- Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today I am recreating the Sombold So 344. A World War 2 era plane with a detachable nose cone full of 400kgs of explosives. it was intended to launch this nose cone at a fleet of bomber planes taking out multiple with a single strike. It was a bomber bomber. it bombed bombers.

About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

"Don't worry, I can recover from this" as the planes nose instantaneously explodes into deadly shrapnel obliterating scrapman and the plane entirely
Hahahahahaha looollllllll!!!!! Hahahahaha😂😂😂😂
Good video idea! It was a fun one to watch.
Hahahaha I was literally about to comment that😂😂
More like
"Worry,I cant recover from this"
*this is fine*
Pilot, "I can land twice right?"
Tower, "do we tell him it's a glider?"
@RandanaGold when you land it ain’t got no fuel left.
Tower: no let him figure that out himself I think he’ll be fine
I really miss the multiplayer Trailmakers videos, especially Dethrone… because, y’know, it has destruction physics…
Same :')
My to
same
It can be interesting if they make large planes then have to use this to destroy them
I agree
Thanks scrapman for this amazing video. I would love to see something like this recreated in a multi-player Monday episode. Something like dogfights. 👍
Why did this get no likes scrapman :(
I love you pls notice me
"Place your bets now, Do you think this is aerody-" Entire nose gets obliterated instantly💀
Whenever you have a detachable piece of an aircraft, you should add trim with logic that automatically changes when the payload is released so that the plane can fly level both before and after the drop.
My thoughts exactly
If I didn't know what KSP was I would have thought you were a wizard
Never let them foresee your next move, turn your bomber bomber into a Mecha Phantom Beast while mid-air. 15:16
Love how Scrapman never tried turning off the thrusters in the plane to drop the bomb
War thunder taught me to reduce power to 30% lol.
Scrap man teaches us history just by building stuff. Keep up the great work man!
15:55 now i know why they didn't built this...
Story:
Fleet of bomber planes:are we ready for take of-wait what's that?
Pilot:ready to drop my nose!
You should also try to build the Bachem Ba 349 Natter, a rocket-powered interceptor that would attack bombers with a large volume of mini rockets from its nose.
Now this.... This is prime Multiplayer Monday's content. This plane vs cars. Except the car can shoot back.
The problem is that it would be very hard to hit the plane. The people on the ground would be sitting ducks
I really want to see you bring this kind of thing into one of the multiplayer battles. imagine their surprise when you shoot the front of your plane at them
Imagine they all get a historical failure and battle them 😂
yoooooooooo
Hey scrapman, for your next experimental vehicle I think you should look at the Fairey Rotodyne, it's a small airliner with a unpowered helicopter rotor on top, seems like a fun challenge.
YES PLS DO IT SCRAP MAN I'VE BEEN ASKING SINCE THE START OF THIS TYPE OF SERIES ALSO CHECK MUSTAD CHANNEL HE HAS AN EXPLANATION ABOUT IT
Mustard is how I found out about it, please scrapman haha
How does it fly
Yes rotodyne please i need this
do it scrapman
That was awesome ! Clearly one of your best videos in a little while !
You built a beautiful a well functioning craft, there was a try hard montage, the subject was unique, well done !
Really good one !
lol your birds animation was so much better than the entire movie "birdemic shock and terror" part one and two combined
The Convair B-58 hustler would be fun to see be made
"Don't worry, I can recover from this" Famous last words
Beat me to it by a year
You should do a multiplayer Monday where you all try to shoot each other out of the sky with your wacky historical planes. That probably wouldn't be very balanced, but would be very fun.
6:26 nope!🤣
P.S I love all your videos, to be honest since 2020 I've watched about 60% of all your videos, love 'em all, and the crew🤞🏽
For the next Trailmakers Tuesday, can you build the Rutan Boomerang?
ohhh
that thing looks ridiculous
@@crazybird199 exactly
OMG I laughed so hard when you tested this and at the point of "Do you think this thing is aerodynamic" *BOOM* that was amazing thanks!
You could make a Multiplayer Monday Challenge about this!
Everybody gets a prebuild rocket and need to hit one or more targets, the person with the best hits wins!
I love this idea!
The fist thought that may occur to one's mind when a flock of birds is gliding over one's head, is, ''I hope one doesn't get poop on one's head.''
I really like the look of this creation! Its actually cool looking
even know this video is old 16:00 is gold
“Place your bets now, do you think this thing is aerody..” *explodes* 😂😂😂
I am loving these videos where you make weird planes from the past
You need a "sled" to move the weight from the back to the front as soon as the bomb is released. If the weight starts in the back, when it slams forward it should bring you back into balance. Have you uploaded this design? I would like to 'play' with it. :)

Famous Last Words
I feel like by the time you're saying "don't worry, i can recover from this" you have just stated some very famous last words
Im 2 years watching your videos and they are getting better and better.
