I just planted a vine in soil today. I started to prop it in water, but it’s a young branch and I was afraid it would dry out, so I switched to dirt and put it in a plastic bag for humidity. That’s a stunning plant you have!
That's a great tip to use a skewer to check soil moisture. Works for baking...why not plants too! Also would be interested to see an update on the success of the propagations you potted up in this video.
Its beautiful! I bought a small Mona Lisa couple months ago so I’m excited for some flowers in the future. Just bought a large variegated this week at Lowes
One of my favorite plants, I believe a bit underrated. Unfortunately I lost over the summer due to a horrible pest Infestation, would love another one. I found a gracilis this weekend at Lowe's.☺️
Man, that is a GORGEOUS plant. Thanks for showing how you potted the cuttings! I was wondering how you would arrange it, either standing up or draping. I totally think your soil props will work!
Thanks so much 4 showing your lipstick plant I have one also but haven't had success in propagating. Your video has convinced me to try again. Thank you. I hope you do another video about the results.
Loved this video and your information. I purchased a mature Mona Lisa in June of this year. She’s growing like a beast! It makes me a little nervous but she should slow down when Fall arrives. I am grateful that she’s thriving and hopefully I won’t have to repot her too soon. I have concerns regarding how she’ll respond. I’m sure she will let me know when it’s time. 😊. Take care and stay safe!! 👌🌿🥰💚
Aeschynanthus are tying for top position for my favourite plant type. I have Mona Lisa, Longicaulis Pink Polka, Japhrolepsis, Rasta and Pulcher Variegata. I also have plugs for Big Apple, Speciosus and Black Pagoda coming from the nursery in Spring. I must admit that the Mona Lisa is the only one that has given me some yellowing lower leaves. But they all thrive and the Mona Lisa and Rasta have flowered vastly and continually from bringing them home. The Longicaulis and Pink Polka took about 6 months to flower, but flowered well. The Longicaulis put out one set of flowers, the Pink Polka has exploded and has continued flowering for the last 2 months, so I'm interested to see if this will be an all year bloomer like the Mona Lisa and Rasta 🤔
So glad you made a video on this one, I had exactly the same issues with leaves going wrinkly and stems dying back on the first plant I got, especially after flowering. Luckily, I could propagate some pieces before the mother plant died completely, and they seem to do much better. My hunch is that the combination of the roots establishing to a certain soil from the start and using a terracotta pot instead of plastic helps not to make them as finnicky about the watering, but I'm not familiar enough with the lipstick plant yet so if you have any experience on how they behave after a repotting I'd be curious to hear!
The only thing I really do when I bring new plants home is put it in a new mix of soil. I find a lot of store bought plants have their soil just soaked and don't have a lot of amendments like perlite added for drainage. Sometimes the plants respond well and sometimes not....so be careful. lol
The presentation is very helpful. Have you thought of follow up presentation? Am very curious if the stem cuttings you’ve planted along with water propagated stems, have rooted. ❤️💕🎈
Yes, they rooted. I think I may have lost one stem. I no longer have the plant....I gave it to my mother, so I'll have to check with her on how it is doing.
Thank you for this great informations. I do have one Lipstickplant, but it have very small leaves. Maybe its some other species? I saved her from dying. I do have her since two years, and it was only 1 short String. Today I`ve shortened it, beause it was to long. Then Iput them in a Glas of Water, as you showed in the Video. Maybe you could tell me how long it takes for a Lipstickplant to bloom? Thank you so much for shareing😉
There are a few different varieties of lipstick plant for sure. They need bright light or close to a grow light in order to get to the flowering stage. Thanks for watching Eli
can i remove some leaves from the vine and pin that part to the soil in order for it to grow roots there? i bought just a cutting of aeschynanthus, and i wonder how to make it fuller
About a week after moving into soil, most of the leaves fell off and they were healthy leaves. The only thing I could think of is not enough sun or I didn't establish enough roots. Has this happened to you and any ideas why?
Purchased one in 8” pot, which is places in a bright room with a good amount of sum (shielded) and it’s been growing beautifully. Except it didn’t give any flowers. What up with that?
I don't think so, but what I've done is if you have a bare stem then cut it back at the closest leaf node and it will start a new branch from that node. You can then take that cut portion and propagate in water if you want.
I had my plant hanged under a tree is that the reason why it is not flowering. It had blooms a while ago and am not sure if it's a plant that blooms all throughout
It may not be getting enough light....is this a temporary spot for it? You could try a brighter spot if you have one, but remember to slowly introduce it into higher light.
I don't have a video, but I actually gave the cuttings away to a family member a while back. I am happy to report that the cuttings are all doing well!
Hello! They are still doing well, but haven't noticed any new growth yet. I will make an update video with some of my plants that I have featured recently.
My lipstick plant was doing fantastic until I brought it home from work and my cats decided to eat on it. It started turning from dark green to a light green and wrinkling. I also hung it up to keep the cats away from it. I’m so sad about it. I don’t know what to do!
My lipstick plant, not a Mona Lisa I don't think, is in a really ugly stage, with lots of gangly shoots going straight up. It's taking all of my willpower to not snip them off, just because I don't like how it looks, but I know soon enough they will be heavy enough to start trailing down and not up!!!!
@@EverythingPlants I cut other ones off a few months ago, which I think prompted all this new growth. I don't think it looks too bad now, it just doesn't instantly trail down when the growth is new so I have to be patient. I actually think it's thriving, constantly has new growth and gets good lighting. I'm going to leave it be and see what happens.
Gorgeous and totally underrated plant. Mine flowers constantly and leaves are so glossy 👍🏼😍🌿
Hey Sally. Underrated plant....I 100% agree. They have such gorgeous leaves
When you said it's an "absolutely stunning" plant, i literally nod my head to agree. 😄
Thanks!!!

