I was wondering about this! Thanks for taking the time! However, a major point that was missed is if you don't prime AFTER you texture is how the finish paint will look. Hard to tell on a small area with white paint, but on a large wall using a darker paint or even a light gray you'll get unevenness in the paint because the texture will suck up the paint like a sponge if not primed, because the primer acts like a sealer.
I am a contractor (not an expert painter by any stretch) and have often done the before and after and hate doing the before cause it takes more time. IMHO The minimum is priming after if not doing the before for the reason I stated above. The priming before does have the benefit, as someone else said in the comments, is that you see your mistakes and can fix them before moving on.

Good video, my drywall contractor back home would always primer before and after. Sometimes he would find additional touch up before texturing. But now doing a project on my own was contemplating just doing after.

This is amazing! My husband and I were debating this and you answered the question. We were both right! It would have been interesting to use a dark paint as you would be able to see more of the paint/texture coming off the wall. Thanks again.

Issue is whether the texture dries differently on drywall mud of the joints verse the paper on new rock. Also if your joining new rock to an existing texture, will the area where the old and new blend, dry differently causing the orange peel to appear slimmer? With orange peel, it might not matter much, as most of us are not going to match perfectly our texture to someone else’s.

Good video. Good test. I didn’t understand why you chose (after the testing) to primer before and after if prime after is the same results.

I just did a real-life comparison. Textured half a wall in my garage, then primed it. Primed the other half and getting ready to prime it once it dries. My tape/mud joints are still visible. I don't claim to be a pro, i've only taped/mud a couple of times in my life. But i sanded and tried to knock down all the rough edges. Hoping it's hidden a little better after it all dries.
