    10 years ago we had power commander usb to tune with. It was fun then with a lot less work. Now you have to do everything yourself and blend mapping Fun stuff. I’d take a weekend to come to Texas and build stuff with ya
    And see what power my old 06 450 is making as I don’t have a dyno anymore

    Speaking of cam timing, the Kawasaki KLX 300 cams are set screwy. If you swap the intake and exhaust cam timing you can gain 4-5 hp

    id like to see you tune on a pitbike. from stock to bolt ons, and tuning them in. would be a very neat video.

    When verifying cam timing you mentioned you verified topdead center then showed the cam gear location. I was curious, have you ever ran into a cam gear that had sliped time therefore cam location marks could be correct but cam degree could be out? If so do you degree in the cams to verify or is there no need as the possibilities are inconceivable? I was just curious as I ran into this on an older ltr 450 that had pressed on cam gears and wondered if that ever plagued you in the shop? And if there is something you commend I could do to be better at maybe catching that or recognizing it sooner so I can become better As always thanks for the content!!

      Yes on engines with pressed gears - but this engine has 1 piece gear and cam.

    Interesting Derek, I have had both your 270 kit and the 290 from Thumper/Built on my 18 xcf. For me riding off-road I found the 270 didn’t give the roll on torque feel that I wanted and so moved to the 290 which provided me with what I was looking for. Both kits were used with the stock ecu tuned with around 10% more fuel everywhere and then I tried a vortex where I could manually adjust the fuel trim on the trail. It’s very surprising that a std tuned 250 is so close on the Dyno because my on seat feel from 250-270-290 was a substantial gain each time. The 290 makes the 250 feel like a highly strung 125

      goes to show just how oddball humans are…
      If you opened the throttle more ud gave gotten more on the 250 and 270. we did a full sweep of partial throttle power runs. after about 40 percent there wasnt any gain to the 290

    • @cdt262hi
      @cdt262hi 8 місяців тому

      You should show those part throttle runs so people can see and understand the difference. Very few people can or do open the throttle 100% corner to corner because of terrain and conditions unlike a dyno run so it's not showing the full picture.@@HPRaceDevelopment

    • @HPRaceDevelopment
      @HPRaceDevelopment  8 місяців тому

      It takes a really long video to do that.
      But maybe some day. This video was in reality 8 hours of testing and tuning time... The thing that I personally don't understand and dislike - is if partial throttles are what peopel shoot for - and "feel" is faster - just open the throttle more...That's literally the purpose of the throttle - to modulate power.@@cdt262hi

    When filming...just remember..some people are very sensitive to abusing the gearbox. If a customer sees his bike on the run and you are kicking it in gears like that..up and down..I know..the gearbox will take it..but perhaps the customer will not..!! Use the clutch..Just some friendly advise.. been in the business for 50 years (-:

      @@HPRaceDevelopment fouling plugs seem to be very common on the 21-23 yz250f, since mine was new it has smoked when cold and smells like fuel. It clears up as soon as it comes up to temp and never happens again. It doesn’t lose oil, or coolant and people I ride with have the same issue. Holy shit that stock ecu map is scary. The hell is that dip doing there. Smh. Unacceptable and the fact people can’t feel stuff like that drives me insane. Peak power is super important as well as ride-ability really the only way to get that is to blend track or trail time with dyno time and get stuff right. If I have to choose one over the other I’m going to the dyno. Idk why people do not understand this and want to tune fuel tuners themselves without collecting data.

    • @HPRaceDevelopment

      @@HPRaceDevelopment true things definitely could have been worse, I’ve got an efi bike like that at the moment. I’m picky I suppose because I’ve been tuning carbs most my life. Obviously efi is a different book entirely but conceptually the same as far as making peak power with rideability. Nothin worse than a tune that only works at wot. Drives me nuts. I have a kx250f right now that’s like that that needs a custom tune because of what’s been done to the engine. The current off the shelf tune from a company who will remain unnamed is a WOt only tune. I appreciate the efi guys like you who work at making both sides of the spectrum work so a bike runs right as things get a bit more expensive to tune with efi than a 4 dollar piece of brass 😂😂😂👊🏻👊🏻🤙🏻 efi is out of my range at the moment.
