I am a bassist who is obsessed with Ben’s work and exhaustive work with harmonies. This is his best interview by far regarding his process. Thank you.
@@chrishicks3877 Thanks so much Chris. You'll be pleased to know that we have another interview with Ben coming up soon. Also in October we are having a Deep Dive with Ben where Modern Guitar Harmony Patreon members can ask Ben anything they like as long as it's music related. The last Deep Dive with Ben is available to view on the MGH Patreon page too.
Mick would come up with new material and hand it to me. I'd look at it and say "It's going to take me a long time until I can show you what I can do with this." and he'd say "Just make sure Ben gets it." He considered Ben Monder the rightful heir to his conceptual world.
Interesting to see that Ben focused on three part voicings. Having transcribed much of his playing I have found that the majority of the time he is indeed playing three note voicings, dyads or just single notes.
I’ve listened to his HYDRA album many, many times. Such fantastically sublime music. Thank you for sharing this outstanding interview/dialogue. 🙏🏻😎👊🏻🎼
No worries. HYDRA is a great album alright. Soundscapes for days!!
Also the Bad Plus’s last record is great too
This is fact!! 😀
Incredible those new compositions....... I'm so looking foward to listen to this album. I'm sure it will be Ben's best project. It feels like his writing is only getting deeper and better. LovU Ben!
And a 23 minute tune as well. Breaking new ground in every way 😀
Thanks for the interview. It doesn’t have to sound that good to get the idea but if I can give an advice it would be to get rid of the noise gate, it really messes with the sustain of the guitar and it even eats notes. Keep on the good work I’m subscribing right away of course
@@iwokeupthismorning2 Thank you. Yes, we will try to get a better sound in the future. Don't forget that Ben is bringing out a new album out next week and we'll have another interview with him. Also there'll be a Deep Dive where those on the Modern Guitar Harmony Patreon page can ask Ben via a Zoom call any question they like.
You’re doing the lords work 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you. We plan to keep doing it 😁✌️🎸🎶☀️
Super useful. Pls check audio first.
Hello. I thought that your comment was strange as I had listened to segments from this interview before your comment and all was fine. I'm just here again and the sound is very low. Strange!!! And thanks for the heads up. 👍
I just went out of UA-cam and back in and it works fine now. Very strange??
Very low sound quality here also….
@@Andreorsel Ok, strange, all has been good here since......
@@ModernGuitarHarmony, your audio is good but Ben‘s is bad….
Hello , does any one know where in Vol 3 the cycle that Ben plays at 17:00 is located, he seems to say 3part spread to 4 part 4ths but then he says the chord is CBDE but that doesn't sound like what he is playing, Thanks
Hi Greg. I may have transcribed that section. I know that I did something around the 16:30 mark. I'll check in the morning 👍
Hi Greg. I have the section from 16:23. Clusters to three part 4ths. I'll see if I can work out the section at 17:00 next week 👍
Greg, try DEC, CFB, BGA, CFG
Thank you !
