u say he cant drum .
he is so funky .
he gets what drumming is all about .
he is my fav drummer .
This is some good old fashioned GROOVE right here, none of this double bass and triggers nonsense!
Get it, Chad
@DrummingAddict88 my guess would be since it is at so much of an angle, you can get more response and a more full sound when it can fluctuate more. Hitting it at the bottom would cut the sound off very quick. You can hear the difference when he plays it at the bottom or at the side.
Fucking love this man. What an amazing groover.
this guy is fucking amazing
i love how perfectly he incorporates spinning the sticks into his playing...mwa!
F***ing good this guy!
2:21 HE SAID IT
Chad is the MAN!!!
Good Job. I didnt knew he was that nice (: really nice .. great feeling
Chad is a monster!!!
@MeeGeex3 It's also partly due to the force to which Chad applies the stick, to put it artistically.
no wonder they're the greatest band on the world...
@ZeeDeveel19 a ghost note is a note played after the main note(s) are hit.... watch his foot when he uses the bass pedal and you will see that he uses a softer kick after he making the main note that you can hear....if you listen closely you will hear the ghost note
I love his madness! :-D
Here we go, I'm pretty sure this is the start of a downward spiral into an immense phase of worshiping this guy. And I'm totally stoaked. His playing oozes steez.
its like a live drum class. its just him and the crowd and he teaches techniques and philosophies and also plays.
Nobody hits them as hard
ever since i watched this, i started to ghost note on the kick. groovin more than ever now.
I just got a cowbell. Now I jam to this song every day.
movement so beautiful
Boy choppin in the pocket. Killer
chad smithは、Drum の神だなまさしく
I can't get enough of that snare!
i just got my drum kit and i hope i can be as funky as chad smith on on drums .
Sabian must have paid lots of money to chad! He even plays the ride instead the cowbell at the chorus! Damn.......it sounds better with cowbell.
wow yeah, its really like a cannon, and i love those kind of blasts on his snare before parts of the song, especially the part before the interlude, after the solo :D:D i love him.
gotta love the chili peppers. they play their instruments well and LOUD
A dobolás szépsége.
Beauty of drumming.
Chad Smith could be anything you want, BUT the only thing that matters is the transmition of energy and happyness that he has when his playing.
I do like Chad's sound, and when he's with Flea the grooves they play really kick ass!!
Neil Peart has also made some crazy rythms, maybe even more complicated and technically difficult than some of Chad's beats. Buddy Rich has also made some increadible stuff.
Doing ghost notes on the kick drum? Damn, that's awesome.
@everlyredhot
wow funk, punk and hard rock are all so different and unique on drums...
Love the way the beat gets dropped behind then picked back up intact...downbeat shifting to the AND (as in ONE and two and THREE and four...three AND etc blah blah...you get it)
IF "READYMADE" WAS A DRINK, IT WOULD BE AN ENERGIZING!!!
Chad Smith is the fire star !
man, Chad Smith is fucking class! he always seems to get overlooked when you consider the lives of Kiedis, Frusciante & Flea but fuck this guy can drum!
The splash at 1:47 gives me life.
he really loves it!! that's why he's the best !
God , ARE YOU ? I think YESSS , The best drummer EVER
He's my idol. a genius!!! but nobody can play like chad!
I have this on dvd its good
Chad rocks the hell out of some ghost notes on the kick drum!!
es como un cover de su propia canción, es increíble
Pero mejorada al 100%
Yes, it is! They play in two different styles.
still here in 2020 for that sweet sweet snare
such a solid drummer
cause he loves it the way it is
and thats what keep him alive
Ghost notes on the kick. This man is just too good. So badass.
This is more unintentional than a really great technical skill. This is completely unwanted in a recording for example. But I love this guy anyway.
This is Incredible man..!
yes is the most difficult song on drums of RHCP
I love how he fight the skins of the drums^^
crazy drummer
Chad Smith is AWESOME...
