That ghostly sound! First he goes up! Goes up! Then he comes down! Goes up! Comes down again! Thanks for this. Been listening to Monder since Maria Schneider days.
Met Ben when he was just out of college, and he was a great and humble player even then. And thank you Ibanez for making a hollow-body in lefty! (However briefly...)
I have found that over time, and as I have grown older, I am really starting to get into the jazz scene. Don't get me wrong, hard rock and metal are my thing, but I am really open to all forms of music, like blues and bluegrass, but I never really thought of jazz as something I would ever like. And I found it in a strange way. One of my all time faves is Testement, and Alex Skolnick, and he has a three piece jazz band.
Ben's effects have stayed pretty consistent over the years. That Lexicon, Rat, volume pedal, Boss compression, delay, one or two other things. Last time I saw him play was two yeas ago, and he had those pedals on the floor.
Ladies and gents, I present quite literally the only 153 demo worth listening to, AM or AS. Zero professional videos for the AM153QA, which is an absolutely gorgeous instrument.
I've never owned an AS guitar but I have owned a very good AF guitar, also by Ibanez. I would say that it was easily as good a quality as one of the faded Gibsons. The neck was straight, played like a dream, and sounded very "woody". I wouldn't get an Epiphone Sheraton if, for another $200, you could get the AS153. I would have purchased the AS153 for myself if I would not have found such a good used price on the LP I have now. FYI, I haven't played the Sheraton 50th anniversary at all.
1:35 ~1:55 "It's been you know 27 years ~ take a few months and it's still my main guitar when you offered to send me a guitar. You know see what I thought ~" I don't know well what Mr. Ben means. I understand only that he had been using his AS50 for 27 years.

He's been using the AS-50 for 27 years more or less a few months. Ibanez offered to send him a guitar but Ben saw no reason to switch guitars. However, he was very impressed with the AS153 that Ibanez sent him. Let me know if that's clear.
Man!.. I've owned and played so many different kinds of Ibanez guitars, including the Artstar, but I eventually had to go for an RG because of 7-strings. Probably the best one I had was a AH-10. A very stripped-down guitar designed to Allan Holdsworth's specs. Wish I still had it.
Great Video. Thanks. Could you tell me anything about the Ibanez AF80-VS Semi Hollow Body ArtStar Sunburst Electric Guitar? Also what kind of tuners and pick ups are on it?
Can somebody write what kind of effects is he using? I remember when I saw him with Maria Schneider he was using among others Lexicon LXP-1 reverb, RAT...
Love the tone of the guitar playing at the start of the video. What strings do you play on, on the Ibanez AS153? What volume / tone knob setting do you keeo on your guitar and amp? Also do you use any compressor / clean boost?
how can you tell ? his guitar is on super dark tone . It is very hard to tell the quality of the guitar the way he has the sound settings set up.with a super reverb...etc
God I HATE those headstocks. Everytime I think that they're can't possibly be an uglier headstock than Epiphones, then I'm reminded of these. I had a couple "lawsuit" 70s/early 80s Japanese ES335 copies with them, I remember a Greco, but there was another one too. Eastman uses it too which is a shame because there rest of the guitars are phenomenal for the price. $1200-1500 for semihollow with Duncan pickups and actual lacquer finishes is insane. But God, those headstocks though. I don't know why Ibanez don't use the shape from the 70s like on his original model, I actually like them more than Gibson's open-books.
My buddy records him and says that he's an absolute animal. Amazing composer and still practices 12 hours a day. Respect
This guy is phenomenal.
I really like that "warm, but not muddy" sound.
Check out Jonathan Kreisberg!
@@tytrdev Kreisberg is amazing!

I have the 2012 Ibanez AFJ85 and got the Ibanez AS93 a few months ago. Both lefty's. Great guitars for the price.

This a great vid of Ben playing and talking about his Ibanez.
What a beautiful player!
Nice Jazz tones out of that guitar, Ben. Thanks for the demo!
Everything he says about the Guitar is evident in the Video..
another very Creative Jazz Guitarist...
Hey, Ibanez! When will you make a Ben Monder signature?
Ben's effects have stayed pretty consistent over the years. That Lexicon, Rat, volume pedal, Boss compression, delay, one or two other things. Last time I saw him play was two yeas ago, and he had those pedals on the floor.
I have an AS-50, love it.
And an AFS-75, love that one too.
Play on...

Sounds great!
Monder is on another level.
Man, amazing!!!
It's over 9000...
His way to blend in with other musicians and his ability to be a subtle yet extremely personal sideman is incredible.

Ok, that became clear. Thank you for helping me!

Ibanez has such great hollow bodies. I'd love to try the the 7 string hollow.
Still waiting for Ben Monder signature model😊🙈
How does it compare with the Gibson ES339/335 or a cheaper one like Epiphone Sheraton 50th Anniversary(the one with Gibson pickups) ?
Can somebody write what kind of effects is he using? I remember when I saw him with Maria Schneider he was using among others Lexicon LXP-1 reverb, RAT...
What's the tune at the start?
+Ester Samuels You mean the one he plays in solo with the new Artstar 153? It's called "Embraceable You"...
what kind of effects uses at 03:06?
I’d guess volume pedal + overdrive + delay + loads of reverb, perhaps not in this order. Maybe a Freeze pedal as well
Am also curious tho
Ben Mon(st)er
or is it, Mind Bender?
its ben minder
Whats up Craig? Yeah for real, Ben always sounds amazing and is the sweetest guy!
Men Bonder
Does anyone know what recording this is and where I can get it?
Does anybody know how he's getting that sound at 3:04-3:38?
(maybe a reverse delay, and weird distortion?)
I have a butterscotch Ibanez as80 from 2002.
Where is this guitar made
China
You said It.

I bought this guitar and I still don't sound as good as Ben.. Disappointed....
good guitar tho?

Hahahaha
Great
That tune he plays at 1:00... i can't remember its name for the life of me. Anyone ?
Embraceable You
"Embraceable You"
monder is a monster
That is not an off the shelf 153.. it was cherry picked.

they are fragile the model more expensive is rinforced with a maple strip
@Reinhold Binder I think that as ugly as these are, the hands down winner of ugliest headstock has to go to the Parker Fly
Is this guitar made in China?
China and Indonesia.
China until mid 2019, then Indonesia
@@bmaiani Next will be Botswana.
I bet hollow bodies sound the same as solid guitars.