"Don't worry, I can recover from this"
**violently explodes**
"I kinda wish I could do better...
I want to do better.
I'm gonna do better"
Wise words from ScrapMan
I would assume that it would decrease thrust after the bomb is released in order to maintain control.
Translating that to Trailmakers…
Replace some internal blocks and weights with mini thrusters and use those minis after dropping the bomb to keep control of the plane.
That fail montage makes this one of the funniest history vehicles videos, oh also, that gives me an idea, what if the plane released a cluster bombs instead of the 1
“Place your bets now! Do you think it’s aerodyn- **Plane explodes into deadly shrapnel**
Scrapman:dont worry i can recover from this
Also Scrapman"explodes."
For the transition between bomb an plane, you can use logic gates. They have a smooth surface. If you use sensors on the bomb side of the transition, you can first use them to detect when far enough from the plane, and send a signal to an OR gate, and that OR gate to another OR gate, but the second OR gate is set to toggle. Then lead both or gates to an XOR gate with a delay of half a second, that activates the dynamite. When the first OR gate is activated, the fins should all be twisted a few degrees to make the bomb spin. The first OR gate should also make the sensors turn outwards, so they are facing away from all of the sensors' average position (so looking away from each other). While writing this, I realized, it will not work because of how sensors work, and a functional solution can be made much simpler. Also, this would take up no extra space except for the connection points for the fins (although there is a possible, ugly, but flush solution involving hinges and pipes).
Dude the bullseye was dope
Would love to see you recreate this plane with the new updated wings
If I show this to my grandpa he’s defenetly gonna get ptsd honestly
And that is why i recommended it to scrapman
"Dont worry i can recover from this" famous last words
In the next multiplayer Monday please to castle defense in scrap mechanic, like you make your own vehicle that has spud guns and you try to destroy the enemies castle or you must take down like a flag or something and the Castle defenders must have cannon like defense to destroy the enemies vehicle
Hope this gets noticed, i really like your content ♥️♥️♥️
Omg I just saw the comment about this exact thing on your previous vid
Scrapman really does read comments
This increases my respect for u even more
Loving the graphic overlays on top of the gameplay
You should do a multiplayer game with a his where you have to hit someone driving a car or plane I think that would be fun to see. You could ad a camera to help aim so it would be easier if you do it with friends
6:21 bro didn’t even get a chance to finish lol
Fanous last words, "Don't worry, I can recover from this."
To be fair even the original design wasn't meant to be as accurate as Scrap was trying to be. It was meant to fire the missile into a cluster of enemies, each of which proportionally was probably close to the size of the target he was using, and detonate when it got close to one of them no doubt trying to start a chain reaction of all the payloads going off
"I have this stubby little nose cone and this is gonna insert here "
Me : Mommy i feel weird.
who's here before the description gets changed from the coleoptere to the Sombold So 344
''dont worry, i can recover from this''
*scrapman's last words*
@scrapman: Video Idea. Battleships: Build a fleet of battleships, cruisers, subs, etc. Use ones from workshop if necessary. You all build bombers. All 3 of you take off at the same time on bombing sorties from the carrier. Bombs have to be actually dropped from the craft. In order to "reload" you have to fly back to the aircraft carrier. (Then you reset). Battleships are worth 5 pts, cruisers 3, destroyers 2, etc. Timed event. Winner is most points at end. Alternatively, 1 person is bombing while other 2 man antiaircraft guns from the ships. See how long it takes to take them all out. Use dynamite in the bombs as well as on the ships so they are more likely to sink after a hit. (Maybe, like the game battleships, there are 2 "caches" of dynamite on a destroyer, 3 on cruiser, etc (like the peg holes)
Scrapman: "Let's say I ran out of fuel..."
Scrapman: "I think I'm too high..."
Also Scrapman: Does absolutely nothing about it.
Scrapman again: Flares at 202 mph and slams it down at 186.
Scrapman subsequently: "Why!? No waii!?" as he slides off the end of the short runway, still at 76 mph.
Finally, Scrapman: Engages thrusters somehow for a go-around in an out-of-fuel glider.

Scrapman, here some ( challenge ) suggestion for Recreating Real Life Machines In Video Games series
1. C-1 Gyroid Cyclogyro
2 . Junker J.1000
3. Yakovlev VVP-6
4. The Flying-V
5. Arup S-2
16:30 BIG FOKUS
Black snoop dog: narcotic consumer
white snoop dog: intelligent mechanic
You can use an altitude sensor (or any sensor to activate the thruster constantly) with an output of 0.1 or less, turning the thruster on and skipping the charge up time but not actually giving any thrust until you want it to. Basically circumventing the whole thrust delay
You should do a multiplayer Monday video were everyone has to make a historical vehicle failure
I have a suggestion for a vehicle in Instruments of Destruction: Can you try making a vehicle that looks like Anomalocaris. Anomalocaris was an animal that lived in that Cambrian Explosion 500 million years ago. It would use its 2 tenticle like opendages on the front of its face that would curle up and down. When the 2 tenticles grab Pisces of a building, it will drag it twords its mouth on its stomach. Also just for a bonus: can you try making the fins move up and down?