Lipstick plants are really popular among the Japanese and korean lifestyle influencers. Their easy-to-care and elegant foliage completely charms mr
I love them
I am pleased with your tutorial. I currently have two and I don’t get much light so I know mow that it would behoove me to get a grow light.
Ya, won't stop growing or flowering under those grow lights. Thanks for watching Evelyn

Oh wow! Congrats on those two plants!

Lovely plant.. Got all the care of this plant by your detailed explanation. Thanku

I really enjoy your propagation videos! What a gorgeous plant. Can’t wait for the update on the soil propagation of those additional ones.
Thanks! I just gave the propagations a good watering this morning and they are all still looking good.
What a great, succinct video. I have been looking for something like this as I have not been sure how to take care of this plant...
Glad it was helpful! You need to get one of these plants for sure!

They are still doing okay...I have really neglected the propagated cuttings, so I need to pay more attention to them and give water haha
Wow what a beautiful plant. Definitely going on my wishlist
Thanks and I hope you find one!
Very informative thank you. Fingers crossed for the propogation.

Hey Peggy. I haven't had to repot mine yet either and it still continues to grow as well.
Has yours produced any flowers yet?
Hi I just found a black leaved jewel orchid having midvein like that dark green diffenbachia. Added this jewel orchid io my wishlist.😊
Awesome and I hope you find it.
Very informational. I propped some of mine tonight.

I’ve been trying to decide what plant to try next. I think I found a winner. Great tips thanks for sharing. 🌿💦

I would let it dry. So give it good light and if you need to dry it out faster, then place a fan near it

What happens to the mother plant at the place that you take your cuttings? Will it sprout new growth?
Yes it does regrow from the closest node to where you made the cut. Very similar to a hoya or vining plant (like pothos)
Lovely amazing thank you so much
Thanks Jegathajsr
How large should mine be before I try propagating? I don’t want to trim too much off of mine! She’s maybe got three or four stems right now.
Let it grow and see what happens. When you prune it does or should branch out.
Great video!!!
Glad you liked it!
What temperature is it in the basement? Do u ad any heat under the plants when u propagate?
Right now our house is around 20-21 degrees. I have never used any heat pats for my propagations.

Hello Cora! Those little white stones and perlite and I use that as a soil amendment to help with soil drainage and air flow.

Did the soil cuttings end up rooting?
Yes. I think like one or two didn't survive. I recently gave this plant to my mother and it is doing well!

Sorry...I'm not too sure what you mean. The misting bottle?
Just wounding how is this plant is doing? Thinking of getting one are you still happy with it?
I absolutely love it. It is starting new blooms again!

What was the mist sprayer that used?
The bottle says it is a 1 litre garden pump and spray.