I may be a few years late but to slow down when you land, don't use thrust and just pull up, since your not using thrust you won't lift up and the extra wind resistance helps slow down
Another solution to the weight distribution issue might have been to add detachable weighs on the back end of the plane that would release with the bomb. The center of mass would then remain the same in both "forms".
Also, holy hell this thing would have been expensive to field. I mean, even if this thing worked as imagined without any flaws, it would have hardly been worth the investment even if it accomplished its task! And that's omitting the risk of accidentally bombing your own country if you missed. D:
**weights fall off and take out one of the planes**
*cool*
my guy has the best editor ever lol
Trailmakers multiplayer: that bird bomber thing vs a vehicle that the players is going to build that is at least the size of that target 13:40 The vehicles speed limit is 100 MPH and has no anti air guns just trying to survive as lang as possible, you can also add as many blocks as you want, there will be 2 bombers and 1 that is trying to survive using the vehicle.
Scrapman please notice this
I would really love to see this happen
Just imagine bird plane vs moving fortress
15:16, scrap man just casually transforming into a dragon mid flight
I feel like scrap man seriously needs to consider learning the phisics of bullte drroppe
15:58 "don't worry I can recover from this"
Hi Scrapman! Im not sure if you've already done this one, but i found a plane called the x-114, and it's a really cool seaplane. Maybe it could be the next creation?
11:03 *"what are you doing, stepbomb?"*
I know it would be a lot of tries but it would be cool to see this again but with the target floating in the air with gimbal jets and maybe explosives placed on it so it would mimic a fleat of jets so when it's hit and explodes it destroys more like it would hitting a jet making it explode and exploding the other jets.
still awesome video always love everything you post.
Should do a Multiplayer Monday with three aircraft and some ground targets. First to 10pts wins or as close to it as you can.
I built a copy of the so344 with basic proximity fuse it sucks too.
Rumors say that ScrapMan is still trying to hit that target. Noone knows for sure..
Imagine a plane just transformed into a dragon in the middle of an operation and turned back to a plain like nothing happened
You should do the "Christmas Bullet Plane" also known as the "Cantilever Aero Bullet" in Trailmakers. A one-seated American Biplane used in WW2 (i think)
...day 6.
im curious how many times how many times he’s said bombers or bombs 😂
when the bomber plane is sus
if i had to go war with scrapman , i'll just paint a huge target on the roof of my house and that will be the safest place
This... is actually based on another design. The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka. They actually look very similar, except that the Ohka's nose doesn't de-tatch, the plane just rams into the enemy ship.
So every Japanese plane lol.
Cool!!! Can you try to build a tortoise?
Scrapman: I can do this!
God: give scrapman a godly dragon to use this video.
Scrapman: What just happened this isn't part of the video!
Now we want to see a multiplayer bomb drop challange
Great video, nice plane.
you are the best scrap man
The BV-141 would be so cool to see done. It was an asymmetric recon plane.
Very nice bro
you should make a drone / floating target so you can use censors to do the proximity bomb idea
Now build an ornithopter as a french engineer actually tried to get one working.
You should make a challenge with mumbo and Khan were you build a plane similar to this and have detachable missiles and try to hit the ground/floating targets
Man, the past really is a different beast, ain't it.
Yeah, I think if they'd built that plane it would have burnt the pilot to a crisp (if the rocket ignited right away) or else the real plane would have had even worse trouble hitting the target than the ScrapMan version (if the rocket tumbled off to a safe distance from the plane before igniting). It makes so much more sense to (as they eventually did) put that kind of rocket-propelled bomb/proto-missile on the underside of the plane where it can just drop straight down for half a second before igniting and be pretty safe and on course. Putting it on the nose raises difficult questions about how to get it moving away from the plane.
Now we got a great montage of "ooo" "uuu" "OOO" haha
cool and amazing video keep up the good work
Nice shot comrade
You could be a expert aerial mechanic
Hey Scrapman, try building the F-82 Twin Mustang. It's a plane with 2 P-51 Mustang fuselages joined together
You should try building the Lockheed Martin Sea Shadow
or maybe the M80 Stilleto next!
15:59 scrap man’s famous last words
With the pitch, you could have made the fins stay in a certain position, then when the bomb detaches, just make it normal or in a different position.
Huh, I was thinking something similar, but shifting the weight blocks. I wonder which is more efficient. I don’t know enough about aerophysics to know.
Great video thank you scrap man!!!
